Brett,

You don't luv Ferrari F1 enough :-)

I just finished driving my GT4 4,500 kms round trip to the Aussie GP and never had one thing go wrong with it.

Always nice to be able to drive to a GP in a Ferrari (even if we didn't win :-() and the further the drive the better :-)

The funny thing was that one of my mates who lives in Melbourne where the GP was has a 360 which broke down on the way to the track :-(

Told him I'd trade :-)

Has anyone seen Jeremey Clarkson's (from TopGear) DVD - "Head To Head"? There's a part where they do a race between a Ford cougar, a Ford focus rally race car, and a stewart-Ford F1 car. It's very similar to the video posted here, but much better.

You will find pictures of an F-50 GT on the DVD that Duke produced and is titled 50 years of Ferrari. There is another discussion on this DVD. My all time favorite Ferrari DVD!!

"The Enzo wouldnt stand a chance against the F50 GT.
Its lighter (980 kgs vs 1360 kgs ) , has more power ( 720 hp vs 660 hp )."

The F50 GT's specs are even more impressive:
750 HP @ 10,500 rpm
weight without oil, water, fuel : 817 kg (1801 lbs)
weight with oil, water, fuel : 907 kg (2000 lbs)
376 km/h (233.5 mph)
0-60 mph : 2.8 sec

Oh, it also makes an awesome sound. I have 2 videos of it on a track (taken from an F355) and the sound of this monster V12 gave me goosebumps.

I just would like to see Ferrari race sports cars again period, I don't care with what. I mean to run a competent sports car program would be a mere fraction of their F1 budget. At the very least supply Maranello technical backing, etc. to privateers. F1 is cool as hell, but it never comes near me (closest is 8+ hours to Montreal) and I don't drive an F1 car. It would be nice to see something I can actually relate to, something I work on everyday, something that vaguely resembles my sports car. Damn Ferrari.

I'd like to see an Enzo racer... even lighter, slicks, true sequential etc... even more downforce... Would be cool...

Does anybody have any pics of the interior of the F50 GT to post?

F50GT has a true sequential (think Indy500 or ALMS push/pull lever) 6-sp Xtrac gearbox. It is unsyncro'd, and will execute shifts much faster than even our 'F1' tranny ferrari road cars (with syncros) ever will. The box has but one shift setting "BAM!" (and I'm sure it feels just like that when you pull an upshift and 10,500rpm is slamed into an input shaft now doing about 7grand, like, NOW.)

The car also has a 3-puck carbon clutch. (also think indy car...) It won't slip.

Classy it ain't, it's a dedicated race car. (and not even a little street legal either, it should be noted. Though I'd be more than willing to try... :-)

Come on guys, 0-60 is 2.8sec or so. That's superbike-eating territory. 0-100 is probally just about as quick too. the 60-120mph speed must be absolutely devistating.

You know, all these straight line numers have me thinking. I'd love to see one of these cars pull a run at a drag strip (be hard keeping the tyres warm, but still.) Just for the sheer hell of it. Probally 9-something seconds at around 150. Be very very funny.

I mean don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore both cars (and the roadgoing F50 too!) but, this thing has nearly the power-weight ratio of an F1 car.

Best!
Ben.

Class. Can we say F1 shifting..

Won't that advantage help the ENZO over the F50 GT.

The F50 GT would RUN away from the Enzo, go find your daughter, take her out to dinner, have his way, and be back before you knew anything was ammis...

Seriously, 750bhp in *1,800lbs* on slicks versus 660hp in close to 3,000lbs on street rubber.

You do the math. It isn't hard.

What's more intresting would be the speed of the F50GT versus the Ferrari F1 car. F1 would win easy, but it might be close enough (on the right track) to be intresting. (at least, closer than this:-) http://www.dreamwithyoureyeswideopen.com/ferrarichat/F1-ClasA-500-compar.mpeg

Best!
Ben.

What about if it was driven by some guy with no racecar experience? It would probably be quite a handfull.

The F50 GT1 would leave an Enzo for dust, and it also has a sound to die for.

The F50 GT was said to be 8 sec faster than a 355 challenge around fiorano without any developpement .A 355 Challenge laps firoano in 1.26 , so that would put the F50 GT at 1.18 . The current record is held by MS with the F2003GA at around 58 sec i think...

Ok So what about a Formula 1 car to the F50 GT. How much slower is the F50. LOL. Thanks for the answers. Just trying to get in my mind how fast this thing really is compared to other cars.

The F50GT is a full blown race car, running on race fuel, race suspension, etc. Nothing street legal is gonna touch that.

Same thing , the F50 GT would destroy the Mclaren F1 . And probably the F1 LM / GTR as well. The F40 GTE proved several time faster than the F1 GTR during the BPR championship and the F50 GT is said to be much faster than the F40 GTE .
IMO the regular Mclaren F1 wouldnt stand a chance against the Enzo on a track. The Enzo has much more downforce and those awesome brakes.

Wow... i thought it was be the other way around... i figured it would be a close match, but that the Enzo would emerge the performance and speed victor... Hmph... go figure...

That's what I figured. It would still be a sight to see. I wonder if Art is going to get one.

I'm not really sure but it would definately be a sight to see. The slicks on the F50 GT would definately give it a big advantage. I would not be suprised if the Enzo was faster around a race track than the F50GT if a regular, non-pro driver was behind the wheel.

Which of these two cars is faster? I know the F50 is a race car but I was just curious how the two compare as far as acceleration and handling. I'd love to see the two on a track together but I imagine the F50 would edge it out...right?
