Go for it...I love Lambos-especially the new Murcielago-I hear great things about that car, my girfriends brother drove one at Prestige Imports when he was working there Quote: "the best exotic car out there!" Get the roadster-you will not regret it!

Hi Martin,

10 Lamborghinis,,,amazing. You are right...the gent lives in the Pinnacle. Incredible. He probably got most of the cars from your favorite dealership...Prestige. :-)

I personally could only get a Roadster. More headroom for some reason. I also like the fact you can store the top on the engine bay, not behind the seat like in my F, which is not an option if you are taller than 4'5''

Sorry no more pictures. I know...:-(

Howie,
that guy with the 4-5 actually has 10 as far as I know. He has 6-7 here in Miami and keep 3 in New York. Some retired stock broker. He bought a PH in the Pinnacle. I know the broker that brokered that deal for him.

The yellow on in the picture is in Aventura and the blue is in Golden Beach.

Boy I sure would not buy a car based on votes online...
I would have to drive it first.
And I have no experience with the Diablo,
Only the Countach,
and while I always drooled over the Countach in my younger days,
when I drove it and found out service and parts costs, The smart side of my brain kicked in and told me, NAAA

I find the looks of the newer Lambos like very sweet candy.
Too much makes my tummy hurt...
My Fav. Lambo has to be.... The Miura!
First car to ever be dubed, Supercar.

Alright, I know I'm just a kid and opinions are like aholes, but I think the SVs are the hottest Lambos. The 6.0VT I also think are cool, but the SVs just take that wild side to the limit IMO. Just my $.02

Modman,

I fully agree the 1999 model year Diablo is the one the get. The styling is superior to the 6.0. There is a gent here in Miami Beach that owns 5 or 6 Lambroghinis. I saw four of them, is single file, heading towards South Beach one sunny Saturday afternoon. 1 silver, 1 black, 1 chiarro blue Diablos, and bringing up the rear, a yellow Murcielago.

The 99 Diablo in any flavor is my favorite car. Very throaty exhaust note, and relatively easy to drive. The only drawbacks I noted were the rake of the windshield, making the interior very warm on
hot days and only fair rear visibility. Otherwise, a fantastic performer and more exotic than most
Ferraris.

I say go for it. If you dislike it, you can always sell it; you're not married to the car, but you just may want to be.

Articles on the Murcielago are coming out in the car rags. It sounds like VW ownership is having a positive influence on design and engineering.

I think the roadster look weird. You might be better off getting a Diablo SE30. It's more collectible.

Tim, the roadsters are all wheel drive and I would only drive it on sunny days so the top would be off anyway. SV has the scoops on top. I used to hate the look of the roadster when it first came out but seeing it in person with the top off gave me a different view of the car plus you get to hear the roaring sound of the exhaust.

I personally think the roadsters look a bit ugly with the top not in the open posistion. I personally would get a VT because i wouldnt trust myself with all that power going to 2 wheels, but i'd get it in hardtop. Does the SV have the 2 intakes on the roof? those look cool.

DON'T buy a Diablo Roadster..... a Miami Vice 80's sun trap that looks weird too... I hate it.

Get an SV, a 6.0 or a GT - proper cars for drivers - NOT POSEURS.

I drove a 2000 VT a bit. I have NO idea why some people don't like them (driving them). That car could EASILY be driven everyday. VERY easy to drive, the worst thing about it was changing lanes in traffic. After a little practice youll find its pretty easy, just accelerate and move over. I would definatly get it. You only live once!

Hey Martin, I tried that number you gave but it's busy after 3 tries, they must be very busy at the moment. I called Al Burtoni and they said the Diablo's are just as reliable as my 348 and the maintenance is pretty much the same routine as a V12 Ferrari and I'm not worried of the maintenace cost but the reliability of it. And as far as too over moderened with too much computer operated systems running in the car gives me headaches from prior and present experience and sometimes old ways are not too bad in mechanical design. Sometimes complexity is just to complex, know what I mean.. Peace... off to go back to work, check back later..

For the kind of money a Diablo takes or any later model Ferrari we should expect NSX quality. But wait, they have only been building that car since 91!! No exotic has been known for anything remotely resembling true quality until recently. Get the Diablo and forget such things. Its handmade, Italian exotic fun. We can't always sweat the quality/value equation in every single purchase we make. Go for it and enjoy the ride. Hope the one you get makes you happy. Keep us posted as alot of us wont have the opportunity to be so bold. Im wayyyyyyy happy for you... :-)

Nice pics Martin, I'll call when I have the opportunity. And as far as the car being a truck disguised as a spaceship would not be the proper term and I'm not looking at a 94 model. 99 is more refined and better yet 01 model. It is between those 2 years I'm looking at and not the prior years which I don't care for but thanks for some input. Keep it rollin'...

We were at a car show Saturday and my mechanic is a Lambo trained mechanic so most of his customers showed up. One has a chairo blue with sand int. A 19 year old kid. Nice guy. He drives the car almost daily. Call up my mechanic Murry Bacchus (954) 981-5737 and ask him for Loyds phone number and explain him that I sent you and what questions you have. he will answer some for you as well. He is very very knowledgable on Lambos.

Build quality and engineering on all Lambos (Murcielago still an unknown) is 20 years behind the times. Ferrari far more sophisticated. I had the opportunity recently to watch a '94 Lambo being serviced, and was told in no uncertain terms by the mechanic (who does my Ferraris)to forget about buying one unless I had money to burn. He then showed me specific mechanical items that were antique in design and execution. Yes they look great, but if you have to live with one you better have 10 other toys around to play with.

For that kind of money I would expect sophisticated engineering and handling, not a truck disguised as a spaceship.

You guys are very inspiring and it's tempting me even more. I did just a tad more research on the 01 Diablo but don't really like the body style that much vs. the 99. I don't like the back end or the wheels that much but the interior is much more modern. Can you guys help me on this research, my time runs a little short due to my schedule and the dealer selling the car is fed exing the paperwork to me and I've already seen the car in person and the only thing left to see is the car records of service.

Just do it! I drove a 98 SV and have roadster time as well. Its like asking me if Id fly the F15 or not. Who cares what we think in the long run :-) If I had the money I would have one now. Power, looks and fun. Life is to be lived. GET IT :-)

There is one I see here in Indy, and Mr Brian Stewart who is on this chat has worked on the car, I would ask him about the cars, Keep in mind I think the owner of the car abuses it. They look very radical, I would take me a long time to get over parking anxiety.

I think it would be a good choice even for the experience. As long as you know how they are etc. you will have a great time and a great car.

Marcus, buying the Diablo roadster is like buying any other car that makes your heart beat faster and you dream of being behind the wheel. It's that burning that has to be satisfied. If you want it that bad and it meets your qualifications then buy that bad boy. A simple but honest opinion. Brgds,

I have driven a VT Diablo coupe and it doesn't sound as good as my Ferrari or as nimble but it sure turns heads everywhere. After seeing the movie Exit wounds with the roadster Diablo, it sure looked pretty damn sharp. Of course this type of purchase would be for the full experience and in time I can give full judgement on this car cause I do drive my cars the way they were made to be driven.

I have a fun book called 'dream cars' which has a bunch of pictures/reviews of various super cars. The comment regarding the comparison of the VT Roadsters and SV's was something like "there are people who like to drive and people who like to be seen driving" - with the further insight that lamborghini would be forced to end up with "cars people like to drive". I had all this in mind when one of my friends - who had a '99 red VT Roadster gave me a bit of a zoom around town. I would put the experience as "more invigorating than a porsche", but less finesse-demanded than a ferrari. Now I don't know if the SV would be much different. The car was certainly quick, even in the wet with a pinge of AWD. I didn't drive the car (nor did I own it), but the car certainly had a few miles on it. The only thing I can remember it being in the shop for was when someone broke in to steal the radio. ;)

I spotted a 99 blue Chiaro Diablo roadster which is the last year made and I would like to know if anyone knows of someone who has any experience of owning one. I am seriously in heavy thought of purchasing one real soon, if most of the votes turn up to be yes then I just might do it.
