I tried it but got the following: "You have made an error while filling out the CARFAX Information Form: You have not fully completed this form. Please click your browser's back button to complete all fields." It took me a while to figure this out but the answer seems to be that I was running an older car that doesn't have a 17-digit vin#. Only cars from 1981 and newer can be checked I guess. (I guess I could check my Saab just for fun...) | ||

Use the link in John's post at the bottom of this page and then click on the little box to the left of the article that has the CarFax "odometer" logo on it. That should get you to the right place. | ||

So does this all mean that instead of paying for an inaccurate history of your car, you can get an inaccurate history for free? | ||

I just tried and got a free carfax using the first (John's) web address. I then tried again and it said only one free carfax allowed per visitor. I then went and deleated my history and temp files in windows and was able to get another free report. ( this is only for informational use and in no way endorses someone to use this method to get more than one free carfax)  | ||

Actually, I can run these things at work for free all the time so I don't know why I just gave out my email address (more SPAM!) to get one. Anyway, my car was whacked hard a few years ago when someone ran a red light and hit me. It was reported to both insurance companies and to the DMV. Guess what, Carfax shows no reported accident history! | ||
