I second that...go both years! I haven't missed in a while and while I thought it may get boring, it never seems to. Shipping the TCab down as well this year...too many wasted roads in those parts. - JMG |

You folks may want to consider waiting until next year when Ferrari will again be the featured Marque and will be combined with the FCA National Meet. I went in 1994 and 1200 F Cars showed up and it was almost an overdose. I understand the track session will be at Sears Point not Leguna Seca. Or better yet, go both years. |

I go down every year WIlliam and my schedule is fairly similar to L. Wayne's. I really enjoy my time at Laguna Seca as it is a chance to meet with owners that drive their cars and really get background info on the cars. Sometimes we head over early on Sunday and then head to Pebble. This works best if you have reserved parking at Pebble as you can end up a long way out via shuttle if you are late. I also understand that FNA is sponsoring some sort of run between Utah and Monterey over three days leading to CI. I am going to stop in at FoS and get more details next week. - JMG |

I've always gone the "ghetto" route (save once). Never got the VIP tickets. All you get is buffet and stuff like that. With so many cars to see, who has time for lunch?! The historic races are fantastic. An absolute must. I can't begin to explain the sounds you'll hear. Old legends clearing their throats on the track. If you have sensitive ears, bring earplugs though. Seeing 250 LM's, 275 GTBs, Monzas, blah blah blah... Something everyone should do at least once. You won't regret it. The features for the 53rd annual Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance will be Bugatti and Ford's 100th Anniversary. How can you say no! |

I've thought about trying to use my association with VelocePress to at least attend one of the "unseen" events. Last year it got me decent food and drink at Laguna Seca and, get this, I had my meal on the hood of a 250 SWB. |

L. Wayne: Why couldn't you qualify as a journalist or historian for the purpose of getting in, where others fear to tread (sorry)? |

Jim, I didn't think about the MkIV needing to maintain speed to keep cool! Ha! There's a bunch of pre-war jalopies on that tour as well! I'm sure they have to run two groups. Also, I'm sure you'll be invited to some functions that the rest of us mortals will not be. Check out the VeloceToday links I posted below. Especially this one: http://www.velocetoday.com/events/events_25.php

WM, Taek and Everyone Else I've never been but I'm sure I'll get the info soon. From what I understand the weekend before there's the pre historics at Luguna Seca. On Thursday there's the parade which depending on the speed they maintain ( I need at least 40MPH adverage or I'll cook) I'll go. There's a Christies Auction, Several other auctions, The concourse Italiaono. A new event at Quail Lodge which includes a hill climb. PB. And the Historics. Others please chime in. I think the least the left coasters could do is arrange a get together! I'm up for anything. |

Usually it's something like this: Friday morning/day: Concorso Italiano Friday evening: RM Auction Saturday morning/day: Races Saturday evening: either more RM or B&B, whichever strikes my fancy Sunday morning/day: Concours d'Elegance Sunday evening: Christie's auction In between is a lot of drinking/talking cars at the various watering holes. Here's a list of what's going on: http://www.festorics.org/info/weekend_events.html And here's what really goes on: Part I: http://www.velocetoday.com/events/events_24.php Part II: http://www.velocetoday.com/events/events_25.php Part III: http://www.velocetoday.com/events/events_26.php |

We should schedule some sort of get-together the day before or something. There are a lot of events so it depends on what your tastes are like. Anyone up to meeting up prior to the big show? I won't mind doing the administrative stuff like reservations and stuff. I've gone a bunch of times. As a matter of fact, I proposed to my wife during the Bentley celebration in the historic races. There are some fantastic events no car nut should miss. It'll be interesting to meet some of you in person! Checking out Glickenhaus' GT40 will be worth the trip. |

OK, Jim's posting about being invited provoked me. Life is short. I keep saying i will go. So i will. But, what's the inside track, the skinny, the poop? What events are worthwhile, and which are a waste of time. I know there is a parade of cars on 17 mile drive, there is the PB concours, there is the italian concourso, there is vintage racing, there are several auctions, etc. Is there one package to register for all? I have my preferred lodging in Big Sur, but all else is open for insight from those who have done this before. What say you, all? |
