Thanks for the responses so far. My 308 is a toy and when I drive it(5-6 times monthly), I really drive it. There does not seem to be enough side bolster to keep me comfortably in place. The appearence is not the factor at hand. Also, my car is a GTS, so this isn't for competition reasons. Do any of you 308 owners have these seats in your car? If so, I would certainly like to see how they fit. Thanks

You guys have got to sit in Recaro's carbon race seat, it's by far the best (and most expensive). Totally supportive, totally communicative, totally comfortable.

When I build an endurance car, I always recommend the Recaro.

And, BTW, they also make a nice compromise seat with the harness holes, full upholstery, tilt, just not as light.

Mike,
switch out the seats if you go to track events. Also put a 5 point harness in there, you will need that more than anything.
I would not want to drive daily with racing seats. In and out is a bit*h.

If you do the track you need the seats. They hold you in better so you can drive the car. They are safer becasue they have holes for the 5-6 piont harness. They are a must have. Also just buy one. A passenger just upsets your concentration and adds weight to your car. Sick with carbon fibre better yet buy a 348 challenge seat. These seats are amazingly light and you will feel the difference with a challenge seat and no passenger seat. Also if you are tall you can get the challenge seat to sit lower in the cockpit for some head room when you wear the helmet

Bret- The Milanos are decent, and leather covered. Ferrari OEs some very nice carbon backed, reclinable, leather 'race-like' seats.

IMO they're a great split between an all out stiff-back, and a conventional seat, for the road and track (dual-purpose cars.)

Also, you do not need to GO FAST to benefit from race seats at all. All you must do is turn hard, which the 308 certinly can do.

In my car with only a mere 140hp (heh) on tap, my biggest problem for some time was literally keeping my ass off the door pannel.

Best!
Ben.

One thing I do like is the racing (like) seats option on the newer cars. Sparco makes a nice seat with some Italian name, Milano maybe, which is a nice light, leather seat with a racing design. If my seats were shot or I was hell bent on replacing them I would do something like that. OMP is Ferrari's supplier so it would be interesting to see what they have too. A seat like the Sparco one is nice because you could use the 3 point and look alright or you could swap to 5 point if you ever wanted. I personally feel that full blown racing seats are not very comfortable, a pain to get out of (remember I'm only 20 years old), and only come in cloth, so not such a great choice for a street car. But, the stock 308 seats don't breath at all and it is kind of annoying having your back get wet on long drives during summer days.

I've been thinking about putting race seats into my 308, but there isn't much of a justification: The original seats are very comfy (I think) and if you want to have the racing seats for looks (which IMHO is a good enough reason) you should also have the 5 point harnesses or it looks dopey. Well put those on a couple of times and you'll soon loose interest in the idea.

The only real reasons I could think of is weight loss (of the car, hehe). But you probably loose more if you toss that stupid spare tire.

Save your money and update the shitty ignition system to something like an electromotive HPX instead for about the same price. Does any 308 really go fast enough to warrant racing seats? Just my $.02, I don't think racing seats are really worth it in any street car short of an F40, F50, etc. of which you need it just for the principle.

How many of you have racing seats in your 308? This seems to be unwarranted for going to Mc Donalds, but might be fun for track days.
Any thoughts, or pics?
Thanks
Mike
