Frank,

That's what I was referring to when I said no telling about private imports or exports. I would guess there are about 50 carbs and 140 fi in the US

Matts numbers are the same as I have read. But, I understand that in the late 1980s a lot of the Boxers in the U.S.A went to new owners in Japan never to return.

These numbers will enable you to confirm whether a specific s/n car is certified. I don't know whether they have the capability or the willingness to provide information on all the vehicles of a particular model.

Hi...........

Does anyone have a connection at the EPA or DOT ? Should be government records on all of the cars that legally entered the country with full certification.

Tom,

Ferrari was notified about cars being sent to the US as grey market, hence the "official number" from ferrari

sorry did not mean to imply that some were officially imported - I meant for the models that are offically imported (308, 328 etc) people still don't even know how many come to the US

Those were offical import numbers provided by Ferrari. No telling about private imports or exports.

Matt, that's what I was wondering and close to *my guess* of about 150-250 as well. They didn't become really popular with the masses until FI came along.

It would be interesting to have a handle on some kind of number just for fun.

I heard about 300 from a dealer. I don't think that included the ones brought in later (post 85) or the ones that went back.

William Lyon from Mobile AL imported my car. I would guess there probably were some 500 total boxers brought in this country, though this is a guess and it might be too high.

All Boxers in the US are grey market cars. Ferrari never imported this car. Many of the Boxers, especially in the Southeast, came through Mobile, AL.

prob impossible to find out - just think how hard it is to find the number of cars sent to the us by the factory let alone via grey market - maybe merritt would have a good guess
