I agree with Ken. The cheapest way is to drive it. If the car is fully sorted, it should give you no problems. If it does have its problems they will surface themselves and you'll see what will need to be fixed.

If you were promised that the car is in excellent shape, a drive like that would just be stretching the car's legs. Probably does the car more good than bad.

I have always used Reliable for all my shipping. They have a hub here in the Phoenix area and you could always have it dropped off there. They keep it in the wharehouse til the next truck comes in. Most of their trucks are enclosed with the lift gate rear. I always used the enclosed trucks for my cars. I did see some open ones when I was there though. If you want get a quote from AL 1-800-528-5709.

"DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR!!!! "

Why the hell not? If the car is so unreliable why is Daniel buying that particular one on the first place?

Dan - buy a car you can drive. Make sure during PPI the car is sound. If it has been serviced reguilarly and has the records DRIVE IT.

I picked up my 328 in SLC, made it home to IAH in 2 days via PHX (it was winter). 2000 miles, 2 days. Yes minor glitches. No major problems, Ferrari drivelines are stone cold reliable if treated right.

Drive it drive it drive it: IT"S A CAR!!! If it's too unreliable to drive get one that isn't - why buy someone else's problem?
Ferraris are not garage art, or objects to wax. They are cars. Mine goes from IAH to LAX at least once a year and back.

I agree, Intercity seems very professional. Wish I could have used them on my last shipment. (they couldn't get to the dealer on time)

Instead, I used AutoBahn Transport (out of Illinois). My advice : DON'T USE THEM.

Car was 2 weeks late.
Car was depot'd twice. Which means it was moved off the truck then on the truck 3-4 times (hard on the car)

I also wasn't impressed with Horseless Carriage. Very slow.

Although, I have used VIP twice with no problems and good service.

My former Tr was shipped via Intercity, LaJolla to Boston. Excellent service and reasonable.
Current 348 spider was shipped via Passport, TN to Boston. Again excellent service.
Had my former 930S shipped open transport Biloxi MS to Boston. Saved about 30% on cost. Transporter did a fine job but the car arrived dirty etc. Would not ship a presentable Ferrari long distance open transport.

For my 2 cents worth, please check out this link. http://bigskyexpress.com/ This is who I used to have my car shipped from Ft. Lauderdale(Shelton Ferrari) to Indianapolis. Rock was cheaper than Horseless and Intercity. He does not use double bunks and has been shipping very expensive cars for a long time. After my car was delivered, he was on his way to the East Coast to pick up one of Nicholas Cage's cars bound for the west coast. He has hauled for Jay Leno and also Vintage Races. He called me several times along the way to report where he was. A great Experience!! He even made Shelton Ferrari fix a few things with my clear film install before he loaded.

Daniel,
if it is a US 308 you could also ship the car with a regular truck. The clearance on the car is pretty good. If it has a EURO front spoiler you will need an exotic car transporter.

For NY use a company that is based out of there. Horseless carriage is a good company but they are a little on the high side.

DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR!!!!

It is likely that the car will not make 2000 Miles endurance and you will end up paying for your returun trip as well as a carrier to get it to your shop.

Here is another alternative:

Fly out there, rent a 24foot truck with a flat bed, like a large Budget truck. Have a tow truck(flat bed) come to load the car on the truck, then have them come back to back on the truck and roll it in. Buy good commercial hooks and strap the car down in the truck. Then drive it home in the truck. To unload do the same with the town truck.

The other alternative is to rent a U-Haul car carrier and drive out with the carrier in tow then pick up the car.

Driving 1000s of miles to pick up a car is painful. Just did a 1200Miles trip in 22h last Friday. No fun!!!\

Agree with bruce, use Intercity. They did a GREAT job transporting the 308 that is here.

Enjoy the Drive.

Do not even look at putting it on rails. If the car were to sit anywhere a fair amount of time, you get "rail dust" which will eventualy pit the paint. I have it all over my pos ford. In the correct light it looks like .

Wouldn't it be wiser to bite the bullet and anty up the additional $1000 or $1200 and have it shipped by an enclosed trailer. Isn't that kind of like having your snow white tuxedo cleaned by a professional cleaner and then being too cheap to pay for a plastic bag to cover it up while you walk across a muddy parking lot? One slip, and the whole effort is wasted.

Hey im buying a car from arizona and having it shipped to NY. The car its self put a hole in my wallet so im trying to find a cheaper way of shipping over the inclosed 18-wheeler. Can the car be shipped on a train or uhaul?
