Guys....one thing to remember: it is not how fast you make it around the track. It is all about how fast you make it around the track in a completely controlled, consistent manner. Understanding the roll that physics is playing. Being able to 'hear' what your car is telling you. Knowing how to respond to what you have 'heard'. Understanding the true purpose , and dynamics of your steeringwheel/brakes/accelerator. Becoming the nerve center/processor of your machine is why we are at the track. Being able to become a more accomplished driver is our goal. I won't go overboard, because we all know that RESPECTFULLY SPANKING THE LIVING SH*T OUT OF OUR CARS is one of the greatest pleasures in life, but everyone needs to travel the learning curve, before trying that. It's not who is faster than who..because all things equal, most people are pretty slow. It's about becoming a better driver, which results in BEING faster. So...going fast is fun. Going fast in a controlled, understandable, consistent, smooth manner is even more fun...and exponentially safer.

Peter. I hope to make it to Lime Rock in my Mondial as well. I came close to trading my other Mondial for a 308 GTB but just barely fit without helmet so passed. |

It doesn't matter if the Mondial is a great track car or not. What matters is how much fun you have driving it on the track. You are only racing against yourself. Also, Martin is right, your enjoyment will greatly increase once you learn the proper track lines. You can easily outrun much faster cars that aren't running the correct line. |

I can't resist Martin :-), " I have blown the doors off a TR" The TR was running backwards while the driver was eating lunch and you past him just as his cupholder broke! Paul |

Peter, a Mondial is not a great track car? The wide wheel stand is actually not bad. Of course you can not compete with a 360CH but you don't have to really if you stay in the right run group and observe the point-by rules. HP is not a indicator that a car runs faster than you on the track. In fact I have blown the doors of a TR but not becasue my car is faster but because I knew how to drive the line correct on the track. The TR was all over the place and I just caught him in the corners until he pointed me by, since on the straights I had NO chance whatsoever! Laptime makes the difference not model and the MOndial handles great. You will be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy! |

Hey Peter....every Ferrari is just as welcome as any other. Speed is relative, and learning how to drive at speed is what it's all about. As William said, there are 3 different run groups. You will be put in the group that is most appropriate to your skill level. There have been many FerrariChat threads about FCA track events....do a quick search, and you will get a lot of information. See you at the track. |

Don't worry about that Peter... there's usually quite a mix of cars. For example, the event we're having March 8 at Talladega (www.fca-se.org) currently has three 308's, three 328's, a Mondial, two 355's, two 360's and probably a 348 coming (no Testarossa's this time, surprisingly). That kind of mix is typical, and there are never any problems between 360s and 308s or any cars in between... we all love F-cars, and it doesn't matter whose is faster than someone elses unless you're in a Challenge driver. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure. |

There is always a spot for your Mondial. I have been track events for 6 years with my 308 QV. Never a problem even when the 355's began to show up more. You will love it. |

Peter Ive been doing FCA track events since 1990. there are usually 3 groups, beginners with instructors, intermediate & advanced. sometimes there is also a lunchtime touring group with a top speed of 80 or so. I'm sure Matt will chime in here soon, he is the Empire State region track boss |

I would like to register my Mondial 3.2 for the FCA track event at Lime Rock. Mondials arent great track cars and Im not planning to hit redline at every shift -- my goal is simply to have some fun and learn how to drive better at 8/10ths. My question is -- is there a mixture of cars and goals at these events, or is the minimum ante F40s with nitrous racing for pink slips. |
