Drew, those lights in the front grill of a BBi are passing lights only. |

Frank, I was typing my post and missed yours about the BBi not having front fog lights. I always thought the exposed lights in the grill were fog lights? Drew |

Tino, an interesting point to note about the "extra front grill lights". The fog lights you refer to were actually used on 512BB's also. In the sales brochure and most pictures the 512BB is pictured with the full length grill and recessed fog lights. However for 512BB's sold into Germany and Switzerland, Ferrari used the shorter grill and exposed fog lights. The short grill and exposed fog lights is the style used also on the BBi's. If you look at the parts manual for the 512BB you can see different grills shown for the different markets. You can also see this in the Nichol's book on the Boxer. Regards, Drew |

The rear foglights with the extra rear lower grill were an option on the BB. A friend who bought a new BB one year earlier than me (1980) has them while my car didn't. |

Tino, yes the Nardi wheel on my BBi has black spokes. It is queer that a BBi came with rear fog lights but no front fog lights. |

Doesn't matter what country, BB's & BBi's are different. |

Exactly, Frank; while the extra front lights on the BB were completely behind the grill and served as fog lights. I also seem to remember that the BB always came with a Nardi wheel with brushed aluminum spokes while the BBi's had black spokes, is that correct ? |

Tino, those extra lights on the BBi are passing lights only. They only illuminate when the headlights are off and you pull the headlight flasher lever forward and go off when you let go. |

I think it's much simpler than that. The injected cars came out with the two mirrors, the extra front grill lights and the different radio plus the equalizer. All these items did not exist on the BB. I also think the BB could not be had with cloth seat inserts, they were all leather, unlike the standard ones on injected cars. |

My 1982 BB512i came with mirrors on both sides and is shown that way in the pictures in the manual and the official sales brochure I have for the car. My car was originally a Belgium spec car. |

I think it depends on what country spec the car was made for. |

>>it only had one Vitaloni mirror on the driver's side. No mirrors on the other side. << That's the only way I've seen BB's also.

The 512BB introduction was on the Pininfarina stand at the Paris Motor Show October 7, 1976. It had one driver's side mirror (LHD) at the intro. See Mel Nichols book for many 512BB photos, most with only a driver's side mirror.

I bought my 81 BB new at the Bologna dealership; it only had one Vitaloni mirror on the driver's side. No mirrors on the other side.

I believe a carburated BB should have a California style Vitoloni on the drivers side similar to the carburated 308's. That's what mine has and what is pictured in the sales brochure and other literature. Interested to see what other people have to say. |

I would bet if they came with mirrors from the factory only one would have been used. I know that Dinos did not come with mirrors at all and were installed by dealers, or at least all 206s and most early 246s. If you are looking for Concours quality according to FCA rules mirrors are acceptable for after market additions, because they are a safety item, so ultimately you are correct in adding them both or one. Check some of the old literature on Boxers and go with what is pictured. |

My '83 BBi has two mirrors. I believe they all came with two mirrors. Whether they were on opposite sides or not, well, that is another question. Jim S. |

I got an '81 512bb last week on a trade. It has a few more nuts and bolts to be assembled after a fresh re-spray. I have 1 Vitoloni drivers side mirror that i do not have to install. Holes were filled prior to repaint. Passenger side never had one. From pictures, I see the cars with zero,1 and 2 mirrors. What is more correct? Were the mirrors added only if someone wanted them or were they factory added? What do other 512 owners have? At this point I can easily choose any of the 3 options because the inner door panels are removed so work can be done easily. |
