Didnt get a chance to read the whole post, but the sun valley/ketcham area is nice. For the record, sun valley was the first place i ever ate sushi not made by an asian sushi chef. I was concerned with the freshness (as you shoud always be when eating sushi), as idaho isnt exacly close to oceans, but the fish was fresh. Nice roads around there too. Mostly open though. My father and i did a big loop from boise, to mtn home to twin falls to sun valley then back to boise, where we cought our flight to stanley, ID. |

Al, that's so awesome- even more so that you let your son drive... Very cool... "To my son Alfie, who made the trip the best ever!!" That's priceless- you must be one cool dad... Congratulations on your new Ferrari, i hope both of you enjoy it, as that already seems to be the case... Alfie, congratulations, sounds like you had a blast... |

I am writing this long post to share my moments with all of you and particularly the following group, if you are out there: 1. Persons lurking on the edge of the World of Ferrari and thinking about an F car as I was. 2. Persons thinking of upgrading to a newer F car. 3. I am sure there are none of this group out there, but just in case, those who dont put miles on their F car or do not take road trips with the F car (shame on you). 4. To my son Alfie, who made the trip the best ever!! Background and the players: Al LaPeter AKA the DAD. Prior owner of two F cars, but last one was 15 years ago. Al was the co-pilot and back-up driver. Alfie LaPeter AKA the ACE, 22 years old, college senior, race car nut and primary driver. The Goal- pickup a new 1996 355 spider in Mailbu, CA and deliver it to Sun Valley. Idaho. Stops enroute- Anaheim Hills and Hillsborough, California, the 360 Challenge race north of SFO, Boise, ID and home. This is my attempt at the short version of this trip. Also worth noting that both parties have never seen a 355 spider in person ever. Here are the highlights. We pull into Mike Kleins driveway (the seller) in Malibu and actually see the car for the first time- WOW!!! We both thought it was a work of art. It is Red/tan 17,000 miles and a US car. Mike and I joked that we negotiated long and hard and that I had not seen the car. If I had seen the car my emotions would have kicked in. You know how to finish that sentence. Words cannot describe this car, nuff said. About sunset we leave Malibu for the two hour drive to Anaheim Hills. Alfie was the first driver and I am glad, I was a little nervous. One of our F chat members mentioned tunnels, oh my God!! Going south on Pacific Coast Highway we go through the first tunnel, the Ace downshifts into second, hit 8000 rpm and the music was fantastic. The Ace is quite a driver and it wasnt inherited. Top was down for over 1200 miles with perfect weather. Even the bumper to bumper traffic was fun. We arrive at my brothers home Thurs evening. My brother drives the car through the hills and he is good in a Ferrari. Friday AM we go to DC Motors in Anaheim Hills and they have a 2001 360 spider, yellow/black F1. My brother knows the guy there and they let me test drive the 360. Another moment on the streets of So Cal. Im already looking forward to my next Ferrari, I can hardly wait!! Late that afternoon Alfie takes my nephew (nine), niece (13) and a couple of their friends through the streets of Anaheim Hills. My brother and I are sitting by the pool drinking champagne and listening to car all over the neighborhood. More music to my ears. I wonder if the neighborhood will ever be the same. Sat AM we leave la for SFO via 101 to San Luis Obispo then Highway One through Big Sur and on to Hillsborough and Alfie drove most of the way. The look on his face driving along the coast was priceless. Life just couldnt get any sweeter!! Weather was clear all the way and a memory that will not be forgotten. This is such a long post, I am going to do it in two parts. Stay tuned for part II and news at 11.
