Oops I meant the Yoko A008s!! Anyway, I still had the MR2 when I bought the Ferrari...was kinda cool having them parked side by side in the garage for awhile :). I sold the MR2 about a year after getting the Ferrari. Wanted to wait for the right buyer who would appreciate all the things I did on the MR2. Sold it in 1999 with 49,000 on the clock...that's only 6K miles a year folks. Looked just as good as the day I drove it off the lot...yes, I'm anal!

Sandra,
I bought the car used in 1996 for $12,500. I sold it four years later for $9000 and got the 308. I loved the MR2 but am very glad I made the move to the Ferrari. You had a big set of tires on your car. I had 205/50s and 225/50 rear. I bet the bigger tires really looked good. I trust you are glad you made the trade also.

Hi Fred,
Did you buy the car new in '91? The reason I ask is that being the first year of the new bodystyle MR2, I had to go to HRE in Vista, Ca so they could measure for proper offset to custom make me a set. They hadn't yet done any new MR2s and needed that info. I had the brochure on those wheels for over 5 years, swearing when I could afford a really cool sports car I'd put those wheels on it. I had the Yokohama 001s on it to begin with and I guess the Yoko guys actually had a photo of my car in their production office with the wheel/tire setup for some time. I had the Yoko/HRE poster car LOL! My tires sizes were 225/45 245/40 and yes, the rears rubbed the arches if I hit a dip.

Sandra,
Sounds like we have the same taste in cars. Before my 308 I had a 91 MR2 turbo with the same wheels you are talking about. They look great! When I was looking to buy an MR2 I looked at several but none of them were doing it for me. Then I looked at the one I ended up buying. When I saw it I knew I had to have it. The wheels totally sold me. I have been toying around with the idea of putting a set on my 308 since it did not come with the originals.

I am running 17" Gotti 2pc wheels with the Yokohama AVS Sports and must say they are some of the best handeling tires I've had. You can see the photo of my car with them on under my user profile. I also have a great connection for these and other Tires if interested?? Drop me a line if you need more info!

Randy,
If you give me your email address I'll be glad to send you a photo of the MR2 with the HREs.

Mitchel, how is the road noise and wearability on the 7000's. Also I assume these tires hug the road for good cornering (like taking on-ramps at 75 mph). Thanks, Jerry.

P.S. 225's up front and 245's in rear.

What sizes are your fitting to the stock 16" x 8" (7) wheels?

I hear the 255's will fit up front and you can go to 245's in the rear.

I have goodyear now - good but very noisy. thinking of going to Yoko AVS db's for quieter ride ( I have a gts)

Also -- if anyone is looking to change tires, I would be itneretested in your old ones if in good condition...

I've got Pirelli 7000s on my QV and they are really decent.

Sandra,

Would also like to see a pic of the 505s. Email them to me if you can at [email protected]

Thanks,
Dave

Sandra,

Bring on the pics of the HRE 505s. I'd like to get some good ideas before I replace my wheels.

I put Pirelli P7000s on mine and they are sweet. I had Bridgestone Potenzas and they sucked.

No, no, no! The only wheel to put on a 308 is an HRE 505!! They look exactly like the 288GTO stock wheels...gorgeous! I had those wheels on my MR2 turbo...what an aggressive look it added to that little car. I can email you a photo of the MR2 if you like.

Jerry,

Can't wait to see the pics. My wheels really need a "pick-me-up". I've heard a lot of good things about Gotti, but have to see for myself.

I have a black 1979 308 and I put Gotti 55's on mine which are a 2 piece wheel (three piece if you count the center caps). They are polished aluminum with about 20 small bolts around the perimeter holding the 2 main pieces together and they have gold in the center of the 5 "spokes". I really like the way they set my car off. I will try to E-mail a picture later. Jerry

I have Yokohamas on mine, but too new to try anything else. I am thinking of replacing the original wheels ('81 Si). Any thoughts on what's hot?

I really liked the Yokohoma AVS Intermediates. Great grip and pretty good life especially compared to Pirelli! Had them on a MR2 turbo. I currently run the Dunlop SP sport 8000s on the 308 just because I got them at a great price and already have them on my Mercedes. I hear the new Michelins are good, as are the Goodyears.

What tires do you guys prefer on a 308 for best road hugging, driveability, road noise, etc. I have 16" Gotti wheels with Dunlop 8000's currently but they are about gone. I never drive in the rain so that is not a concern. Thanks.
