'94 Porsche Turbo S Flachbau
'01 Ferrari 550M

Lucky enough to have them all. Got others, but these are the keepers!

288GTO
465GT with an F130a F50GT spec motor. The *ultimate* ferrari GT.

Uh. maybe a Pagani to go on parts runs for the other cars? That, or a Citation X.

Here's what I'd like to have in 5 years:
F355 Spyder with unmuffled exhaust on the high RPM side.
465GT
BMW 750iL (maybe ferrari v12 powered, now that'd be neat.)
midsize jet (eg. CJ2)

Hmmm... I believe if I had to limit it to 5, I'd want a sampler -- no repeat brand.

In no particular order:

1) Ferrari -- I'd have to go with the 250 GT cali spyder
2) Ford -- a GT40
3) A Mclaren F1 (I think this one could be traded though)
4) Lambo Muira

but the car I'd get first

5) Porsche 959

Wayne
I was with my friend Stan Nowack the day he sold the GTO that finished 2 OA at LeMans for $42,000.
He begged me to buy it. That was one of my many mistakes. As Joni sang: "There's something gained and something lost in living every day." Did you know Stan? He was a nice guy...
Best

Jim, when I went to select my 5, I knew there had to be a GTO and that it was going to be a series one car. They just have something going for them in the design department that the series two cars are lacking.

Out of the series one cars, I selected 3387GT because of the 2nd OA/1st in class finish at Sebring with Hill and Gendebien, two of my favorites, as well as it having had good finishes at LeMans, Bridgehampton, Watkins Glen, and Nassau in its first year without any DNFs. It then went on to do well at Sebring, Watkins Glen, and Nassau again the following year. It's difficult to pick one series one GTO as none of them were ever 1st overall at LM or anything like that.

I missed your question about Chinetti's 166MM earlier. Like I said, it was a difficult process of elimination. I knew that I had to have at least one of each: 1. a series I GTO, 2. a front-engined TR, 3. a 375 Plus (love those Lampredi-powered beasts!), and 4. a one-off "speciale." Why the second TR over the 166, P4 or other equally significant car? I don't know. Like I said, ask me another day and the answers might be different. I'm already thinking I might have rather picked 0402AM as my "speciale" pick instead of 0488AM. Then again, no. Well, maybe. Oh, why do I only get to choose five?!

Jim,

I would have to go for the Series 1 250GTO myself, even though a Series 2 won Sebring. The Series 2 shape just doesn't quite work IMO ... bit of a con job in my opinion to try and homogate the 250LM ... ie. they had the LM on the drawing boards and wanted to make the GTO resemble the rear engined car :-), etc.

Also one of the Series 1 250GTOs came 2nd at Le Mans ...
Pete
ps: BTW, I'm sure this or something similar has been asked before but, I could not find it, and Jon Shirleys collection just had me thinking that he has too many cars to really enjoy them each individual properly ... what great problem to have when one wakes up :-)

According to this, space ships/shuttles aren't for sale to the public... Would you settle for a model shuttle...? :-)

By the way, you mentioned that the Countach is a pain in the ass, and that's why it's not on your list, but you obviously like Bulls, or you wouldn't have the Countach, so why not just add a Diablo/Murcielago/Jalpa/Miura to your dream car list...? Or do you not like those...? Just wondering... No car list, for me, would be complete without a Lamborghini...

What about the 166 Mr. Chinetti drove for 23.5 hours to victory (His co driver was drunk) stopping only to shave giving Ferrari it's first victory at LeMans? I would think that would be a good one for you.

My choices, in order

1. Red/tan 250 GT LWB Cali Spyder - the best car ever made, hands down.
2. McLaren F1 - the most georgeous and balls-out production to date (love the airbrakes and the fold-in side mirrors at high speed)
3. Ford GT40 GulfOil paint - best lines on any car + the history
4. Red 512 BBi - screams muscle car with Italian style
5. Black 1984 Plymouth Turismo - it was my first car and has a special place in my heart

1. P4
2. 250 GTO, series 1
3. '57 Pontoon Fender TR
4. 250 GT s/n 2819, the Breadvan
5. Enzo

The first 4 would be raced (Historic Challenge, Goodwood, etc.) Enzo and 250 GT0 would be the dailys.

With 1.5- 2 million:

1. Enzo
2. Lamborghini Muira SV, lime green
3. carb. QV Countach
4. 04? 420
5. 288 GTO

Car is probably the best S2000 on the market and it is of course one of a kind. Email me for details.

Ansgar's choice is the best of 5 cars but in reality the best choices should be practical and I would categorize in 3 types of cars- luxury, sports, and utility. So in luxury in would choose a sport coupe since I don't have too many people to carry so it would be a CL65 if it comes out, sports car would be a Ferrari 360 conv. for sportin on sunny days, and for utility it has to be a truck with 4drs. and a bed for loading stuff and the other 2 cars would be what I already have except one more Ferrari in the near future.

Not a whole lot of new car lovers here. Well, call me young and pretentious (I prefer image oriented) :-)

Assuming that price isn't an issue, and I can have all 5:

1) Lambo Murcielago Roadster, Lime Green
2) 6 speed 360 Spyder Red/Tan
3) Bently GT (gotta have a winter car in MI)
4) McLaren F1 (see, I told you I like newer cars over older ones)
5) Benz SL65 if they make it, SL55 otherwise

Yea this was a tough question, reading all your answers make me want ot make some changes to mine but I think ill stick with it...maybe subsituting something with a 355 or a Testarossa depending on my mood.

I would have loved to add a 288GTO or 250 GTO but just didnt think about it at the time!

Next question...If you could have 50, what would they be? :-)

4. Jaguar D-Type, long nose with fin
5. Ferrari 250GT SWB California Spyder

I'll drive the GTO as a daily driver... and the Spyder if its not raining. :-)

Only 5?! Well, okay Pete, here goes:

1. 1954 375 Plus, s/n 0392AM

2. 1954 375 Plus Cabriolet, s/n 0488AM

3. 1958 Testa Rossa, s/n 0728TR

4. 1959/60 Testa Rossa, s/n 0774TR

5. 1962 250 GTO, s/n 3387GT

You don't know how difficult it was to leave so many fantastic cars off of that list. The process of elimination was painful! Ask me the same question tomorrow, and I might pick entirely different cars.

Not including my minivan which I must keep to transport my instrument forever *sigh*. Id take these in no particular order.

1- red 250 spyder california - My concourse car.
2- red 365 Daytona or if not that, a Lusso
3- red 308GTB - daily driver
4- red (non boxer trim) 512bbi
5- red F40 - my race car!

Why all red you ask? Well as much as I like off colors, those cars all seem to be the most popular in red, and it seems to fit them as well. Not to mention its the classic ferrari color!

Daytona
California

I realise that I have made a major error in my 5 cars ... as I have children and none of my cars have 4 doors and thus a REAL daily driver is missing, or I could leave the kids at home, er, maybe not :-)

Thus I would replace the Maserati Bora with a Maserati Quattroporte Evo V8, which has to be the finest looking sedan ever built.

It is interesting to see that most posters have selected pretty extravagent cars :-) :-), or struggled with the 5 only ...

Not very easy to answer, but if there is only space for 5 cars, you would find this cars in my garage (in no particular order):

1.) 288 GTO
2.) F 40
3.) F 50
4.) Enzo Ferrari

Upload

And if i have to transport more than only two people:

5.) Mercedes Benz CL 65 AMG (6 ltr. V12 Biturbo, 612 HP)

Upload

I think 2670 horses in the stable are sufficient (for first :-)).

1) DeTomaso Mangusta
2) Lancia Stratos
3) Lamborghini Muira SV
4) Alfa Romeo Montreal
5) 1967 Camaro Coupe 327/4-speed

Of course these would only come after the five Ferrari list.

Here I go:

1. Ferrari F1: 641 F1 (1990 Prost)or F310 low nose (ex. 96 Schumi Spanish GP car) - race car
2. Porsche 930 - first love, one of Turbo era icons
3. 125 cc Shifter Kart - to help keep my skill level up for driving F1 car
4. Ferrari 328GTS, 355GTS or 360 spyder - street F-car, open-top motoring
5. Porsche 911 Tip - daily driver.

However, I can definitely be satisfied with two cars: Ferrari F1 car and Porsche tip cab daily driver. And hopefully, have enough $ in budget for operation and maintenance of both.

Willis, if i could afford the ten dream cars i listed, i probably wouldn't have to work... Which means that i would definitely be able to drive all ten cars, three times per week-- in fact, i would probably have some time left over, if you're short on time and don't have any time to drive your Pagani... :-)

1)F40
2)365 GTB/4
3)Pagani Zonda C12S (in clearcoated carbon fiber)
4)360 Modena (trade for successors)
5)McLaren F1 LM

Realistic list
1)F40 (hopefully have it by 40th birthday)
2)360 (trade for successors)

5 exotics is too many to use on a regular basis IMHO. By regular, I mean driven 3 times per week or more, rain or shine, unless you're hauling stuff or people.

Ok, i hate questions like this 'cause all these cars go through my head and i'm only allowed to pick 5...

So if it had to be all Ferraris, here's what my list would be:

Ferrari Enzo (black/black)
Ferrari 360 Spider (California blue/Navy)
Ferrari F50 (red/black)
Ferrari Testarossa (red/whatever it comes with- i want it completely the way they make 'em, originally)
Ferrari 333 SP or Ferrari P4 (whichever is fine, really...:-)) (...oh... i'd really like it in red, too...)

Now if i were allowed to make a separate list of cars that weren't Ferraris, this would be it:

Lamborghini Diablo Roadster (Check Florida's thread with pictures from a Mt. Dora event- the purple Diablo is the one i want)
Porsche 962 CR
McLaren F1
Bugatti EB110
Audi Supersportwagen Rosemeyer (For the rough winter weather:-))

Are we including the grocery getters as part of the collection? In my situation it doesn't really matter, just curious what Anthony's last two choices would've been not considering the practical side of motoring. Oh, well, in alphabetical order...

1. Bentley 8 Liter, or should I say Litre
Or maybe the Embiricos Bentley, or the Blower Bentley... I guess this is my dad's influence. All collections should have a prewar beast. (Cheers PSk, the Alfa is a great choice!)
2. Ferrari 250 GTO
Beautiful and savage.
3. Ferrari 250 LM
Mid engined masterpiece. I like them, and they are nice, and they sound good, and they are pretty, and they are fast, and they have holes on the body, and they probably even smell a lot better than the competition.
4. Ferrari 250 TR
If I have to explain this one, you are not a car enthusiast. Just looking at one of these is a life changing experience.
5. Ferrari 512M
It would be my ultimate grocery getter! The pinnacle of the much disliked late Testarossa design. Miami Vice and all! It's also the first Ferrari I had the privilege of engaging in gear and driving, albeit a very short distance. In 1995, at less than 20 years old, an impressionable mind. From then on I started seeing red. The first car I lusted after. And the front boot has a lot of space!

Ask me in a week and my answer will most likely be different. A Bugatti Royale would be nice in case I ever rule over a country and need a good parade car. Maybe an Aston DBR1 (sacrilege, I know). Those Zagato bodies Aston GT's are also nice. The only constant would probably be the 250 TR.

... I personally would not be able to handle a collection of Jon Shirley's volume, to much to choose from and not enough time to enjoy them all.

I think a collection of 5 cars would be a good amount, so you could enjoy tinkering on them, etc.

Thus what 5 cars would I own, money not being an issue:
1. Alfa Romeo 8c2900B. Fantastic late 30's car with GP type engine, and all independent suspension. The F40/GTO of the 30's.
2. 250GTO or LM, er, naturally.
3. 312T5 F1 Ferrari.
4. Maserati Bora, 4.7 early one.
5. Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV. As I already have one and love these wonderful little cars.

As you can see a couple of practical road cars ... to maintain the enjoyment while the others need that extra fettling.

So what would you guys have in a 5 only car collection. If Wayne Ausbrooks replies he has to quote chassis numbers :-)

Pete
