I love the LM. My little story: when Butch Dennison was finishing up the restoration on Greg Whitten's LM, he came by my workplace and said, "Jeff, we've got it all done, it's ready to run on the track, but the slave cylinder for the clutch has gone out, and I just can't find a new seal for it. I've tried everybody. Does this look familiar to you?" I gave him the key to my house and said, "Look in the box in my upstairs office." He came back in about 30 minutes with a big grin on his face and two of the seals in his hand. They're the same as Lancia Appia brake master cylinder seals. Woohoo!! |

I think the person who told me the one in the Indy museam wasn't the winner was refering to the GT40 MKII in the museam which isn't the 66 winner but a clone of the winner. (I believe George Stauffer owns the real 66 winner) If the 275 LM in the museam is 5893 it is the winner. 6313 may have confused the issue as well. I may have confused the two cars as well. Sorry. |

Maybe you are talking about the controversy over a car Andrian Hamilton had for sale. I missed the article in Cavallino, but there is mention in the letter section of issue 128 about the fact that Hamilton discovered that the 250 LM he had (chassis # 6313)was the actual car that finished 2nd in the 1965 LeMans. Her is the copy from Duncan Hamilton & Co.s print ad: 1965 Ferrari 250 LM Chassis No. 6313. After careful and intense investigation it has been confirmed that this car is the ex-Ecurie Francorchamps Team Car that finished 2nd overall in the 1965 Le Mans 24-Hour Race, driven by Dumay and Gosselin. A great car with a wonderful history and in fully restored condition. Available immediately. |

Sorry gents, I hate to say it but I don't know anything about a controversy surrounding s/n 5893 being the 1965 Le Mans winner. There are, however, many questionable 250 LMs out there. There are now something like 38 "authentic" LMs, where only 32 were originally built! |

Jim G. in the "only one" thread made the statement that the 275LM (5893) that is at the Indy Museum was not the one that won Le Mans in 1965 as they claim. Could you shed more light on the subject? |
