"I feel alone after a life crowded by so many events and almost guilty of having survived. And I feel too a certain detachment, for in this arid earth that is myself, the plant of hope can thrive only if watered by a son's love."

On the other page it reads, "It was only a joke, all of my V6 and V8 cars are really Ferraris, not Dinos. Tell the purists to lighten up."

I have done some extensive high magnification, digital photographic analysis of the writing in Enzo's notebook in that photo. It reads:

" Dear Horsefly, being a great visionary in the automotive field and having great foresight, I am certain that in the future, a great global computer network will be invented that will allow Ferrari enthusiasts to communicate with one another. When that great day arrives, please keep them stirred up for me. All the best, Enzo."

Werent they supposed to make a movie named Enzo? With Robert Deniro directed by Michael Mann?
I might be wrong on some parts of this, any info would be appreciated

Here is an extract from Richard Williams book called Enzo Ferrari:

Even when he was at the height of his fame & fortune, his name heard around the world, granting or denying audiences to Hollywood stars and names from the Alamanach de Gotha, his mother could sometimes be heard to say, Ah, but the better of my sons is dead.
Who knows what effect such words might have had on the survivor, a boy with strange hooded eyes, and what seeds of a tendency towards the sardonic and the dismissive they may have implanted? At any rate she was, so his friends and acquaintances said, the only person, man or woman, of whom Enzo Anselmo Ferrari was ever frightened. Enzo, Enzo! she would shout. The reply from the grown man was instant. Yes, Mother?
Adalgisa Bisbini came to Modena from her family home in Forli, sixty kilometres along the via Emilia towards Rimini, to marry Alfredo Ferrari. Born in 1859, the elder of the couple by thirteen years, Alfredo was a grocers son from Carpi, a few kilometres north. Both were from modestly prosperous petit-bourgeois families. Alfredo, who had been a supervisor at the Rizzi metalworks, started his own business in Modena, fabricating metal parts. His workshops, and the family house, were sited at 264 via Camurri, next to the railway line running through the northern end of the town; the national railway system became his biggest client. The buildings stand there today, now renamed and renumbered but looking almost exactly as they did then, except for the television aerials sprouting from the roof of the two-storey house. From the road, the house appears deserted, the long, low workshops disused. But round the side, where the railway track passes along the front, up there on the brickwork of the upper floor of the house, the name FERRARI can just be seen, carefully lettered in white paint that may be only a decade or two from fading completely.
Alfredo and Adalgisa Ferrari had two sons. The first, also called Alfredo, was born in 1896, followed two years later by Enzo. The younger sons birth certificate indicates that he was born on 20 February 1898; in fact his appearance in the world had come two days earlier, coinciding with the arrival of a snowstorm so heavy that it prevented his father from travelling to the registry office to report the birth until two days later.

The picture is the last page but one in Enzo's book, "Piloti, Che Gente". I was given a copy when it was new (1984) as a present from Pete Lovely, when I was working at his VW dealership. He has a copy signed by Enzo in purple ink, but mine isn't signed.

Paul: Rob Garven also has a 'thank you' letter for a 1988 birthday card sent. He also has it framed in his 'Ferrari room'. I've got a photocopy of Rob's letter and signed photo.

Terry,

Thank you for the education; it is never too late to learn new things. With regards to the purple ink, I went out and got myself a fountain pen so that I could always sign documents in purple ink. In addition to the very cool Enzo Ferrari story attached to it, I have been told that it is very old school and I like doing things the 'classic' way.

FYI...I sent Enzo a birthday card in 1988; not knowing it would be his last. I unexpectedly got an airmail envelope with a response a few months letter with a thank you card in Italian and also signed in purple ink. He was thanking me for my good wishes. I saved the envelope and card and have it framed and displayed in my Ferrari room. I will always treasure it.

Here is what "Enzo Ferrari-The Man The Legend" video says about the birthday.
"Enzo was born on 2/20/1898 in Modena according to his birth certificate. He always said that his birthday was on 2/18/1898 because there was a snow storm on 2/18 and couldn't record the birth until 2/20. Enzo's mom always sent him a card on 2/18. Weather records don't indicate any snow on 2/18/1898 in Modena."
Anyway! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We should just make February "ENZO Appreciation Month" just to be safe!

He was born on the 18th his birth certificate reads the 20th due to the bad weather. You have the right story just mixed up the dates.

It is true that he was actually born on the 16th. When he died, as per his request, his death was not announced until two days after. These Italians are so theatrical; you gotta love them.

Is it true he was actually born on the 16th but due to severe weather his birth couldn't be registered until 2 days later?

Is this true? I hope so because my friends had a baby girl on Sunday!

Happy Birthday indeed. He would have been 105 today.

I knew he wrote with purple ink, I didn't realise his actual pen was purple!
