My old 1975 model has never left me stranded. Sure, a few little things have gone wrong here and there, but nothing that would disable the car. The drivetrain is quite solid, but things like A/C, etc. are perhaps not as robust.

Having said that, a AAA card is real comforting. (No, not a AA card.)

Be sure and check your tires as well as follow Ron's advice on fix a flat and spare. Of course this should be done with any vehicle when you take a long trip, but when you don't have a spare or don't have room in the trunk for the flat tire you should take special care.

Hey Philip,

I hope you enjoy your trip. Don't forget to take a roadside assist kit with you.. Fix-a-flat, spare parts, etc..

Very important if you get stuck in the woods..

Drove my '82 GTSi from Colorado to Las Vegas and back problem free, it didn't fall apart/die on me until a week after I got back. New fuse block fixed everything

Philip,

If maintenanced correctly the 348 is a rock solid car. Especially the engine is bullet proof when being serviced according to the book. My mechanic told me that he knows several 348 which have far more than 140.000km on the clock without a major engine/mechanical failure. I myself never got stranded with my one. That doesnt mean too much though since I only have the car for around 2 years now. Have done several long distance trips with around 500-600 km. Never had one problem. Check oil all 250km though! My one is quite thirsty with that.

Con saluti cordialissimi,

MY TR went 115,000 miles and only came home on a flatbed once. My 308 went 85,000 miles and never needed a tow.

I have been a member of the FCA-Arizona region for about 4 years now and every year we have a monthly drive, some are long (4-5 hours) most are short (under 4 hours) and we have for 2 years gone for a weekend that the drive to the resort was 5-6 hours away. We have yet to have one mechanical failure since I have been in the club. Every year in Arizona we have 2 Vintage Car Rallies that cover approx. 1000 miles of back roads, I have never heard of a Ferrari not being able to make it. I know our regional director has driven his Mondial T and 348 to New York from Phoenix and to New Orleans from Arizona and makes several trips to California each year and has not had a problem, that I know of. I think if your car is in excellent mechanical shape and is regularly driven you should not have any problems, always make sure you have phone numbers you will need and do any prep you would do to any other car you would take on a trip (fluid levels etc..).

I have a 348 that is in excellant mechanical shape? I'm a little nervous still about taking it long distances....historically ferraris seem to be so unreliable or "testy" to say the least...can anyone share their experiences good and bad, and let me know your thoughts....I'd like to take my car for a weekend trip about 5 hours one way..........I'm a little worried about getting stuck somewhere........any ideas, tips, or common sense prep tips..........
