Not yet. I am travelling for all of march, so I won't really be able to do much. I'm still strongly considering the euro, especially because for the same money you can get a late 00 or 01, as opposed to a 97/98. I think the updates along the time are worth it, especially as neither car will have a warranty. Rich, yourself, Manu, Doody, Norman and others have been *extremely* helpful and informative. The real question comes down to finding a black/black car here or there. Availability is considerably stronger in europe as well. I'll make a final decision when I return, although I might stop by in italy on my way back. --Dan |

Norman, Same mentality here - question of a daytona vs. 550, but I think the best choice is to have a 550 first, and then a Daytona if you can add it later. --Dan |

Love my Maranello every single moment of it. Long trip 550 is the way to go. I found 360 is easier in cornering with convenient F1 gear box. I personally like the front bumper of 550 compared to 575. I really like the look of the car, "more muscle" than the 360. Never had any problem so far with 550. Mine has 5300 miles on it. Love the sports seats as well. I agreed with Norman, would not trade my Maranello except with Enzo. |

I have a 97 550 with about 11k miles on it. It recently had an alternator, thermocoupler, and fuel pump die in addition to excessive battery draw at rest. The battery thing was attributed to a radio defect and corroded contact in a door. Otherwise, reliable as heck. The dealer says these incidents are highly unusual for a 550, so much so that they had a heck of a time finding the actual problems. The fuel pump and contact issues are not things that the computer can keep track of apparently. They expect the car to run very reliably from now on. I love my car though. Had a bulletproof 98 Carrera S before, but wouldn't trade the 550 for anything (except an Enzo!) Looked at a couple of Daytonas before deciding on the 550. The Daytona is the most gorgeous and sounds the best of the 2, but I was concerned about the reliability and maintenance issues of a 30 year old car. I will probably end up one day with a Daytona though... |

I have a 97 550 with 36,000 miles on it. Never had any major problems with the beast. I know a guy who has over 55,000 on his. Again without any major problems. Since this is my first Ferrari, I cannot compare it to any others. All I can say is it is everything I ever wanted in a car. It lacks nothing. Speed, smooth, and subtle looks.

Have 6,600 miles on my 2001 550 and so far i have had no problems except for a susupenion sensor error which was replaced under warranty. It has been one of the best cars i have ever driven and i love it more everytime i drive it. |

What's not to love! I've had two: a used '97, bought with 3200 miles, sold with 4500; a new (ordered to spec) '03, currently with 2500 miles. By far the best GT I've owned. Going around the block or on a long trip is awesome, so is the fact that you can break the rear loose in ANY gear!! Some cars come and go in my collection, but the 550 will always be there! |

There aren't too many cars out there with high mileage yet. Mine (98) has had motor mounts replaced, valve cover gaskets leaking, fuel pump inertia switch fail, etc. It's got 21,700 miles. I've driven mine fairly often over the last year and a half. |

There have been a number of threads, which you should be able to search, discussing the strengths and few weaknesses of the 550. I've had two: a '97 Maranello and an "01 barchetta. Leaving the aesthetics and (im)practicalities of the open car aside, i found it a better overall performer than the earlier car (although i bought that one used, and it needed some sorting out). They are great cars, real bargains in today's market, and have few drawbacks other than that they are a big, heavy car. Much easier to drive than my 512BBi but less visceral than that car. I have actually been looking for the right Daytona because, in some ways, the modern cars are too refined.None of the F cars i've owned could be considered daily drivers but i do put serious recreational miles on my cars: the '97 550 got driven over 10,000 miles in a period of 5-6 months. |

The 550 has held up wonderfully for the past year and a half. I drive it regularly, and often find myself having more fun than in the 512, which happens to be personal favorite for numerous reasons. Overall, i'd have to say it the best car i have owned. |

Now that they've been out for a while, I'd love to hear some feed-back about your driving experiances. How are the cars holding up? Are you having as much fun as the mid-engine cars? Does anyone daily drive a 550? Did anyone buy a 550 over a old Daytona (do they compete for same kind of buyer)?
