I recently made the jump from an '82 308 GTSi to a '91 Testarossa. I've only put on about 70 miles in a week with the TR, but I already love the power of the 12. Bruce Wellington was the inspiration to upgrade, as he gave me a go behind the wheel of his TR back in September!! Somewhat of a life-changing experience, you might say...

Most of you guys already know that I am also building a 512TR race car. I think the TR & 512TR are just the most gorgeous cars ever :-)

Thanks Norm and Ross,

I am going to do some reading on the web again.

Peter -- Surely will see you with your Mondial this Sunday. There is a 95' 512TR with 1 previous owner asking for US$70K in HIT. Might check it out tomorrow as well.

See you!

I have a 1994 512TR. My progression was from Fiat X1/9, Alfa Romea Guila Super, Jag, RX-7 twin turbo, Viper and two NSXs. I always wanted a Ferrari and always liked the agressive looks of the 512TR and it combines the power of the Viper with a mid-engine layout.

Ming, take a look at red-headed.com, it does a good job of showing the differences; by year, and by country. This is a site managed by our own Edvar.

Hi Ming!

Not yet. I am waiting for the lights to arrive from the states. Should be here next week. Can't wait to take the 512TR out next weekend. Coming out this weekend? I am taking the Mondial out.

Ross -- Thank you for correcting me.

Bruce -- Great to see your speedy recovery. It seems quite a bit of improvement and modifications on the 512TR over the TR. Am I wrong again Ross?

Put 60K great miles on my 328 before I bought my 512TR which gave me 28K miles of pure pleasure and awesome power. Its now parked along with my 328 while I play with my new 360 Spider now at 12K miles. Just can't bear to sell and never will part with any of my babies. All get exercised regularly.

Hi Bruce, happy to see your doing better. I agree. I have had FI Vettes, C-5s, P-cars....still have some and the TR. I like the original design; classic and more indicative of Enzos' thoughts for the car. I also believe that a TR could be made to do same or more than a 512 for the difference in bucks added. Anyway, love them all....in my opinion the best of all worlds in Ferrari cars!

no ming, i think it may just have been an option coz the same dealer where i bought mine had a red '93 512tr w/ a black engine cover. it seems random, so must be an option.

Hi Peter,

Welcome back! Have you fixed the front fog light yet?
Yes, I reckon all Euro 512TRs are with the body color engine covers.

had a 348ts, and it was a bit of a painful experience. i had always admired the tr lines but loved the improvements on the 512tr (the m just doesn't work for me - the rear lights are wrong etc). so sold the 348 and bought a very clean 512 (like william for my 35th).

btw, mine is a '92 but i have a body colored engine cover (red), and it's original.

Went straight to the 512TR. The 512M, I would have felt guilty about putting on the miles, I see it as more of a collector's car. Not my daily driver. Wasn't going to do a lot of city driving and parallel parking. Too anal about dirt and dust to own a Spider. Like them low, wide and intimidating (the Ferrari I mean). Love the mid engine 12, seamless power. Not scared about the maintenance x-factor, it's the cost of ownership. Was a bit quiet for my taste to begin with so I slapped a Tubi on it and now it's perrrrrfect.

Mine was originally from the UK. According to the VIN, it's a 94 model. There are some differences between the Euro and US models, maybe that's one of them.

I knew what I wanted from the start, so I went straight for it.

My first Ferrari was a 1994 512TR.

Peter:

Your 512TR is a '94?? Just wondering, because looking at your profile, your 512TR has a "black" rear engine lid cover...I thought that all '94 512TR had the rear engine lid covers painted the same color as the body color. Just my observation. I'm no expert, but every '94 512TR I've seen had "body color" engine lid cover and not "black".....Only the '92 and '93 512TR had "black" rear engine lid covers...That's how you can easily differentiate a '94....Anybody out there who knows more about this trivial detail, please chime in. Thanks.

Keep in mind that I am not talking about TOTALLY Black 512TR's, because that would make my observation pointless.

Always wanted a TR, ever since I first saw it in the 80s. Hunting actively for a TR in Hong Kong last year, but didn't see one that meets our (my and my bro's) expectations.

Saw an 86 Mondial 3.2 coupe at an irresistable price. Took the plunge just to get some Ferrari experience before a suitable TR shows up. It wasn't until about 4 months after the Mondial purchase did we bump into the ultimate Ferrari of our dreams, the current 94 512TR.

I don't own a 512TR...just a 328. I am very happy with it. But now, I find myself wanting a second one, a Testarossa or better still, a 512TR. I think having a 12-cylinder "completes" the Ferrari experience.

first Ferrari was a 308QV GTS then i got an 86 Countach 5000QV, gave myself the 512TR on my 35th Bday. I love it, it blows away the Countach & most anything else :-)

I had an '84 Mondial Cab, started looking a early TR's as a way to get into a 12. Kept finding things I didn't like with the eary models, kept raising my target price, and then finally got to the 512 TR. I've had it for almost two years now, it's a great car.

Frank-Thats a great choice too. I thought about doing that but living in Dallas I wanted to make sure I had good A/C. I already have a 930 that makes me sweat on 100 degree days. I also went the other way too with a 250 coupe. I will have to drive it with the windows down in the summer though:-).

I went the other way having had a 1986 TR a few years ago and now a 1982 BB512i Boxer. I think the Boxer's lines are more enduring and exotic than the TR .

mondial, '85 TR, '91 TR, and then the 512TR. The more I experienced each TR the more I wanted the 512TR. I think its the cleanest looking of the bunch.

Curious as to how most owners got to a 512TR....

THanks,
Jordan
