Al, the way you talk about your family and how you spend time with your kids and help them in sharing this enjoyment, it's obvious to me that you reached your goal long before you ever had your first Ferrari... As far as the trip is concerned- Dinos, rounds of golf, bubbly by the pool- it seems you had quite a time... Congratulations... You seem to really enjoy life and the new gift it's given you... i hope you and your whole family enjoy it in good health, as you already seemed to have started... The stories are great, too, don't hesitate to share your next one... |

It is now Sat. afternoon and Alfie and I find our way to Hillsborough, CA and our friends home. Upon arriving I notice a 246 Dino in the garage and that should have tipped me off as to what was to follow. The first thing, my friend Paige wants to drive the Ferrari. No problem says I and off we go through the narrow and winding streets of Hillsborough. His first comment, after drooling on the red paint, was that he hasnt driven a stick shift in a while. He then proceeds to drive this car like a race driver. At first I am a little scared and then I realize he REALLY knows how to drive. In a couple of minutes I am literally shouting for joy and holding on for dear life. The ride was like racing the streets of Monaco. I now know what a Ferrari is built for. When we pull into his driveway, I ask him How did you learn to drive a car like that. His answer was priceless and I will quote Well Al, in the early 70s one of my hobbies was driving race cars all over the country. Then my younger son and his college roommate took the 355 for a spin. Needless to say, they were impressed. The next morning Paige (the race car driver) and I played an early nine holes of golf at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. What a magnificent setting. Paige is a 2 handicap and quite a golfer. On hole number three he hits a nine iron to the green for a Hole-In-One. In his 40 years of golf, this is only his second hole in one. This road trip is so amazing that it is almost unreal. Later Sunday morning we drive to Sears Point race track to see the 360 Challenge race. You can see my spider on the front row in the pictures that were posted on another thread. Highlights were seeing the Enzo, the what seems light hundreds of F cars (the majority were red), the classic GTO Ferrari and climbing up the hill to watch the race with my two sons. What an afternoon!! Alfie and I then drove to Boise, Idaho and arrived about 1:00 AM. It was sweet driving over Donner Summit at 100+ mph. We finally put the top up about three hours from Boise. The next morning Im driving by myself to Sun Valley, ID and thinking about all the great things that happened in the last four days. My highlight on that drive was listening to the Earth, Wind and Fire CD and the Marvin Gaye CD and a smile on my face. The grand finale for the trip was when I got home. I wanted my wife of 27 years, Sharon AKA the War Dept. (just kidding) to drive the spider. Two months before Sharon said Honey, we REALLY dont need a Ferrari. And I agreed with her. As she drives the car for the first time, I can see a smile on her face. Her comment was, Wow, this is a great car. Priceless!! If the car value goes to zero in the next two years, I have already gotten my monies worth for this car in just five days. Am I happy I bought a Ferrari? You decide!! My personalized plate will arrive in about two weeks. It is My Goal and I think it fits.
