I believed this is a common problem with the Italian Cars. My 1996 Alfa Spider is the same. This time this soft sticky material was painted over most of the plastic panel. I soak a cloth with brake fluid and gently work on it and with time it rubbed off. Turn out pretty good. maybe you could try this.

Philip,
This is a common problem on 348's. There were several threads on this about a year ago. Do a search on "348", "handles", "trim" etc. I recall that the only way to remove the rubbery "goo" from the door handles is to refinish them down to the bare metal and repaint with a high quality black trim paint. Do not use solvents or Windex on them, will only make it worse. Plain old water does the least damage.

I was cleaning the inside of my 348 this weekend. I noticed that on the interior "door handles" and all around hte ashtray, and the little "storage cup" in front of the shifter...the material is a wierd, kind of rubberized type.........it's not a hard plastic, nor is it all rubber, it appears to have some sort of chushiony rubber coating, I can press my finger nail into it........does any one know how to remove fine scratches from this, what is it, and what's the best thing to clean/shine it.

Thanks!!!

Philip
