I drove my Maser this morning in the sno/ice in ice mode. With Traction control/ABS/Semi auto FI ice mode probably used more DRAM than the luner lander.

Remember there's also full automatic mode, too. Other than selecting first gear, total no-brainer, it will downshift for you, just like grandma's Buick.

BTW, when I did our first 360 Challenge test at Putnam Park in 2000, we had a VIP guest there and he commented to me, "For amateurs, these drivers are downshifting fiends, they blip and match revs like pro's!" Then I explained the F1 gearbox and he 'bout fell out of his chair in amazement / laughter.

F1 transmission cars do have clutches, they do not have a clutch pedal though

Thanks for the advice guys! I really appreciate it...

Hubert - the car is at European Collectibles and they let you drive any car they have. I also wanna take a 356 for a spin :-) Just be nice to them, we almost bought an old Porsche from them so they know us and like us. Amost took a few of their old ferraris out but they were sold a few days before I was supposed to drive them...so that didnt work out.
Their website is www.europeancollectibles.com

If it has the latest softwear in stop and go downshift into 1 and down shift again. 1 will flash and you will be in low range 1&R. Use this to park as well.
In sport mode it will double clutch down for you and shift at higher RPM.

Jordan,

N at stops and rolling to a stop. Do not downshift at slow city streets.

Oh yes and for neutral. When you are stopped pull back on both paddles at the same time. For reverse, make sure you are in neutral and with your foot on the brake, pull up on the small 't' handle that is where the gear sick would have been in a manual car. Knowing these two things will make you look like a real pro.

Glad to hear its nothing, I was thinking that without a clutch there would be something else to do while shifting.

One more question, is there a gauge that tells you what gear your in on the dash?

Just stamp on the gas and pull the trigger on the right. Step on the brake, pull the trigger on the left. Steer. Not as fun as an "old time" shifter.

Jordan you are worrying about nothing. The accelerator is on the right and the brake is on the left. Change up with the right paddle and down with the left paddle. There is no magical technique. I am sure you will get a feel for it within 3 shifts. Just enjoy the drive. good luck

Jordan, this is new to me, i was under the impression that F1 transmissioned-cars had clutches, but no sticks, hence the paddles. Glad you raised this question, i'm gonna learn something from it...

Im sure its been asked before, but for some reason im having trouble finding it in the archives.

I might have the opportunity to take a 360 spyder F1 out for a test drive at a dealership here in socal and I am just curious what the proper technique is for driving an F1 car. I know they dont have clutches, so what do you to to shift with the paddles, let off the gas? just shift while gas is in? Also, what about driving them as an automatic? Anything to watch out for?
