Email me for additonal info: [email protected] Aviation Consumer Magazine has an excellent book that rates these and what to look for. AOPA has an excellent purchasing literature kit. Look at Trade-a-Plane for current prices. 150/152: least expensive to purchase, insure, and run. On an average weekend, will be overgross with two people and luggage. Flying overgross can be dangerous and can get one into trouble. If one decides to do it, I have heard of people flying a minor overgrossed 152 from Barstow/Daggett (sp) CA to Bakersfield to SF and back. Needed lots of runway and climbed like a fat pig. Avoid turblance because safety margins are less. 172: more room, slightly faster, but more expensive in probably every area. Four people and luggage will normally be overgross. 182: some people consider this one of the best small business planes. True 4 place. Faster, but more expensive. More stable. Boils down to what you want to do and available monies. |

Aw, Ed, i wasn't looking for an apology, i was just bustin' chops-- now i feel like an ass... Mike, i don't have that gif to post- i was just mentioning it, knowing that it's on its way, for sure... & you're right, even though i tried muscling in on the O/T movement, Lemus will definitely kick my ass if i get too pompous... It's all yours, Matt, i was just keeping it warm until you got here... |

P.S. DES, you can talk the talk, but the moment you post that animated gif, you KNOW Lemus is going to kick your ass! That's his turf, boy! |

Mike, Thanks for the response. I don't have my pilots license yet, I'm workig towards it. Beautiful plane you have. Iwould love to get a plane like that, but I think it might be too sophisticated for me right now. So, I will stick w/ a high wing trainer type. Any thoughts on a 152 vs. 172? DES, you're right, this belongs in OT,my mistake. Ed |

i see O/T flags overhead, making their way in for a landing... Those flashing red and blue lights won't be for the runway... |

Ed, Do you mean "beginner" as in you have your private pilot's license, or beginner as you haven't started on your license (or are still working towards it)? The Cessnas you point out are great trainers... Really great trainers... I wouldn't have one as my personal aircraft, though. I like a good four-seater, low-winged aircraft with a retractable gear. My vote's for a Piper Arrow. If you've got some serious cash, you can really start to get crazy--Malibus, etc. But an Arrow is a more practical, balanced craft to own. Owning an airplane will not be the most practical thing you've ever done, BTW! Piper Arrow:

on board? I need advice. I'm loking into buying a small private plane(used), what type would you suggest for a beginner? Cessna 150,152, 172, etc... Any tips about what to be aware of? TIA, Ed |
