You can join Carfax for $20. You can pull as many reports as you want for three months. All you need is the VIN. I used Carfax extensively when I was shopping for my car. It doesn't tell you everything, but it prompts some questions of the seller. Check the brake and clutch pedals for wear as well as the side of the driver's seat where you enter and exit. A car that has been sitting (neglected) will have stiffer, possibly cracking leather. My car has spark plugs that have not been manufactured for a few years. This confirms the receipt I was given that shows the 30K service was done four years ago and not that many miles have been put on the car since then. Without a service history, you have to assume an older car needs the 30K level service and discount the price of the car accordingly.

With so much being said about ferraris and false mileage, what are some telltale signs of a high mileage auto if you do not have a service history? For instance, If a 1985 308 Qv sat alot in it's lifetime, what would be some signs? If the car was high miles what signs etc......
Thanks
