Wait a sec, your bio says that you're in the exotic auto business, and yet you ask whether Ferrari has ever built an SUV?! Actually, I'm sure that the good boys in Maranello are all smiling and patting each other on the backs for not having been tempted into the market after seeing the "lovely" Cayenne that Porsche is trying to force down its loyalists' throats for a mere $80K. |

You guys call yourselves "ferraristi", what a joke!! A true tifosi would remember the La Forza off-road vehicle that was made before the term "SUV" was even thought of. Yes, Ferrari was involved heavily, and a few years back there was a buyer of the remaining chassis that resold them with Ford explorer engines. |

Remember one time Lambo built an SUV and ditch to the ground. Let the Mercedes Benz make a true SUV: The G-Wagon

Found it - Road & Track, May 1986, pages 116-7. "Ferrari's new 328" on the cover. |

David W: I DO remember the same ad you are referring to. I'm a little fuzzy on the details too, but I think there was a red testarossa next to the red Volvo wagon. I don't think anyone would confuse the Volvo for the Ferrari, though. I've got Road & Tracks from the 80's, the ad is probably in one of those issues. Give me a month or two and I'll see if I can find it!! |

I'm sure you know about this, but Pininfarina did build a number (about 10) of 456 4-doors and "estates" as they call them in England (Wagon). These mostly went to the Sultan of Brunei - see the following weblink: http://www.geocities.com/sul288us/

IMO this is about as close as Ferrari will EVER get to putting the precious prancing horse on anything remotly resembling a truck...
hopefully, they agree... Grant |

Since Ferrari owns Maserati, wouldn't a Maserati SUV be a Ferari with a Maserati badge kinda like a Dino is a Ferrari with a Ferrari badge ? |

I seem to remember a commercial with a red Volvo turbo or somemthing like that and the ad said "If Ferrari built a wagon this it what it would be." I am sure my memory is clouded about the details of the ad or maybe even the exact quote, so if your memory is really bad someone could be confused about the ad thinking Ferrari had actually built it. |

Maserati will soon be releasing a "wagon" that the Ferrari dealer termed "an SUV". Getting too close for comfort, IMO! ;) |

The only connection that can be drawn between the La FOrza and Ferrari is that Pininfarina designed the body. If you even call that connected, if so we have to consider the Casio G-Shock Limited Edition a Ferrari watch, and Ferrari would also have a connection with a whole bunch of Fiats, Alfas, a Austin-Healey and a Cadillac, just to name a few...oh and stereo speekers, and kitchen cabinets too. |

Don't forget Bill Harrah's "Jerrari", from 1971. The engine and front end from a Ferrari 365GT 2+2 grafted onto a Jeep Wagoneer. |

Ferrari has competed in a few races over some pretty iffy roads. The PanAmerican Race in Mexico which after 8 people were killed in one race was ended. The Monte Rally parts of which were run in the snow. I believe the 288 GTO was considered for rallying (Like the P 959) They haven't yet raced Paris to Dakar but they might try with a Kubang which is a SUV/Wagon. Lambo has made a SUV and has plans to make another one. P as you know has the Cayanne. Rallying is probably the most popular form of racing worldwide so its not impossible Ferrari would compete in rallying again with Maserati. |

Nope, no SUV to my knowledge unless it was a one-off for the Sultan or something. Never for the mass-market. Maserati is considering the Kubang I believe. |
