Frank,

I know its bitter-sweet, but I'm glad that you were able to sell the car, since I know you had indicated it was "time."

Just look at it this way: you've made another individual very, very happy!!

Regards.

Just a quick point from someone who did lots of research before buying a very late '01 550. You've got to remember that '97s are now going on 6 yeara old, and price points are significantly different from later cars. Therefore, that whole "550s under $100K in next few months" thing is a little ridiculous. What year 550? How many miles? Any "stories?"
Similarly, EURO cars don't command as much $ as to USA cars.
Use the Stebro center section, and mufflerless Tubi rear sections, and the 550 begins to approach the Daytona in terms of sound appeal. Daytona will certainly be a hedge against depreciation, while the 550 is much, much faster. Can't go wrong either way. A wonderful choice to have!! As that old Ferrari poster of the woman's silhouette, the bottle of wine and the 308 said, "Decisions, Decisions!"

Dr Shelbee:

Please don't mention the stock market!!!!!!!......but the future is certainly uncertain.

I don't mind the pop-up lites......hardly ever used them.......generally I don't like driving the F at night.

I like the square tails lites on my TR. The overall design of the car is rather square.....I think the round lites on the 512M detract from the intended design. The round lites do look great on other F cars. I am not a big fan of the 348.

I can see 575M in the price range of $150k-170k still in the next 5 years and 550 in the range of $100k-140k in the next 5 years.

But again like stock market and other commodities, you will never know what the market will be, right??

BTW, I never get used to the flip up light with square rear light, (like in 512 and 348) don't you??

Dr. Shelbee: I agree with most of what you say, however, testarossas and 512TRs are well below $100K.

You have stated that you would like to get a 575M "when the price drops quite a bit". If it does, then what do you think this will do to the price of the 550?....it will drop quite a bit too, wouldn't you agree?

Mass produced cars, like the testarossas, and the more modern cars that you mentioned, are not "classics" in my book.......not at this time yet.

Henry K,

456s is different than any other Ferrari in term in depreciation.

Historically 4 seater Ferraris have always been less desirable, like 400M. But classic V12, like Daytona, Testarossa, 512TR and limited production 512M held up pretty good above $100k after more than 10+ years of production.

There are always guys looking for V12 F-cars rather than more desirable "entry level" V8 F-cars.

Sorry, but I see the Daytona as the
more 'classic" car.

How much you guys wanna bet that 2000 or 2001's 550 is still near $150k?? Yes 1997 might be around $ 110-120 with 10k miles for US car.

My car's MSRP was close to $250k with the options I have. Got it for a lot less but still above $ 150k with only 5k miles :-)

Don't think about selling it, just drive it, enjoy it, even just to look at it. It is just simply a beautiful classic true V12 Ferrari.

How about getting another Maranello perhaps 2001's or even 575M F1??

I would not sell my 550 for a long time, unless 575M's price drops quite a bit :-)

I like the 550 much better than the Daytona

Matt: The $25,000 was just a guess. But, here is an awesome car, that sold new for about ($240,000.....correct me if I am wrong), and is now starting to approach the $100,000 mark, used with low miles.....even less for a Euro model.

Look at what is happening to the 456's price.......still falling!!!!!!!

I don't know what is going on.......but, one REALLY pays to be the first on the block, when it comes to re-sell.

This appears to be also true of the 360.

You really think the price would drop $25,000 in 6 months?!?! I know the market is soft, but $25,000 soft?

As much as I hate to see that you had to sell the car.........think of it this way: If you kept it for another 6 months, you would have lost another $25,000 selling it.

I can't help but see the prices really drop on this car, for whatever reason.

Tuesday I sold my 99 Euro 550 Maranello. Most awesome car I have ever experienced. It was time for many reasons, but I miss it already. With California Azzurro blue,Crema interior and Tubi it looked great in my garage. I need to get another Ferrari! The buyer has a Porsche 911. I told him that the Maranello's performance, sounds and overall experience will trump the Porsche EVERY time.

I'm thinking about a Daytona. Less refined than the Maranello but more visceral and demanding the driver's full attention. Would probably depreciate less. I definitely "need" a V-12.

Any thoughts?Upload
