Frank, there is NO factory paint code for the engines, a code was never published. To do a nice and correct job requires matching. The bell housing, block and other misc. parts were/are Dull Aluminum. The manifolds and air boxes are a slightly shinier silver. The pant on the intake is thick because it is layed over zinc chromate primer. About the only things not originally painted are the Distrib, the AC comp. and the AWU regulators.

Dave, I will not be "touching up" any parts but rather refinishing all the entire parts in the engine compartment that are painted. I would like to know the original paint code so it will look OEM when finished.

Frank,
I have found that for touching up aluminum parts that were not originally painted,
rather than painting them, I have them media blasted back to the original finish.
Then I finish by sealing with a couple coats of clear, in your choice of gloss, semi, or flat.
That way you have the original look with a lasting finish, without having to match shades of paint.

What I do is go to a large Auto Parts/Hardware store that has lots and lots of colors on the shelf and search untill I find the 3-4 closest colors and buy a supply. Also, all the aluminum is not painted with the same shade. Mostly (but not all) though to answer your question it is a shade of 'Dull Aluminum'.

While my Boxer is in the shop for service, I want to have the runners/plenums refinished. Does anyone know where I can get the proper OEM type silver paint ?
