Homer, is that necessary...? Do you really need to insult Huffy like that...? :-)

Wow, a 76 Pacer! I think you got me beat there. I think they actually went up in value a little bit when the Waynes World movie came out. I for one, lost all respect for my Chevette when I drag raced my buddies in a Chevy Monza, an Opel and a Renault convertible. I lost big time when the automatic transmission refused to shift up from first gear. To add insult to injury, my rear view mirror fell off due to the vibrations from the high rpms.

Jeffery: I respectfully disagree, the Prius is not the modern day Chevette. I believe the modern day incarnation of the Chevette is a Huffy bicycle.

Jeffrey,

BMW Z1 was the predecessor to the Z3- a mid 80s model Check out http://www.supercars.net/cars/1986@$BMW@$Z1g.html for more info.

My first car when I turned 16 was a 76 AMC Pacer. I even took my driving test in it. That was in 1984 (like that matters, it was ugly as in 76).
That car REALLY makes me appreciate what I drive now.

Homer. I think the Toyota Prius was probably put on for this reason, as it is a modern day Chevette, actually even a bit more ugly! Seems like a silly list as it is nowhere near what I would want to drive (maybe I am just jealous that they left off the Viper!).

PS What's a BMW Z1? Do they mean M1?

Heres my nomination: a Chevy Chevette. Why you ask? Because after driving this piece of turd, you will then highly appreciate any automobile youll own or drive afterwards. Dont ask me how I know but I still blame the car for me being dateless in four years of high school.

I've driven:

24. Land Rover Series 1
28. Ford Escort Mexico (actually a rally car ...)
35. Ford Sierra Cosworth (great car)
37. Alfa Romeo V6 (lovely motor)
44. Jaguar XJ
45. MGB (classic raced one for a year)
46. Morris Minor

Thus not very many of that list. Interesting list but there are many other cars that are more influential ... but it is getting into opinions ...

If you've never driven a well sorted Lotus Europa, you're missing something. It drives like a go cart which is a blast on the road. Even at only 125 HP that my tweaked Twin Cam develops, you will run out of courage before the car lets go through the twisties. You track guys in particular would appriciate what this car can do. The fact it's not on the list puts all the other choices on there in question.

Interesting!

50 MOTORS YOU SHOULD DRIVE BEFORE YOU DIE
Feb 26 2003, Mirror (UK)
By Tanith Carey, Consumer Editor
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews/page.cfm?objectid=12677186&method=full&

YOU wouldn't normally find a Porsche 911, Sinclair C5, Mini Cooper and
a McLaren F1 sharing top spots on a list of cars.
But they are among 50 motors experts say we should drive at least once
in our lives. A panel of judges decided these vehicles made the
biggest impact when launched and leave motoring memories.
The list, compiled for Auto Express, also includes a Citroen 2CV, new
version Mini, Model T Ford and a London black cab.
Of the original classic Mini Cooper, which came top, the magazine
says: "It's an enduring masterpiece and still a hoot behind the
wheel."
And on inventor Sir Clive Sinclair's C5, it adds: "Everyone should
drive one. It's guaranteed to bring a smile to your face."
Editor David Johns said: "Some think the only criterion for a great
car is speed. Nothing could be further from the truth.
"Outstanding motors can include the slowest, weirdest, cleverest and
coolest."
