No, the clutch was not releasing going down. A couple of pumps and the clutch released, and would even stay released for 20+ seconds, but after a minute of driving or so, it required a couple of depressions again. |

Nick Eli is correct. Do not let them sell you a new clutch. Correct O-rings should solve the problem. THe transmission does have to come out which makes this an expensive repair. This should be covered under warranty. |

Nick, your clutch does not need to be replaced. I had the same problem with my 00 coupe as well. The problem is with the o ring which costs nothing but the complete transmission has to come out to change the o ring. My local dealer changed the o ring and was covered under warranty. Don't let them sell you a new clutch. The problems is with almost 99% of 2000 6 speed models. |

Nick I had constant problems with "air" getting into the clutch system with my 2001 360. At times the car was undrivable and had to be towed. Bleeding did not work. The problem was traced to O-rings. I was told Ferrari reengineered the O-rings late 2001. |

Mitch was your clutch sticking coming up? I am experiencing a slight stickiness as I release the clutch pedal. I am being advised by the dealer it will require a clutch replacement. Apparently early 360's had a problem with a part within the clutch assembly and Ferrari has upgrade the part that was causing the problem. I know you have a 355 but if bleeding the clutch line solved the problem I sure would like to know. |

DES: the trouble was air got into the clutch system due to a cock-up when race-prepping the brakes (same resorvoir). {Too much fluid got into the resorvoir, and screwed up the air bladder in the cap. This caused a leak, which allowed air into the clutch system.} A couple of presses, and the clutch would release normally--somewhat like pumping the brakes. |

Six speeds are harder to find. It's a personal issue for YOU to decide. Like another individual stated, drive both and then YOU decide. Try and do varied driving when testing and not a simple 10 minute test drive. I have always had sticks(Corvettes) and when racing Formula Atlantics, I wished for the F-1 shifting for track activities. I enjoy my stick until I get in alot of stop and go traffic. |

There have got to be two dozen threads asking this question... if you're interested in a few dozen answers (if your question wasn't just rhetorical), search the archives. In summary, its clearly a personal preference thing... and a trade-off... what are your priorities? I love my F1... I love that I can do things with the car on the track that nobody without an F1 can do... I can downshift under hard braking without upsetting the car... I can downshift as the wheel straightens in the middle of a high-speed transition... I can keep the car in the optimal powerband... and so on. I could practice heel-and-toe with 5x the track time that I'll ever have and still not be able to do those things with a manual. I also love driving around the street with the F1... not so much the upshifts, but the flawless downshifts... and that wonderful music the engine makes as I do so. With a manual, I too often skip the separate downshifts... requires a bit more focus/effort than I often feel like giving on the street. HOWEVER, I do miss the upshifts at times. Rowing through the gears while briskly accelerating is quite fun. The feel of the gears through the shifter in the palm of your hand is a sensory pleasure that is missed. So, it is a trade-off... but for me, the top priority is on-track performance. Its not unlike the fact that I often miss having more comfortable and adjustable seats... but the racing seats are sooo much lighter and lock you in much better. And, yes, its not unlike the trade-off between the Stradale and the Modena. The Modena will probably remain more popular than the Stradale, but for my priorities the Stradale is THE car. (And, not surprisingly, the Stradale comes with an F1.)

Find myself always wanting to turn on the "sport" mode in my 360 to speed up the shifts |

I find the F1 much more fun that the manual (they are both 6-speed). Ernesto |

DES, that just usually means a simple fluid bleed will fix the clutch system. |

I think you have to drive both to decide, I drove an F355 with F1 and was not impressed, but I was with the 360. |

Mitch, 3 to 5 taps...? Is that normal for "minor clutch trouble" with a Ferrari...? That sounds like a problem... |

Do you want a bunch of gofast parts that detract from you involvement with a fine vehicle, or do you want to manhandle her yourself? That (really) is the question! For me the choice was simple; I wanted a 6-speed for the involvement. T here has been a time with my F355 when I was having trouble with the clutch/brake resorvoir and a F1 would not have gotten home. With the manual, 3-5 taps on the clutch, then shift, and I get home safely (albeit slowly). |

I like the manualness of shifting, but the footwells are so darn small that an F1 would alleviate that. Of course the newer cars with F1's have more legroom..... |

I am in the market for a 360 Modena. Why would anyone want an F-1 Transmission and miss the fun of a six-speed. |
