Noel, one thing to think about the Tubi will loose DB's as the carbon builds up in the system. Test pipes will only make the car louder, with a tubi. It would be interesting to see what happens with test pipes and stock system. You can also zip tie the vacume valves on the stock system |

I Have a Tubi on my 456 and can't imagine the car without it. It sounds great around town but not too loud on the freeway. |

Maybe it's just me but I don't ever find the tubi too loud, and I'm the type of person who hates the loud sound coming from most ricer cars and all motorcycles. I don't think the tubi is loud per se in terms of decibels... but i think it imparts more of a bass grumble which I like. In neutral, it reminds me of my viper a bit and when you step on it, it just sounds wonderful. I got my 360 spyder used with tubi already installed and I've told quite a few people this. I'm not the type of person that would have ever have ordered a sport exhaust, so I'm glad it came on the car because to me, it's worth every penny and then some. --- John BTW- I always drive with the top down. |

Did anybody do a self install on a 360 coupe? If so please list out the steps. |

Brian- you may try test pipes on the stock exhaust... I haven't yet found anything that sounds as good as the 355 for the 360. (except maybe the challenge/open exhausts, and only at full song Best! Ben. |

ernesto is right. many different opinions. i have owned both a 355 and a 360. tubi's were an absolute must for me. i am still unhappy with how quiet the tubi's are on the 360 and will be adding test pipes within the next month. this set-up might be too loud for a spider though. |

Very interesting discussion... I'd love to continue to hear others impressions... One question: Is there any aftermarket exhaust for the 360 besides Tubi that just mildly increases the low-speed sound, but really enhances the high speed?? I like my stock exhaust's sound curve really well... its fairly quiet up to about 4K, and then it growls up to 6K, and then shrieks on up to 8K. However, my ideal would be a little more of a grumble below 4K (just a little), a bit more volume on that middle growl, and all you can give me on that high-end shriek (well, within reason). I do NOT want an exhaust that does more at the low end than at the high end, flattening the curve so-to-speak. Suggestions?

Have to disagree with you Frank. I bought a car with a Tubi and couldn't understand why someone would spend so much on an exhaust system. Now I feel it's worth every penny. A Ferrari engine should sound like a Ferrari engine. Sounds like music to my ears but most so above 4K RPM.

I have Tubi on my 360 Spider. For the majority if the time I really enjoy the sound. However, there are times when I wish I could turn down the exhaust note especially at low speeds. With the top down at can be loud. At highway speeds with the top down I usually drive in 5th or 6th gear to tone down the sound. I do like the rumble while at idle which is very similar to a power boat.

Personally, I wouldn't own a 360 without the Tubi AND catpipes. It should be a mandatory option. But, opinions are like aXsXoles, everybody has one... to each his own. Ernesto |

I suspect that a lot of the reason a lot of folks claim they love their Tubi is because they hate to admit that they paid so much for something they like so little. |

I had a tubi installed on a 348 and on a 355. In the latter, i found it too resonant, and a cop magnet. On the boxer, there was no need for it, and on the 550's, they are a bit too quiet, but i don't know that i want to go back to the racket of the tubis. I know manu, here, had a number of different recommendations, as a Tubi dealer. Doesn't the 360 sound better at hi-revs, even without an aftermarket system? |

I have a Tubi exhaust on my 328 GTS that I installed last year and it sounds great but what I did was remove the cat and install Nick's test pipe and had a fiberglass baffle installed inside of the test pipe. Now my car sounds great and has more power than stock but I don't get a headache from the resonance at highway speeds. It was too loud for me without this mod and I almost went back to stock until I tried the baffle in the test pipe. This is a nice compromise and you can still talk or hear the stereo and your ears will be happy in the long run.A baffle is very cheap to install and any exhaust shop can do it,plus it is not visible as you only see the test pipe and muffler.I can also go back to stock with no problem because I only changed the test pipe and not the rest of the system. Agree with love/hate relationship with my Mondial 3.2 tubi. Revs easier and sounds way better great - but make no mistake it is louder. Perhaps a bit too loud for a daily or an extended trip where conversation is expected. At faster cruises conversation becomes pretty much like in an light airplane - a mild shout. It does sound great though - harmonizes well with Bocelli cranked up on the stereo. Sempre, Russ |

noel - i have a tubi on my 550 and i'm having a love/hate relationship with it. it is designed to boom at low RPMs. i find that at highway cruising speeds i don't have a problem with it. but driving around town it makes the car conspicuous and loud in the cabin. as the doc said, swapping it back to stock is not that big a deal. i'm forcing myself to live with it for a few months more before i make a decision. it is a lovely lovely noise - just maybe too much of it :-) doody. |

I think your experience with the sound is common, but I guess personal taste if you like it. I like low RPM gurgle like an American muscle car, I like the high RPM whine of a race car, and I like the popping when slowing down. Does the Tubi just enhance the low end, how about the slowing down poppin. My stock exhaust does all the above, but would a Tubi enhance those qualities. |

Noel I did not install a Tubi on my spider for the reasons you mentioned. I found the Tubi to be annoying and tiring at low rpms. At high rpms I didn't think the Tubi was that much better than the stock exhaust. With the top down the standard exhaust is plenty loud and enjoyable. As an aside, my dealer even said he would not put a Tubi on a spider (the coupe is a different story).

The Tubi really made my car resonate at low rpm. I like it. Leave it on for a while and don't let it bug you now since you can always remove it later. You may grow to enjoy it. |

I know this is going to stir up somed debate but I had a Tubi installed on my 360 spider yesterday and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Part of what sold me on it was the opinions of the guys here at F-chat, it seems like everyone loves their Tubi(I know that they don't sound the same on all of the cars so this doesn't really apply to non 360 guys). Also, I thought that my 355 sounded great, when the extra valves opened up it just sreeked. the 360 w/o the Tubi was very quiet at low rpm, and then perked up when you hit the gas. Now with the Tubi, the low end grumble is very loud when you are at low speeds and the high end is definately better. I guess my problem is i feel like the car is louder and resonates too much at low rpm, without the tough sound like the 355. I don't know if it just takes some getting used to or if there is anything else I can do(like test pipes). Anyone, have an idea what I can do to limit the low end resonance? |
