Greg,
You don't mention which year, and that is an important factor. In '94 the factory sold 32 "factory challenge" TB's and 13 TS's. To be raced, you still had to install a kit which was sold separately. The kit could also be used on earlier cars. About half the 94's were actually raced and the rest were street only. I owned a TB that was not raced (#18of32) I paid 73K for it 11/98 with 1500 miles on it. Sold it 8/01 for 68K with 16K miles on it and needing service. (I also had the challenge kit with it, mostly not installed) Today, I think the same car would sell for 55-60K. There have been a couple for sale recently in that range. Ones that were actually raced are worth less, probably 10-15K less even if they are all sound mechanically. The earlier years that were raced are worth less still. I think realisticly a well used pre 94 woould sell in the 30's. For track use, I would not even consider a TS.

Exotic Car World has a 348 Challenge car. black/green. Not too expensive either. I saw it in Dallas, but didn't drive it. It has plenty of road rash, but am told it is mechanically sound.

The street going factory Challenge cars (1 of 33 or 50) are probably worth more than the Spiders even. However, a beat up 348 raced Challenge car should be significantly less than a street one. I would say $32-38k. www.exoticcarworld.com has one right now you could probably get for under $40k. It is SCCA legal, newly refreshed motor/trans, but paint is crap, window cracked, and I think front spoiler cracked too. If the 355 deal doesn't work out and I don't want to bite that much off then a 348 like this would be good. Get an average paint job and fix the major cosmetic stuff.

By the way, if you want to live vicariously through the FerrariChat.com 355 Challenge team, become a VIP at track events, get your name or business on the car for 18+ months, and receive your own photograph of the car with your name...

Martin, I do defer to you regarding your expertise with 348's....but here's a question for you. If you feel that a good street Challenge 348 is valued somewhere at $60k, you really feel that you can get a good street 355 (1995 I would say) for around $70k?
waiver: I believe I remember you saying that is what you thought an early 355 was worth. If I'm wrong, my apologies in advance.

What's the history on the car? You're right, generally Challenge is less valuable than street, but there may be a very pampered example out there worth more.

I've had experience with three or four really pristine examples that were campaigned in Challenge, but not beat to death, and when sold were in concourse condition with full documentation and commanded a premium price.

Greg,
the one on eBay???
I bid on it $ 35,000 just for the heck. I honestly would not pay more as a dealer for this car. This car will likely never be able to drive properly on the road again. Too many racing options. Makes a great club racer if you ask me but for street not a good choice.

Look at the car Byron bought from me. That wasa street car, transformed to Challenge, raced 3 times and re-transformed back to street. The cost of a transformation is very expensive and will eat up all the possible profits.

Sicne this is a true one of Challenge cars it will have a little more value but this car has an extensive racing history so it is worn and probably not as good as a less raced car. Face it, you track them they wear.

A good street Challenge one of will be valued somewhere at $60K.

I was looking at a 348 Challenge. It has been raced, supposedly build from fatory as a Challenge car. Approx. 9K miles on it. I was under the impression that a 348 challenge was worth less than a stock 348. Also I imagine they aren't easy to resell. I found a few stock 348s for $40-$43K with ~40K on their clocks. He wants $45K for this challenge and it doesn't have all of the books/repair records etc. I don't see this car being worth more than $40K. What do you guys think?
