Lee,

I meant to ask you. Did the rental have any kind of governor on it?

I saw a picture of your car in your profile, I like it! It looks great!

Good God; in Vegas the 355 is $749/day for 100 miles, and the 360 is like $1200. I went for the 348 at $399/day for 100 miles.

Of course, that's the land of the $1 Becks and $7 buffets, but I didn't think that discount mentality would apply to exotic rentals, but maybe so.

Anyway, if you're in Vegas, the guys at Rent-A-Vette were great (www.rent-a-vette.com, no affiliation); highly recommended. The owner's a Ferrari guy, so it's partially a labor of love, but I'm sure he does OK. The weekend I was there, he was pretty thrilled; all the highline cars were out (the 355, 360, 348, Vipers and Corvettes).

They just got a 360 Spider as well, for like $1600/day.

I don't know. You must look great. My cars never attract any crown in the street of SoBe.
Maybe yellow does the trick.

Nice story.

A diablo producing an inferior driving experience to a 355?

I love ferraris, and I don't want another Ferrari vs. Lamborghini thread, but I'm afraid I must object.

Mice story, I would have expected the Lambo to produce an inferior driving experience.

Paul,

I do south beach at least 2 times a year. Just came back two weeks ago. You're right that there are a lot of exotics running around down there, but they never stop attracting a crowd.

Speaking of Miami....

Kind of long but 100% true.

I retired a couple of years ago at 37, and no, I'm not rich but I busted my ass (can I say that) for about 20 years and set myself up pretty well. So when a friend called me up last March on a Wednesday and asked if I wanted to fly to South Beach on Thursday, the next day, for the weekend, I said yeah, lets do it. Thursday night was pretty uneventful, it was raining, but we went out and had a good time. Friday was beautiful. We had a great hotel room at the Bentley on Ocean Dr. with a balcony overlooking the street and the ocean. As soon as I woke up, my friend was bugging me that we should rent a Ferrari for the weekend. He worked out a deal with the rental company (after 3 hours of haggling) that we could get a yellow 97 355 Spider thru Sunday for 1400.00 total. We were out on the beach and I didn't want to be bothered with the responsibility of keeping a Ferrari safe for a weekend, and I had the EXACT same car at home, it would be no big deal to me, so I kept resisting until I got sick of his bugging me and gave in. This guy is all "bling-bling" and I kind of shy away from attention. The car pulled up to the hotel, driven by an employee of the rental company, and instantly drew a crowd, which shocked me, I thought it was commonplace in South Beach to see Ferraris. The car looked great from a distance but was pretty ratty when I got into it. We signed all the papers and took off. We drove around for about an hour, were actually having a really good time, then we see the same employee driving a red Diablo coming the other way on Ocean Dr. We both stopped in the middle of traffic, and I said "hey man, you gotta let me take that car for a spin" but he said no, he would get into trouble, he couldn't do it, blah, blah, blah, then I said "I'll give you a hundred dollars" and he said "OKAY." So I told my friend just to wait in the car on the side of the road, and he started complaining and said "at least keep the car running so I don't look like a goof." So I got in the Diablo and took off toward the highway with the employee. He asked me about my friend using the car, because I was the one who signed the papers, and I told him, "don't worry, he doesn't know how to drive a stick, he is just waiting in the car," which was the truth. On the way to the highway, I realised that this was probably the biggest pile of junk I had ever driven. It had about 25,000 miles on the odometer ( a 94 ) and was in sad shape, the motor was off song, the whole dash would shake with the cowl on any bumps. We finally get to the highway, so I tried to open it up, but like I said the motor was sick and the 355 would have eaten it up on the highway. So the guy was telling me that they just bought the car and nobody had rented it yet, and I was telling him everything wrong with the car, then he told me to that we had to get off on the next exit. So I'm in the far left lane, craning my neck and body trying to see out of that thing so I could move to right, and unbeknown to me, the car was drifting to the left. I then heard a TERRIBLE grinding noise and instantly jerked the car to the right. I looked over to the employee and he was visibly shocked, and said "OH MY GOD" with a look of fear that I would never forget! I tried to ease his mind and told him that I would take care of any damages and that I was a man of my word, so he settled down. We headed back to Ocean Drive. As we got toward where the 355 was parked, I saw that it wasn't there! I pulled to the side of the road and asked the employee if this was where we had left the car and he gulped and said "I think so." After about 30 seconds my friend, who really had never driven a stick before, pulled up. I said "what are you doing" and he said he was tired of waiting and tried to drive the car, and succeeded, after a few tries, to get it moving. The look of horror reappeared on the poor guys face. I swung the door open, expecting to see the whole side of the car trashed, but there was no damage. The employee came around and was shocked to see no damage as well. I then noticed that the bottom of the drivers side mirror was scraped badly. You could only see it with the door open. The bottom of the mirror must have lined up at the exact same height of the top of the guard rail and made that noise, which saved me from trashing the whole side of the car! If the mirror was just a quarter of an inch higher the whole side of the car would have been damaged! The employee was so shaken by the whole ordeal that he pleaded with me not to tell his boss, and that if the owner noticed the mirror that he would say he didn't know anything about it. So we shook hands, and he took off in the Diablo and I left in the 355. I'll spare you all of the details of the rest of the weekend, but Friday night and Saturday turned out to be a blast, all bling-blinging, popping bottles and hot latino girls!

I love that place!

Miami is funny like that. It's amazing how after a couple days in South Beach, $8 for a beer seems perfectly reasonable.

In Miami, the land of flash, it'll be cool to have your car with out of state plates. People won't think it's a rental, which is common over there.

RESPECT!! :-)

The going rate for a 355 is about $1,100 per day, the 360 is twice that. Plus $$ for miles over 50.

So, depending upon how long you will be here, it actually may cost less to ship yours. (scary isn't it???)

Yeah, its probably cheaper to have your car transported over there for your use and then sent back home when you return.

Don't bother.

Expect to pay at least 1100 dollars or more. I have not anything less then that, espicially for the 360. Good luck!

Where is the best place to rent a Ferrari 360 or 355 for a weekend in Miami and what is the going rate now?
