Wade - can you shed a little more light on where you found the uncut version of the show? I taped it several years ago and my wife labeled it "FERRARI PORN" on the side. Now I have to routinely explain to guests who look at our bookshelves to closely that it's not what they think it is . . . |

I agree with John, who cares! Any car built at the Ferrari factory is a Ferrari. Now if you want to use the "Dino" name in describing the engine I really don't have a problem with that. Similar to calling the V12 a "Columbo V12" or a Flat 12 a "Boxer" the only problem is Dino did not design the V8s used and there would have to be a definition described so we would know what makes it a Dino engine. Dino is not derogatory. If anyone is of the opinion that Ferraris are only V12s then they need to study more, because most of Ferraris F1 success has been powered by fewer cylinders. Jamil, Frank just likes to push buttons on this subject. It is not very productive. |

Have read this with some interest. Not difficult to understand Ferrari history, just not clear at times. Enzo named the drop dead gorgeous 206/246 Dino to honor his son Dino. Subsequent models suffered in sales. Market dictated naming the cars Ferraris. If the Dino name was deemed more popular, Ferrari would have sold the 12's etc as Dinos. Market driven decision. Many old Ferrari buffs say all Ferraris produced after '67/ '68 are Fiats. Who the hell cares? |

Jamil, don't concern yourself with this. Frank is the only one on this site who refers to the F40 as a Dino. |

Jamil, this Dino vs Ferrari debate's been around this site for a long, long time. You could do a search on the subject. As far as I'm concerned, if the factory labels my 360 (and other non-V12s)as a Ferrari, then it IS a Ferrari. If you were watching closely, one of the cars driven on the show was a 4-cylinder Ferrari. Another one shown was a 6-cylinder. There's also mention of Ferrari's use of 4, 6, and 8-cylinder cars in racing. |

Does this mean any car built after the Dino is considered a Dino? Why isnt it considered a Ferrari, I mean Ferrari did build it!? |

Enzo needed some money so he decided to build a rather inexpensive 6 cylinder model he called Dino after his son. The Dino is technically not a Ferrari though most of us believe it is. |

Hey Frank, I don't know much about the history of Ferrari. What do you mean by Dino. Is that what they are called after Fiat took onwership of Ferrari? It still would have been nice to see the newer models. I mean let's face it Porsche isn't exactly what Dr. Ferdinan (sp?) Porsche imagined, heck they have an SUV now, yet they still did the show up to the Boxster! |

That show is really great, but I got one better. When I first saw the show a couple of years ago. I thought there must be a non TV edited version. So I went hunting and found the original uncut version. It is about 17 minutes longer and has much more footage. If you can still find it I suggest getting a copy it is much better without the interuptions and the edits. Wade www.fortunemotors.com www.308qvregister.com |

Yah this show has been on a few times in the past 2 years. I loved the 333 SP, best car on the show. The only thing that disappointed me about the show, he never drove any newer Ferraris like 328, F40, 348, F50, F355 or 360. When the host (I forgot his name) did Victory By Design : Porsche, he drove all the classic Porsches and newer ones up to the Boxster. I wish there was a show on SpeedVision that concentrated on recent exotic / sports cars. Actually there was a show that was very close but those hicks at SpeedVision pulled it off the air for more NASCAR racing. It was called MotorVision, it was on Sunday night. They had a lot of great cars on the show.

If you watch and listen carefully, Alain is shortshifting every car. Imagine how it would sound if he was allowed to use the full range. |

Its been on a couple of times over the past few months. I have it on tape. I'm sure they'll run it again. It was taped in 1994 so the sportscar angle of the report ends with the 333 SP. The P3 was awsome and the 333 sounds made me want to pass out. Is it true that Ferrari engineers fiddle with exhaust manifold lengths as a way to tune the engine note? |

That was *way* too short. Alain DeCadenet must be the single luckiest automotive journalist ever. Tiff Needell step aside. ;) James, I agree - the P3 sounded absolutely AMAZING. The GTO, god - just about everything there was gorgeous. Surely this justifies spending 100m on a collection... :D Wayne: whose GTO? Also, what's the going rate on a 166? Tha 275 sounded magnificent! --Dan |

This is one of my favorite videos. Every single car is great, and it is almost impossible to select one as the best. You can find the video from Motorbooks. However it is not for US standards, therfore you need an european set. |

For some reason, at the end I expected him to drive off in a 355 or 360 that was parked out of sight of the camera. Great show. What a heritage. Did you see the names of the people that donated the cars? About 3 of the really nice ones were from some guy at an excavating company. Must be a good business. |

Chris Horner, You should write what you said about the v12s in the 'Attraction of 12s' thread (http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/202899.html?1045021008) then they doubters might get it. Wish I could see this program Pete |

9pm Sunday night there is a show on Speedchannel called "Ferrari: Victory by Design" If you haven't seen it, it's quite interesting. It was on earlier this afternoon and had some really neat information about some of Ferraris earlier race cars (from the late 50's to the 80's). Plus, the luckey jerk hosting the show drove each and every one of the cars and had some nice scenes of the cars tearing up the road. How, oh how does one get a job like that? I can just hear the production crew "Hey, how about we get together some of the sweetest cars ever made, you talk about them and then take them all on glorious test drives. Would you be interested in that? Do you think it will be interesting?" Anyone want to produce a show with me? C'mon DES, I know you would volunteer I didn't know much about the earlier V12 cars besides their names. Now I understand what the passion for those models is all about. They were, and still are, AMAZING vehicles. Plus, the sound of a carb'd V12 can't be touched by anything. Anyway, it's an hour well spent if you haven't seen it already. It is entirely possible that it's been on before and I'm the last person on this board to have seen it..... |
