Would you include this sort of thing in the book? Panic in the dark - Daytona circa 1971.

Lastly, even if the images were stolen and used for profit by some memorabilia pirate with dollar signs in his eyes, the memories of actually being there are beyond priceless, i'm sure... & Selevan, since you're not jumping around, looking to throw these into something for some quick cash, it's obvious to me that you realize that... i agree with PSK, though, if you were into that sorta thing, a book wouldn't be a bad idea, if you have enough pictures... Sort of like a public album of your younger years, spent enjoying life, not knowing the history it was, until now... Kinda cool, i think... Please continue posting pictures & stories... |

James, Write a book, doesn't have to have much text ... but it would be a great visual history of American motor racing. Would be a really good coffee table book and christmas pressie. Who needs many words when you have photos like this ... plus many coffee table type books on Ferraris and motor racing have so many errors, or the text is written for a 2 year old, so is irrelevant anyway. Wayne could help you with identification ... Pete |

DES - wise beyond your years. There is truth in what you say. However, and there is always a however, have I not basically declared them to be in the public domain by publishing them on an open forum? If I placed a disclaimer after each photograph, basically stating that they could not be used without my permission, I might have protection. Well here it is, please, no one use these without my permission. Thanks. If you wish my permission, I will likely give it to you. If you make money using these photos, then I definitely want to talk to you. Make lots of money, just give me a little of it. Jim S. |

First of all, Selevan has the original photos, so if there ever were a problem, i think that would help him, a lot... Also, (someone correct me if i'm wrong), but actually posting these photos here, which shows dates, etc. is almost like a form of crude copywriting (very crude), as it's very basic, but still might help to hold up in court, that Selevan is the original owner of the photos... i say this because i was told once, if no money was available to copywrite something i had written, that i could just seal it in an envelope and mail it to myself, thus showing the date in which it was in my possession (federally stamped, no less) and opening the envelope would show the material in question... i know we have a copywrite attorney on the board, maybe some insight from him would be cool... (of course, at the same time, i don't want to hijack the thread... sorry, Selevan... ) |

Well for what it's worth, I enjoy seeing those old photos. When I was 10 years old, my family went to a local sports car hill climb. I remember watching one unknown car come flying up the hill, hit the loose gravel, and spin out while almost hitting some lady who was sitting too close to the curve. She dove out of her lawn chair and ended up with a skinned knee. Another local guy use to race a Maserati Osca back in the sixties. I forgot to ask him if he had any photos. But I DID remember to ask him if he knew of any old "racers" (Ferraris?) that were rotting away in a barn somewhere. No such luck.

Oh, I have some of those as well - uncle Joe and the Kodak swinger. I have some of Graham Hill at Jimmy Clark at the Glen that simply won't scan well - taken on some cheap camera in 1967. Who knew they would be of interest 35 years later. Thanks. |

James, I was just wondering about somebody grabbing those photos and running with them. Unlike some old race car photos which were taken by amateurs with wide angle lenses on cheap cameras, your photos have much better quality and detail and an overall more professional look. They look like they were shot by somebody who knew what they were doing, as opposed to Uncle Joe and his Kodak Swinger camera!

Arlie - hadn't thought of it. Should I? There are numerous sites on the Web that have old pictures. I just assumed that most everyone is honest, and that attribution would be in order. Yes, either me or my brother took all of these pictures (unless I attribute to another source). BTW, sorry for the oversight on mispelling Ronnie Bucknum's name. |

James, I am wondering about something. Did you take all those photographs yourself? If so, I assume that they have never been published anywhere before. I'm sure that LWayne would agree that they are fantastic automotive history. But James, aren't you worried that by posting them here, someone will grab them off the web and use them for their own purposes and leave you out in the cold. Or worse yet, grab them, copyright the photos themselves, and leave you holding an empty bag?

Ronnie Bucknum did finish 2nd at Daytona in 1971 in a 512, but this picture is apparently from 1970, with the #20 275GTB in the background, same car as the first picture. Automobile Year says Cluxton and "Tatun" drove the #20 car and retired with cooling system trouble. Sports Car Graphic and Autoweek agree. Road & Track says Cluxton and BUCKNUM drove the 275GTB, which would agree with this picture. SCG, AY, and Autoweek say Bucknum and Pickett drove a 365GTB (Daytona). R&T says Pickett and Gregory drove the 365GTB, which apparently retired with a lost wheel. What do the experts say? |

And here is Ronnie Buckman at Daytona in 1971. He drove a 512 S (SN 1006). He drove the same car at Sebring the year before. (I have attached a picture of the car that I found on the Web).

Anyone remember Vic Elford? Here seen with Cluxton. (I suspect most would prefer pictures of cars - but some of these drivers, Rodriquez, Elford, Surtees, Tombay, Hunt, Reggazoni - seen on my other thread - were heros of their day, and one does not see many pictures of them today). More cars to come. Jim S.

It certainly does! I find it a bit odd that a 2002 Michael Schumacher racesuit is worth more than a Gille Villeneuve one. Especially considering that modern F1 drivers usually go through 2 suits in a weekend and the older suits and helmets were worn for a full season. I must be a very boring person as I find this thread quite fascinating!! |

James, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Seeing these old photos is so exciting! My father inlaw did timing for daytona in the sixties and I have seen some wonderful pictures of the 1967 daytona, unfortunately he has lost the box. I think I may have one picture at home that he gave me, but I will have to do some digging. He did give me a program from the race and a patch that they gave him for timing. Great memorabilia for me considering the result. I know Jim (Napolis) has the best memorabilia from that race. Please post more! |

I'd prefer something with a Ferrari badge on it. I love the old team shirts and jackets. It wasn't that long ago that the Ferrari mechanics all wore yellow t-shirts and shorts during pitstops! Nowadays they look like they're wearing spacesuits! I don't suppose anyone has any pictures of Ludovico Scarfiotti? A friend of mine used to know him. |

I love the 1970's Ferrari teamwear! My wife buys all the modern Ferrari F1 team uniforms from the team and sells it on. This means I have some nice jackets, coats, and shirts, but I really want some of the 1960/70's stuff. The jacket that Cluxton is wearing looks great (or is he wearing a racesuit?). BTW I love the cars aswell! |

Took a quick look at the old "Automobile Year". The #34 car in the top picture is the Matra-Simca 650 of Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Henri Pescarolo at Daytona in 1970. The #2 Ford GT40 is the David Hobbs/Mike Hailwood car from Daytona in 1969 (DNF, cracked head). On the #25 Ferrari 512S, notice the huge bubble in the roof to give Dan Gurney some head room!! |

Jim, I think that photo of Cluxton in the 275 is at Daytona in 1970. That would make it s/n 9063. The other driver was Tatum. Resulted in a DNF, though I don't know why. I'll leave the GT40 pic for Jim G. as it's right up his alley. In the photo with the three cars together, #25 in front is the 512S Berlinetta of Gurney/Parsons (s/n 1014) and the car right behind it is another 512S Berlinetta (s/n 1004) driven by Ickx/Schetty. I have no idea what the third car is. Anybody else? Oh, yeah, it was also taken at Daytona in 1970. |

DES - the two guys talking are Pedro Rodriquez and Harley Cluxton. Just two ordinary guys out for a Sunday drive. That's Cluxton driving the 275 in the lower picture - Daytona - I believe 1971. I will do more homework on the date. Jim S. |

Selevan- awesome pictures, especially the last one you just posted... Very nice... These are all so cool, i can't imagine all the stories behind them... Don't be scared to incluDE Some with the pictures... In your first post with the three pictures, when i saw the middle one with the two guys talking, all these dialogues went through my head-- lol, i can only imagine what they're talking about... "Bobby, you don't understand, she's been eatin' a lot these last few days and i come home last night and BAM! All of a sudden, her ass is out to here...!" LOL, pictures are so cool... |
