In my search I came accross a 1997 355 Spider, yellow/black, 10,000 Miles, Salvage Title ($7,500 damage, finally got the repair order yesterday but too late)for $ 75,000

Also a 355 B, 1997, yellow/black 18K Miles, 30K done, Salvage Title with low repair for $ 68,000 BTW the repair is done, just was nothing major.

Then there is a 355 Spider silver met with navy int 24K Miles, EURO car $ 77,000

1999 F355 Spider F1 tranny, yellow/black, 5K Miles $ 96.000

Actually down here everything open will work.

This is what somebody told me about Bentleys:

"A Bentley is the only car that you can buy CASH and when you trade it in you still owe money!"

I have the following:

F360 Spider, total blast keep both hands on the wheel (no cell phones) Expensive to drive every day

Hummer - open top, lots of fun, not fast, way too noisy to talk on the cell phone.

Porsche 996 Cab, Best all around convertible I have owned, and it has the most room for a tall guy

Used to own a harley with a sidecar, way to difficult to take corners without being able to lean in.

SL55 great car, will probably buy one, love the hard top, but prefer the 996 cab for right now.

Just my 2cents.

Get an SL 55, I have one and the car is fantastic. Faster than almost anything on the road and every option or gadget you could want in an everyday rider.

William, if you dress like Elvis, humm sing out loud "I'm all shook up". Well it seems like the TR would fit the Miami Vice style down there but wear the proper attire and bring partner pacalolo.:-)

If you want a "spyder" , you will have to buy a 1960s/70s era F-car. If a "spider" will do, you can get a 348, 355, 360 or a converted TR.

William,
If the car is not for track and just for city driving, I say go with the 512 TR Spyder..
You already have the 512 and the 512 wide body track car.. YOu have to complete the set with a cruise around town conv't.....

I Envy you pal..

How much are you willing to spend? do you want an impulse cruiser or a casual moderate cruiser? Chopped or stock? Then you can narrow it down real easily. How about a pink conv. Cadillac for the Miami scene! with flamingos by it...

Get a Chrysler Sebring Convertible and take the $100K you save and go to a strip club. Or get a motorcycle with a sidecart if you want attention.

355 spyder is my true vote.

I vote for the Z8, William. Definitely rare, definitely well-made & lovely & cool & fast, and DEFINITELY has a good exhaust note!

Jeffrey: Those aren't "real" GT 40s. The last official GT 40 was chassis # 1114. Those are continuation cars, and not worth anywhere near the money they are asking for them.

SL500 is a beautiful car, but getting way to common just about everywhere. That said, you really cannot go wrong with the SL, it does EVERYTHING well. Others I would give some consideration are the Bentley Arnage(great cruising car), the Aston convertible and the 550 Barchetta. If you really want to stand out a little get a 50's 300 SL.

If you can afford a real GT40 (here is one that sells for 925k$ http://www.me.mtu.edu/~prater/GT40/GT40Classifieds/gt40sidebar.html) just get one of each!

I am far from Miami but aren't Rolls and Bentlys more Miami's style?

If those are your only two choices, go with the TR, definitely... Otherwise, go with Kenny's idea of a Diablo Roadster...

Considering it wasn't for the track, I doubt he would want an Ultima, and kit cars, are well, kit cars... Why get the kit when you can get the real thing?

Do something different, I'm sure everyone has a SL500 in Miami- even though its an absolutely amazing car.

Some nice convertibles to consider:

BMW Z8 (!)
F355 Spyder
Jaguar XJR
Porsche 996 Aero Cab
Lamborghini Diablo Roadster :-)

thinking of getting a new toy just something to cruise around Miami in, not a track car.

Choices are a Testarossa or 512TR spyder or a new MB 500SL. Then again I may just put my 68 Corvette roadster on a trailer this fall if its done by then. She gets maybe 4 mpg, side pipes, roll bar, really more of a race car than a cruiser
