http://www.red-headed.com Check "Articles", then the last one ("Decoding VIN"). This is more complete than all the other ones. |

DES, not salvaged, just involved in a major accident. It was my P-car. Car fax came up clean despite the fact that the accident was reported to both insurance companies as well as the DMV. |

Eric, thanks- that first link you posted gives you access to unlimited VIN information for $23.95 (single report is $18.95) for 60 days, as opposed to carfax, which i believe is only 30 days... i think it was Lord Ausbrooks who mentioned not too long ago that he put in a VIN on carfax and knew that the car had been salvaged and it never showed up on carfax... Eric, are there any sites that have Vin decoding for regular, everyday cars...? The middle link is for classic cars, with a limited selection and the first & last ones seem to only allow VIN reports, etc... In any case, thanks for the links, i appreciate it... |

There is also and excellent one in Volume 26 no. 2, January 2001 of the Ferrari Market letter. It takes two full pages to fully explain how to read one. www.ferrarimarketletter.com |

I had a link on expensivecar.com that had information on how to decode VIN numbers. The link no longer works and I was wondering if anyone else had the info on how to decode the VINs. Thanks my |
