Jim, it's s/n 1042. I haven't seen or read about this car making any recent appearances. As for the history, it's a little too modern for me but here's what the Barchetta boys have on 1042: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/1042.512S.htm |

DES - Southern California is not conducive to this type of racing. I grew up on the east coast, and frequented Watkins Glen, Sebring, Daytona, Lime Rock, Cumberland, Elkhart Lake. With 3 young, contumacious boys, they won't sit still long enough to go to a race. I have been to Long Beach Grand Prix 4 times, and it is a poor example of a Grand Prix. Las Vegas Grand Prix, which I attended in the 80s was as bad. No, I'm sorry, but I have not been to many races in the last 20 years. The last really fun race was Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal (circa 1982). That was a beautiful course in a beautiful city. Fall colors and weather, similar to Watkins Glen. I live the memories. Did enjoy the old Nurburgring -14 mile course - in 1973 (have a picture or two of that). Jim S. |

Selevan, on your picture of the 010 (# 61), i see the air scoop in front of the rear wheels, but not above... (?) Very nice pictures- i assume you went to these events quite often... Do you still go to races...? |

Sebring - 1970 I believe - loitering around the pits. I believe this is a 512S, making this the Jackie Icks / Peter Schetty entry. Wayne and James - what's the history (VIN, etc.)? any pictures of this car in recent shows? Jim S.

Wayne - I didn't have to search the Web, but did search my collection (my brother had it). Does this look familiar? This I definitely remember taking at Dayona - circa 1969 - walked a few yards along the wall as they drifted out of the turn. Notice that this does not have the wing, and it does have an air scoop above and in front of the rear wheel well. Must be a 910 (I believe Masten Gregory and Richard Brostrom). Jim S.

James and Wayne Note one fantastic detail. The movable split rear spoiler. This was controlled by the suspention I believe and provided downforce to the side of the car that need it more in a turn! Best Jim |

Not being a Porche guy, I really have no clue on this one so I went Web-searching and found this photo with caption, "Joe Buzzetta & Jo Schlesser-Porsche 907-Daytona-February 1968." Does it look similar to you?

Notice the orientation of number 52. These cars were in a 4-wheel drift all the way through this turn as they approached the wall that I was standing behind. The line was amazingly consistent. They would come within 24 inches of the wall each lap, in the drift, day and night. There was no screen or protection behind this wall. Frightening at first, one grew confident with each lap. My hearing is still affected. At the end of the long straight that they were entering in this picture, they approached 220 mph (in 1969 with a 6 cylinder engine). Jim S. |

Time for one tonight. While not Italian - they did command respect. I am not sure if this is Sebring or Daytona. I thought that these were 908s exiting the infield onto the back banked-oval. However, I remember taking this shot, which would place it in either 1966, 1969, or 1970-74. The 1960s were a little early for 908s. I looked on the Web and found two Porsche 906s running at Sebring in 1966. These, however, look more like 908s. - (Edit - found them, Daytona, 1969 - Jo Siffert and Hans Herman in front - Vic Elford and Brian Redman behind. Both 908s - DNF). Jim S.
