Uk cars are Right hand drive , my 348 is a Left hand drive import. Brought a lefty simply because it was almost 20 thousand british pounds less than the uk Right hand drive cars which put the Spider in my price bracket. Took about 2 weeks to get used to driving (first car ive driven Left hand drive) but I hardly notice the difference now |

I work as an underpaid technical specialist for HP. I was very lucky last year and came into a bit of money, having a life long passion for Ferraris and spending countless sleepless nights over the years thinking about one day owning one(I guess like most people on this list) anyway I spent all the money on a 1994 348 spider last year at 27, most people thought i was mad (including my girlfriend) but they dont understand the passion behind ferrari, anyway ive loved every minute since & never had any regrets just a few worrys about the service bills if anything goes wrong .... thats why this site is soo great the advice and friendly people just make me enjoy the car more.

Ken, have fun in your search for a 328. Mine just ended last friday, when it was finally delivered! I love it. Find myself making any excuse to drive somewhere...Terry, that's so true. I've met so many unassuming multi-millionaires. Too often, we see the stereotypical image of a "successful" person--so driven and ruthless that they can't even enjoy life. Not necessary. Here's an oldie--More than one way to skin a cat. (Can't say I ever have...) |

Rob, Thanks for the nice comment about my wife and I's occupations. Alot in common between the two. Drive them often and spiritedly and they'll work very well. Let 'em sit and they turn into hangar queens. |

Bruce, Good stuff about the exhaust systems on the -60. No, we try to keep our tail's as cool as possible...Now, that is aftermarket but still, lowest bidder.. Folks, I love this bit about a book and it's cover. Honestly, I'm 30 but I look like I'm about 23. One day, I'm going to spontaneously age; it's going to be ugly! I'm not rich having a seven year salary with the army. My key was commitment, saving, a little planning and support from the wife. I'm thankful for all. Dane |

The April 27 edition of Houston Chronicle has an article about how Mel Spillman defrauded 122 estates to find his collection of Ferraris. Needless to say, I dont think he "earned" his Ferraris. Spillman Article |

Terry Springer. I agree with you completely. I have a friend who has sold Ferrari's at a well known dealersip for many years. He once told me that he never judges a potential Ferrari customer by their appearance. If you do you will be very surprised and disapointed most of the time. Bill |

I dont own a Ferrari as yet, but am in the market for a 308 GTB. I have been in the mortgage business for over 10 years and started my own company last fall. In the mortgage business I see the intimate financial picture of thousands of individuals and families. One thing this has taught me is that you can never judge someones net worth by their car, home or general lifestyle. I have dealt with many clients who have Ferraris and Porsches garaged in a mansion that fits their Countryclubs expectations but everything is financed to the hilt and they have a substantial negative net worth. I have also dealt with clients who live in small homes, drive used american cars and would never even consider floating more than $1k on a credit card yet are worth several million dollars. You can never tell.... If anyone wants to really know what wealthy people look like and how they got that way, read the book The Millionaire Next Door. Terry |

My company use to find engineers for all the automotive companies in Detroit. But with the auto industry consolidating, and looking more and more German and Japanese these days.... I now mainly find engineers, scientist and executives for the Wireless and Medical industry. I enjoy my occupation... as a HeadHunter (technology pimp) I get to know every technology, and I know what everyone is working on for the future. I use to be a television director / producer with my own company. We did Golf and Resort films. Couldn't make enough money so I dropped that. I am also a marine biologist, but it didn't pay well so I do that as a hobby now. |

Hello all, this is my first post. I am 23 and am currently studying for the Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Melbourne (Australia). Once I graduate and commence practice as a lawyer, I would like to fulfill a life long dream of owning a Ferrari, preferably a 355 Spider (the old fashioned six speed will do me just fine thank you very much!!!). To be honest though, I do not expect to be in a financial position to purchase one within the next 10 years. It can take time to become established in the legal field, although I suppose the same could be said for most endeavours. Needless to say, the possibility of Ferrari ownership is a major motivating factor in regards to my studies; especially whilst pouring over dense case law and legislation past midnight! Anyhoo, just wanted to say a traditional 'G'day' to all the members here; moreover, I look forward to happy posting in the future with what seem to be varied and interesting fellow Ferrari fanatics. Forza Ferrari!!!! |

I'm an art director (I tell people what things should look like). I create and develop ads and marketing materials. I owned my own company for several years, but for the past 7 years I've been working for design agencies. Currently I work for a campaign consulting firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. My favorite car of all time is the 288 GTO. But they are a bit pricey :-), so I own the next closest looking car an '85 308 QV. I owned many muscle cars in the past. For 12 years I roadraced motorcycles including AMA Superbikes. I've ridden a few of Art Chambers bikes as well- Hi Art!

We own a medium sized international architecture firm that does modern, technological avant garde buildings in Europe. "Green" buildings as they are called here. It is amazing how little market there is for this kind of thing in the States. Many architects in NY talk about green buildings, but what they accomplish is minimal compared to places like the Netherlands. We manage to use only one-third of the energy and still are able to make transparant buildings. Nevertheless we are enjoying what we are doing and are possibly the smallest multi-national in the world. |

Im yet to get my first Ferrari and to be honest Im quite a way from it at the moment. But I definately have *the passion* for the cars. Im planning to get a 355 B by the time Im 30 if all goes according to plan through the stock market and other investments. For the record I make the Ferrari UK, Maserati UK and Ferrari Belgium sites, and worked of ferrariownersclub before that. Its very very difficult to work day in day out with Ferrari's and not end up wanting one more than anything else, but there you go. Had my first ride in a 360 Spider, Nero last year and it was the most fun Ive ever had in a car - had a grin on my face for the rest of the week. |

Kenny hit up that thread "win a lambo" or whatever it was. Get the stuff, grow like a 2 foot shlong (I'm assuming you don't already have one, bare with me), win the lambo, become a pornstar. The only two requisites for porn stars are big things and a diablo, you'd kill two birds with one stone. |

Well, I am turning 17 in litterly a week from today, and college is coming up in a couple years. Like most (if not all) of you guys, I started dreaming of cars since I was introduced to my first E-type (my uncle has a collection of old British cars). My father is from South Africa, and I am told all the time by my relatives that he was a huge car fanatic- but he watched his best friend flip and die in a little MG while racing on an abandoned road. The first Ferrari I have ever been in was Will's (countachxx) 512tr, a few years ago- that was an experience! Scared the sh*t out of me! Ever since that day, I have been crazy about Ferrari. I have set goals for myself- that I will have a Ferrari by 30, 2 by 35 and a collection of 5 cars (not necessarily Ferrari) by 40. I am looking at colleges now, don't exactly know what I want to study, but the law (becoming a lawyer) really intrigues me, so I might head down that path- that or marketing. I know alot of you guys were in my place at one point or another... Any tips? |

Me- I always wanted to be a fighter pilot but never went further than a private pilots licence flying a C-152. I'm 58 and plan to retire in 4 years with my second wife. I want to order a 360 coupe but don't want to part with the TR. Check-out my profile to see the best 91 TR on the planet!! I'm afraid I've now addicted my son. Every day since I got the car, when we leave in the morning to take him to school, he stops in the garage and says "can we take the Ferrari?". After months of explaining to him what a "drive the Ferrari" day should look like, this morning we went to the garage and as the door was going up he looked outside and said very matter-of-factly, "We're not taking the Ferrari today". It's been raining like hell in Dallas all weekend. |

Robert, I have wondered the same thing since I joined the chat. As for me..... Quit my career as an aerospace engineer to become a patent attorney. Graduate law school in 5 weeks. Between cramming for exams, I have been checking out local Ferraris for sale (Dallas) and trying to figure out if I can afford one now and still pay back my student loans. I can guarantee that the day my first Ferrari gets put to bed for the night in my garage, I will be crying like a baby. It will be the realization of an ultimate passion. |

Dave I couldnt have said it better myself. It was always my dream as well! Friday I was at my mechanics working on my 30K with him and there next to the fruits of all my hard work was a persons Lotus S4S that she brought into the shop 2 months ago because her boyfriend smashed the car with a baseball bat. She hasnt called or picked it up since then, she keeps paying the bills for them to have it in their shop but doesnt give a damn about the car. Jeff (My mechanic) and Brandon (another mechanic) showed me the inside of the car and it was a PIT!! She used here ash tray till it over flowed, then used the passenger seat footwell as her spare ash tray and garbage can! She has 15 empty pop cans and numerious other disgusting material laying on the floor of this beauty!! This car was more beat to hell on the inside than any car I had seen in a long time, including various '80 something dodge OMNI's I have seen lately. It was just sad to see a car like that, that I would LOVE to own and care for in the hands of someone who has so much money it doesnt mean crap to them. That was just my little rant about how I wish every car like that had an owner that cared for it! Back to the main topic here....I work for IBM in the WebSphere application server development area. |

Agree, Jim E & wm hart. I dreamed of what it must be like to actually sit in a Ferrari in the 7th grade. I dreamed of what it must be like to actually ride in one in the 8th. I dreamed of what it must be like to actually drive one in the 9th. And ever since, until I was fortunate, lucky, and blessed enough to own one, I dreamed of that day. And every day since, EVERY SINGLE DAY, I look in my garage and pinch myself. I cannot believe that this car--this lifetime dream--this lifetime passion, is parked right in front of me. And I have the keys. And I get to drive it whenever I want (including on track yesterday)! And every time I realize it is all true, I am so thankful and grateful to have been so blessed, and hope I earn it for another day. That's how I feel. And you know what? What I do for a living, or have done, is irrelevant, because I know each & every one on this board feels the same way, regardless of backgrounds or income. Why else would Rob put it up & maintain it so well? Why else are we all posting here & sharing each of our wealth of information every day? Why are we all thinking & talking about our first Ferrari? Or dreaming about our next one, even if that remains but a dream? That's not snobbishness, and that's not tea drinking. That's passione, that's emozione, that's Forza Ferrari. |

What this does reveal is the diversity of backgrounds that share a common passion. I agree that there is little correlation between ownership and wealth since people i know who are alot wealthier than me regard the expenditure of anything more than MB "S" money as an extravagance;its a question of priorities. Frankly, most of the F car people i've met over the years have been pretty cool, and not the snob dickheads that fit the stereotype. |

I think what you do for a living is less important than what you did to get your cars. I think for many of us it's been a lifelong goal more than a show of wealth or status. Most people refuse to see it that way and always assume that Ferrari=wealth. I've worked all over healthcare, from insurance companies to selling software, and am now managing a nationwide team of client relations people for a pharmacy benefits company. I'm certainly no pauper, but I know many people that have more money tied up in their daily drivers than I do in my Ferrari and my every day car combined. Yet I'm the one that always gets the 'too much money' cracks. |

Nice comeback. Not. Yes, I misspelled your handle--no loss there. Back to your algebra homework, kiddo. This board is not roomy enough for your sexism & racism, nor is it welcome. Does your mom know you are still on the computer when you should be doing your homework? |

I'm in college now. Damn where did highschool go. I work for my dad's company during the summer (construction). It is easier financially speaking to buy a Ferrari when potentially 100% of your income could go towards it if you so desired. Although I haven't gone this route, it does seem appealing when I look at all the go fast goodies I really should get, rather, that I really need. |

I own a small hardwood flooring business (Installing, sanding, refinishing). I don't make alot of money but I do good work and people tend to remember a good job and a nice guy. By being fair and honest, and having a great wife, I've been able to make my dream of Ferrari ownership come true. If I can own a Ferrari, then anyone with a bit of initiative and alot of hard work can own a Ferrari. It feels great. |

i'm one of beelzebub's minions. i torture lost souls with surnames starting in the range "Naj.." to "Ner...". i used to handle oversight of the entire "N" division, but after i screwed up on Richard Nixon i got demoted. luckily i was saving during those management years - no way i could have afforded my 355 on the salary of a lesser demon. but, hey. it's a living. doody. JOKE: a gentleman dies and goes to hell. satan meets him at the gates and escorts him in. he's very very concerned about what fate satan is going to sentence him to for eternal torment. satan brings him to a room with three doors. he tells the recently deceased gentleman that he can pick his own everlasting torture from one of the three. satan opens the first door. in it the gentleman sees thousands of people standing on their heads in the middle of a desert while scorpions sting their faces and snakes bite them and sand wasps sting their eyes. a torturer demon wanders among them directing the vermin to souls he thinks need additional abuse. the gentleman shudders at the vista and begs satan to shut the door. satan opens the second door. in it he sees thousands of people standing on their heads for eternity in a toxic waste dump, breathing horrific fumes and with their eyes burning and watering from the noxious chemicals. a foul looking torturer demon hurls radioactive waste at souls that annoy him, and drops horrible, mutated insects into the upturned nostrils of the tortured souls. the gentleman shudders again, but thinks this is an improvement over the first room, all things considered. he asks satan to see the last room. satan opens up the third door. the putrid odor of feces spills out through the door so thick that the gentleman almost chokes. thousands of souls are trudging pointlessly and miserably around in circles in nearly a foot of horrid fecal matter. they are covered in it. a large torturer demon covered in steaming feces sits in the corner glaring at the souls. the gentleman thinks for a moment and decides that the third room is horrific, but he thinks he can put up with it once he gets used to the odor. satan waves him into the room and shuts the door behind him. the torturer demon glares at the gentleman, stands up, looks at his watch and shouts to the thousands of souls: "break's over! back on your heads!".

Ok I'll play too. Was a dentist for 12 years, then founded several specialty HMOs and practice groups. Currently CEO of our company which owns insurance companies, HMOs, dental practices, a consulting company, a third party administrator and a restaurant (don't ask). Also provide venture capital for start-ups in the health care field, and own some rental real estate. Great to be an entrepeneur, but I slept better when I had one dental practice (although I couldn't afford an F-car then). 1974 Dino 246 GTS 2001 360 Spyder 1997 911 C-4 Carrera 2000 BMW 540i 2001 Suburban No more room in garage |

I work for the government. salary is terrible but the bribes are great. not really, I'm a politician, great bribes and kick backs here too. no I'm a school teacher - $30K a year only work a couple months a year total with all the vacation days, holidays, conference days, planning days, time off in summer, etc. which allows me to hold a "real" job down full-time. no I'm an executive with Enron. no, really I'm a "union" employee so I dont do much and if my boss says anything I threaten that I will file a union grievance, then I go on strike and ask for more money and less work because they expect to much from me. no, I'm a union official, I take all the employees money in the form of dues and tell them that I care about them and if I didn't protect them and fight for their "rights" who would, after all we need unions, we live in America, the land of free enterprise where you are limited only by how hard you want to work or your want to work, then I take the union dues and buy Ferrari's. not really. I am a county recorder in Texas and I steal from dead peoples estates and buy Ferrari's ( oops, I think that ones already been done - Mel Spillman) really - I own several small business's from computer training, computer support, install repair etc. another doing digital TV signal install/repairs, DSL install repairs, DSL support call center, Harley theamed restuarant/bar, communications company that designs high capacity data lines T1 and higher, and a company that manufactures custom coach's (motorhomes). |

I'm a lawyer in San Francisco, specializing in Employment law, but I do some work in Personal Injury. Because I used to race, I acquired contacts in the racing world, and represent some drivers and motorcycle riders and race teams. I have tried cases in employment law and personal injury, and have been doing this for about 30 years. I would call my practice successful, with several results in excss of 7 figures over the years. I currently have F355, having previously had a 348 sypder, and a 348 TS. My garage (actually the plane hanger) holds: 1 F355, 1 1000 GSXR Formula Extreme Race Motorcycle, 1 Harris Chassis Ducati (used to win the Battle of the Twins Championship in 88, a relic), 1 GSXR 750 AMA Superbike, 1 GSXR 750 Supersport bike, 1 1977 Triumph Boneville (greatly modified), 1 Trackmaster 125 Shifter cart, a 2001 Audi, and an airplane: Beech 58/G. I am a copyright lawyer in NYC, practice as a partner in a big NY-based firm, and deal with alot of music, internet and miscellaneous (eg publishing, right of publicity, arts and entertainment related)"rights" stuff, largely for corporate "content" owners. One of my favorite clients is a now retired (early) Brit, a behind the scenes in the industry kind of guy, from the golden days of R&R, who spends most of his time driving in things like the Mex- Pan American, the Round the World in 80 days, and other endurance, long distance rally stuff, mostly in old fashioned U.S. iron.(Most lawyers seem to dig Porsches, ho hum). |

Having read the discussions for a while, I am amazed at the numbers thrown around for the costs of some ferrari's mentioned here. Which leads me to this question. What do you do for a living? I'll go 1st. I am a Chef on a private yacht. Took me 25 years of sweat equity to finally buy a ferrari instead of a bunch of fine meals. BTW I have a Silver/Tan 1985 308GTSI QV. Cheers! |
