Rob- is that an actual LM wing, or has it been 'retrofited?' (split-level? I don't remenber those.)

Granted, it's at least in the airstream, and on a low-2000lbs ~600hp car ;D)

Best!

Man the light is dim, it's on the LM for downforce to go fast. Spoilers on imports aren't even functional unless you get well above non-legal speeds. Don't think of the LM as a street car, it's not.

Rob and Bonnie, we can agree to disagree. I think the difference is a "riced" out car is made to pose to look like a race car. A F40 LM and a 355 Challenge (my next car) may look "riced" out, but the Ferraris are honest unposing function over form race cars. "Riced" out cars tend to put as much money and effort into posing as they do functioning. I hate to see a F40 LM or a 355 Challenge put in the same category as the negative connotation "ricers". You may not like how a Ferrari race car looks, but then you are more into a Ferraris form than function.

It is also noteworth to say that the mods on a "riced out" car are typically trying to pass off as being beneficial on the track.

Whereas an F40 modded to LM specs really has superiour improvements.

K, i just want to add this...i honestly do not like vettes. (I dated a guy with one, ONCE!, and..shhhh dont tell, i think i dumped him cause he drove a vette, lol.Rob, no offense, but most vette drivers have an attitude..) But needless to say, i am not too happy with the way those ferraris look. Now, its just an opinion, but those are ferraris(not civics) and should be displayed without all that junk on them. They are beautiful cars, why add unnecessary things to them? Ferrari sends them here, to us, looking a certain way, the best way, why not keep them that way:-) They are at there best.... brand spanking new!

1. Stock F40 brakes (Brembo) are offered as an upgrade to other cars, BUT the stock F40 is pretty damn fast at the track. I've been to several track events where F40 drivers told me they were running "out of brakes."

2. Whether or not a Le Mans-spec F40 is "riced out" or not, it's still one damn impressive car. I got an hour long ride in the White Mountains last summer... boost was turned down to about 17 lbs. for street use (the owner was currently racing it in the Rolex series on weekends), and we were driving casually, but, damn, on a curving mountain road, we went from 60 to 130 in less time it took me to swallow my gum.

vty,

John, you are right. One of the SL55s and one of the 550s had some major heat cracked rotors. But then those were really abused.

That's Buttonwillow(sp) and Yes that's Roland's car.

(sorry about the short responses. l'm typing on my Pocket PC phone.)

Coop,
Those SL55s are supposed to be pretty formidable. Although its been said that with so much weight it is easy to cook the rotors.
I see you have a pic of Roland's F40LM in your profile, what track is that?

The most pictures and videos are on dtmpower.net.
There's a $10 fee to access the site which will be removed for a week shortly.

35 Vehicles total.

btw. I couldn't believe the power of the SL55's. We were doing 180 in the Modena and they kept blowing by us as if we were standing still. Absolute Monster for it's weight.

Aw, fer goodness' sake, people: can we please NOT deride other marques here? Let's enjoy the company of fellow motorheads, whatever their persuasion, as long as they are here to celebrate Ferraris. Is that so hard???

It may be true that some vettes are faster and cheaper than some Ferraris...no arguements there. The only problem is that everytime you put the key in the door you have to look at it :-)

"So randy if I had a c5 and a 355...I would just be an jerkoff??"

"that f-40 is riced out...gtr or whatever"

"if you have security issues thats something you should address in group...i just said my opinion on a car, if not having a ferrari makes my opinion worth less then I'll have to laugh at you...I am friends with a few ferrari owners, and i am glad none of them are like you...now take your jealousy and your $30,000 ferrari and kiss my ass"

only a few sniplets from your posts and I sense bitterness and a communication problem. you might be a jerkoff, but I'm not one to say that you are or aren't. rude and uncalled for comments - especially the ones directed towards Rob - are entirely uncalled for by your holier than thou attitude.

Note - I never said it was the car, only the car forums and the attitudes pushed by other C5 owners - not necessarily yourself. so you don't need to jump on the defense so quickly.

So randy if I had a c5 and a 355...I would just be an jerkoff??

How is the car I drive an excuse or an explanation? I dont get how people are able to seriously classify others by the car they buy, thats what I hate about most people in the car community, its always us vs them. Instead of people just enjoying nice cars for what they are, everyone is always on the defensive...

Rob - don't sweat it man. Have you ever browsed the C5 forums? its a big pissing match to show who has the biggest pee-pee. Keep in mind, I really dig the C5's performance on the track and have ridden in several (TWS/Laguna Seca) driven several as well. But the attitudes, it turns me off in a weird way. So, don't let him get to you - its just the attitude that is carried with the group.

As for the F40LM conversion - I think it looks great! One of my favorite cars of all time.

Didn't Roland get the wrecked F40 from some Microsoft Exec?

Anyways, his license plate a few months ago was "LEMANS"
Quite fitting.

During the French Quarter Concourso I was talking to him about the vast differences between his F40 and a stock F40, and he nonchalantly said, "The stock F40 has no brakes, its virtually undriveable!"

He was obviously making a light-hearted joke, but it ws funny how he said it.

Grant,
I didn't realize the "Millionaire" stickers were in reference to the magazine. That makes a lot more sense now. Although my favorite sticker was on the black GT2!!! :-)

Oh great, don't you have the C5 forums? Get your jealous ass off our board, who cares if your car is quicker, less expensive, and handles better. We're Ferrari people, you are Vette people, we each have our own communities. I love vettes and I'm sure you love "some" Ferraris, but you know nothing about Ferraris, so why are you qualified to put them down. Yawwwwn.

Just kiddin kinda, I've seen your other posts, you're ok, but your posts here got me going.

Rob,
That F40 is owned by Roland Linder. Started life as a regular f40, was wrecked, then brought back to life and hoooked up with all sorts of LM spec goodies. Mean as hell. I think Roland said he kept the boost at around 18psi.

As for the "Millionaire" stickers, I agree that those are a little too much

and yeah that 550 got owned by something....anyone notice the camaro cop car next to it...5.0 brough out the big boys for the rally, i'll buy the DVD, seems to be some decent pictures in there thanks for the link...those stickers dont hurt the cars at all, i know exotic car owners who go crazy over finger prints let alone pasting stickers all over the car... :-)

The thing with the 550 doesn't surprise me. I saw him back the 550 into the parking garage when they arrived in New Orleans, and the driver seemed oblivious as to what was going on around him.

In about 30 seconds he went from almost having his door taken off by a parking attendant, to narrowly missing a black lambo when he was backing up, and almost knocking the crap out of the front spoiler because he backed in dead straight instead of at an angle.

Well, I can't speak more about his driving skills because I do not know the guy. Maybe those bunnies were on his mind!

the 550 didn't have its traction control on. it was turned off at the track and the driver forgot to turn it back on. same with the airbags. it was raining pretty hard and the rear came out as he was switching lanes. someone got it on tape but doesn't want to share the footage.
he had it serviced just the day before at barrett ferrari in tx.

In fact they were kind of trashy, my dear, you know with all that skin showing. Terrible. Bordering on offensive, my dear, not classy looking like you.

And baby I was out till 4Am because of the cars, not the girls. I had no interest in them whatsoever.

Boy was that fun. Franco and I organized a track day for the Players Run and had a really entertaining State police escort 60 miles back to New Orleans. I was at about 120 for most of the way. When we reached new orleans we had about 18 police motorcycles take us and the boys into the French Quarter.

That night we hosted a private party on a balcony in the French Quater overlooking Bourbon Street. We had beads and throws for everyone. The crowd was wild.

I think I got home about 4AM. Left the Ferrari in a hotel garage. Its still there until this hangover goes away.

John

By the way guys, if you thought the cars were good looking, you should have seen the babes these guys had with them. Wow!
