I think that'll be my next project once I finish my rebuild. Buy another, shabby GT4 and drop a 12 in it. YEE HAAA!

Thanks for your comments Charles. I will look forward to reading more when I get back from my vacation.

Ben thanks for digging up that article.

Sorry for not responding to this earlier but I have been on vacation.
I have the black v12-308 in atlanta. I am very familiar with all of the other conversions and have been contracted to re-engineer some parts on 2 of them(primarily the manufacturing of the transfer gear). At last count there were only 3 of us but I suspect a 4th was under construction.

the conversion is a HUGE task and should not be considered unless you have a good machine shop and lots of time and $$$. I only undertook the task because I happen to be an engineer and a master machinist.

also parts for the 330 motors are getting very hard to find--currently i am in limbo as my cylinder heads were stolen and I can not find a "good" set for replacements.

will follow up with more when I get back home.

Ps. the one in california has a daytona block only with 365 2 cam heads--it belongs to david goldsmith and was fearured in 85 nov r&t

Does this help?

Apparently there is a local Bay Area guy who has done this and I hear very recently made the SJ Mercury news (I think it would have been Mon 8/6/01) with an article about him and his projects, in case someone might have seen that, and/or can find that?

Thanks for the info. I would like to see those articles if Tommy, Mitch and Dave can find them. I have also seen in someone's profile a picture of a 308 that is claimed to be 12 cyl. and have over about 350 hp. I want to say the car was black and the owner was a mechanic or engineer. I have looked at so many discussions in the last month that I can't remember what problem he was helping solve.

I have the article backed up somewhere, I'll try and find it...
The guy who did the conversion has a set of plans that details the whole conversion process, such as engine to trany adapter and so forth, that he sells for X amount.....
If I remember right performance figures were comparable to a Testarossa.

Kind of a cool conversion if your into that type thing... but if it were me, I would find a 365BB or an early Testarossa to play with. The 365BB which is a little more raw than a later 512BBi, is a bad ass, get after it little car. And the prices are low on one, not to mention the numbers produced are low as well, I think this car will be a future big dollar car.....

The early Testarossa is not as refined nor as powerful as the later 512TR.
But it is still a great ride with a lot more top end than a 308, and the prices are low on one as well....

IMHO I think either of those options would produce a better overall performance per dollar rate than what it would cost to do the 308/12 conversion in terms of time, money, working out bugs, more Time,.. I'd rather be driving than making adapter plates and bending header tubes.....
I guess that just shows my age, cause 20 years ago I was stuffing rat motors into vegas, and Cleveland motors into pintos.. :)

Many years ago someone (I cannot remember who...I wanna say Norwood) installed a 365 engine into a GTS. It looked incredible. I actually saw the car when it was at Ferrari of Atlanta (FAF at the time) for a tune. There was also an article about the car in Road & Track some time ago. The owner even had the car designated as a "365 GTS". It sounded out of this world, but was told that it has repeated problems with cooling and electrical issues. I have some photographs of the car, I can dig them up and make my little brother scan them for me and get em on here, if you guys want? I'll try and do that.

Sometimes 308's advertised on ebay are listed as "12 cylinder". I've always assumed it was just a mistake or someone's inattention to the details when creating the ad. I've never seen a "true" 308 12 cylinder.

ANY 12 cyl 308 is someone else's modification. "308" means 3 liter (actually 2.9) 8 cyl. R&T or C&D ran a road test back in the 80's of a 308 with a Daytona 12 cyl. engine. I have a copy somewhere that I can dig up if you want a copy.

Hi all. I recently discovered this site and I think it's great. There is so much information to be found here, especially from the "regulars" who contribute almost daily. I don't have a 308 YET but I hope to soon. In the meantime my 84 alfa spyder will have to keep me entertained.

I have a question maybe some one can help with. I have seen occasional mention of 12 cylinder 308's. Does anybody know if these are some sort of special edition cars or are the engines from other models. Any info will be apprciated.
