According to "Original Ferrari V-8" by Keith Bluemel (pg. 92): "Right at the back of the console was a lockable glovebox on coupe and targa models, but only a recessed oddments tray on the Spider version." Interestingly enough, the book also has a photo of an interior of a 1993 Series Speciale 348ts without the locking box, just the open bin. vty, --Dennis |

I will try to track down the supplier of the armrest by contacting the previous owners. I will post any information I uncover. Wish me luck. |

David C. That is beautiful. I have a 348 Spider and have seen many and they all have the same bottom compartment that you have but with no cover. I think what you got looks very professional and is very practical. If you find any paper work in the car on who did it please let us know. JLM |

My 348 spider has a lockable compartment positioned where the cassette storage area was located. I thought it was factory. Original owner gave me the cassette storage bin and said the lockable assembly was custom made. Nice job. |

the means by which the lockable top on my center console go there is anyones guess. It does in fact LOOK factory, but then again, I'm about the 5th owner of this baby. Anything's possible. In fact, I was surfing eBay yesterday, and saw a set of 348 seats for sale, they're DIFFERENT than mine! Upon closer inspection, mine are actually 355 seats! HA! So, as for the center console, in my car, WHO KNOWS!. BTW- Drove it all day yesterday, fantastic! |

Sure, a photo would be nice..........I'm going to continue to look for aftermarkets.......I'll let you all know if I find anything.....I think it would be nice, even if it didn't have a lock, just to put something "away" and not leave it laying out.....Obviously, I wouldn't leave my wallet or check book in either one, but gum, mints, cd or two..........it'd be nice........thanks for all your feedback!!!! |

Philip, My 348 Spider has an armrest / storage compartment between the seats - the dealer commented to me that he had seen only 1 other like this. He then commented that someone was making these quality pieces aftermarket. It is wrapped in the same leather as the seats and has nice stitching to match. Looks very "factory" - however it does NOT have a lock. It simply opens upward to provide a good place for CD's, glasses, cell phone, etc... I can snap a picture tomorrow if you request. Unfortunately I can not direct you to the manufacturer. I can only say that the car spent time in Oklahoma and East Texas. |

Philip, I am pretty sure that there is no aftermarket update for the ts models. Anyway its not too safe: The whole case could be cracked open with a screwdriver in one second. Nevertheless I still like the look of the closed compartment better than the open space of the ts. Con saluti cordialissimi, Jens Haller |

I had a quick look in my 94 parts manual and it does not show the cover - In my owners manual it show a smaller one for the TS and a larger one that angles up towards the bulkhead for the TB. Also in the parts manual, it shows an optional audio cassette holder that goes in its place! - Could not find the cup holders mind you! Paul |

back to part of my original question......It would stand to reason, that somewhere there is an aftermarket or even an OEM that we could buy and install..........anybody every hear of one, or know any suppliers that may be able to help????? |

I don't have one in my 93 ts Spec. Wish I did because I'm always having to move loose stuff to the front boot when parking with the targa off. |

Jim wrote: >Only the 1989-1994 348 TB`s (hard top style) had the locking storage bin. the TS (targa top style) could not have it due to the location of the top storage behind the seats. _________ I have to add my experience to Jeff Edison's -- my 1990 348ts had the lockable bin, too. If you look at the lockable bin v. the open storage area, neither intrudes upon the storage area for the targa hardtop. I've seen later model year 348ts and tb with the open bin, as well as the 348 Spider. It's also vaguely counterintuitive; you wouldn't have as much need for a lockable bin in a hardtop; if you have a softtop, you're more likely to leave the top down/off and hence need a place to lock up your small items. I too have wondered why Ferrari made the switch -- even without the added security, the bin makes the interior look neater. I keep some stuff in the 355 bin (very similar), and it looks mildly messy. vty, --Dennis |

I tend to take my cd's out of the covers and put them in a cd holder(that holds multiple cds), I then put them in the pocket in the back of the drivers seat & push the seat right back. You cant see them from outside even with the roof off. (did you hear that all London cd thieves ;) )

Thanks guys, I guess this clears it up...Jim, that makes perfect sense about storing the hard top....I didn't think of that. I guess I'll keep cd's in the bonnet when I leave her with the top off. Small price to pay! |

Philip, Only the 1989-1994 348 TB`s (hard top style) had the locking storage bin. the TS (targa top style) could not have it due to the location of the top storage behind the seats. Note that the owners manual is the same for both cars. best regards, Jim |

Only the early models had one! I have got a 1990 348tb and also have a lockable storage compartment. One of the few advantages of being an owner of these cars: Looks better and is much more practical IMO Con saluti cordialissimi, Jens Haller |
