Where do I get good decal badges that I could mount to magnets for my 328? What size is appropriate and how do you position them so they are layed out correctly, have the car on a level plane and mount the Prancing Horse at 32 degrees and 58 degrees? But where on the fender?

you should update your profile with the new horse on the fender....

Here's my 2 cents:
As you can read from some of the comments below, the Scuderia Shields that I have are beautiful! If you do not like them you will get a full refund. Besides that, the Ferrari owners that have purchased the shields apply them with either epoxy or by drilling 2 holes. (I would rather go with epoxy). Down the road, if you ever have to get the fender or front of the car repaired or repainted you can decide to "indent" the fenders and go the whole nine yards. They make any Ferrari that much prettier! Some people have also purchased them for display on a wall or in a showcase with models, trophies, etc. Feel free to contact me.

true,
328s never had then, neither 308s and 348s with exception of race cars. The early 355s did not have them and as of late in the production (with the F1) they started offering the shields.

David as far as I am aware the shields were never offered on the 328 as an option. All the ones that I have seen were placed later, professionally like Martin's. They look really great when the fender is hammered in to accept them.

I had the fender indented and the shields set in. My shields , because of the curve of the shields, were recessed deep. I liked it that way. Gave the car more debt.

Cost of recessing is $ 400 per fender. Fender needs to be re-sprayed after.

As for the notion of shields only on race cars, well, if you track your car and give it good healthy track excersise I feel you ear the shields.

Frank, Werner Pfister at MillerMotorcars sent them to me in the mail. They did not say "hey, put these on your car" but rather, they offered them in response to my question. I put the flat decals on my '95 355, (also purchased from Werner) and I've not put anything on my '01 550, because I felt they just didn't look right, somehow. I understand your point about original equipment and resale; but the stickers are removable, and on a red 355, they really set off the paint! Again, I'm from an age when only the race cars had the S F decals, and no one put them on Daytonas.

You would realize Efwun that with the F355 the shields were not an option. I liked they way they looked and had them done professionally. But if I keep the car long enough to sell someone may question the originality of them, like I did when I was shopping for a Dino and there were Ferrari badges on the rear.
I buy original parts to maintain the intergity and value of the car. Do it yourselving on a Ferrari is not for everyone and could be more costly in the end.
BTW please let me know which dealer will give you a stick-on to put on the fenders. Good luck. Thanks

Gee Frank, did you have the factory re-issue your window sticker to reflect the "originality" of your shields?? The nice "factory" stick-ons can be removed with no damage to the paint. (and they're free if you buy the car from a dealer).

I am sorry but the only way I beleive the shields should be put on is the way the manufacturer intended them to be put on. This idea of having stickers, magnetic strips, reversible features etc., take away from its factory look which to me looks beautiful. It is like looking at civics with rear lights that look like the lexus IS300. On top of that, anything that is not factory will end up costing you on resale. I myself had the proper shields screwed on, mounted and stamped on the fenders by an authorized shop. It wasn't cheap, but I had think of the consequences of having the shields on a 355 that never had them as an option. Nevertheless it cost $2000 to have them done properly. But it looks like from the factory and everyone who looks at them thinks they are, as the work is top notch. But I wouldn't just slap them on without thinking about it. Thanks

Branko,
I'm planning on putting them on without drilling...using an epoxy....I'll probably have the fenders indented, maybe next summer, if the cost isn't too formidable. Personally, with the shields glued in place, I don't think the "raised edge" is too bad.....even the ones from the factory have a slightly raised edge. The cost will be a deciding factor in whether or not to have the fenders indented, also how long it would take.....how difficult it is to remove fenders....all that would come into play.

Garry, if you do decide to go with the shields, Paul Bianco's shields are gorgeous! (and they can be mounted with or without screws) You get both shields for only 200.00.........good deal. I'm getting some for my birthday. I have the stickers now, they look good, but the shields really add something "extra".....good luck with your decision.....Pauls information is on this thread down below.

Branko,
you have mail.

Also I would suggest that you use the stickers first. See if you like it. Denting fenders to fit shields is a major step. See if you like them and then go the extra mile.

I had it done on the 348 and never looked back. Will likely do it to the 355 as well if I decide to keep the car.

The shields have to be earned in my opinion. If you track the car and give it track experience you "earn" the shields.

Branko,

Nope, I haven't had any problems at all. The shields are very flat against the fender and the magnetic backing seems to hold them on perfectly. In normal street driving (up to 130mph), there has been no movement of the badges. :-)

You know, PSK is right, these things were decals applied to the racing cars exclusively. (Team Ferrari and all that) Now that Ferrari see fit to offer them on road cars (even the 456, saw a beautiful Blu Pozzi car with shields), I don't see why the nice shiny plastic stickers are frowned on so much! The colors set off many paint schemes beautifully, and if they're stick on, so what??

Bo Pirkle in Tucker, Georgia does a very good job of beating the finders and installing shields. IMO, Bo's work looks better than the factory because he recesses the area so shields are flush. The factory 360 shields look tacked on to me since they are not flush with the finder, BTJMO. The factory beats, or stamps, out a place for the shield, but I just don't think it's deep enough. MPO is that the stickers or magnets look way too kit-car. Make sure you buy shields with the proper amount of silver in the horse to match the other emblems on the car. There are 3 different horse designs I know of, depending on year of car. The newer cars have much more silver in the horse.

The shields are $1004.00 option from the factory. Keep in mind, the shields require a whole different front clip as both fenders have indentions for the mounting pins and the whole front (both fenders and the header panel) comes as one piece. YOu are not paying $1004 just for two shields, but for the two shields and the new front fenders and header panel.

Branko, nice to have you join us!

You might even consider applying your "stickers" (either paper or resin coated) to thin magnetic sheet, and then they're REALLY easily reversible if you change your mind! I've got a resin set on order and that's what I'm planning to do. I don't plan to leave them on the car most of the time anyway.

Last weekend I personally saw the (not OEM)shields on a fellow chatters 360. The picturres do not do justice to the look. They are beautiful and add alot to his car. I will definately order the option on my next car!! The yellow and professional look in my opinion really tie the front emblem together color wise. After seeing them in person, really totally sold me!! You can contact Paul Bianco [[email protected]]if you are interested. By the way I do not sell them or have any connection to Paul except thru posting on this site and adding my opinions about the product. This forum can add valuable insite on different products as we all cannot witness products ourselves!

I put on the "resin stickers" I really like them, and they are reversable......I know it's not a "purist" point of view, but I feel the shields really dress up the car. I got this same e mail from this gentlemen concerning the metal shields. I really like them a lot, and I would put them on, using a special adhesive, not drilling holes....but I got two Ferrari Resin Stickers for 7 dollars each from Ferrari of Washington......then if anything happens to them or they get damaged, I'll peel them off and replace them......but those enamel shields are really beautiful.....

The enameled badges are VERY beautiful, & a work of art if you've seen them in person. Of course
I could be biased as I have a pair of them for sale in Ferrari-Adds. Check them out, they are sweet! If you like the decals, you are lucky 'cause you can save some $$. But those enameled badges are bitchen.

Terry,

Thanks for explaining where the enamel shields came from ... I definitely did not know that. I also agree with what you said regarding not adding them to your car, but have to admit if I would be tempted :-), but not the enamel ones ... er, unless it was an F40 or 288GTO!!!

Psk,
To use them as intended, then they should only be on Race Cars. Ferrari did not sell a road car with the shields until the 288 GTO and that was intended to be a Race Car, Only group B was disbanded. The enamel shields started with the 288 GTO and then continued with the F40 and then the F50. I sort of understand them being offered on the limited production commemorative cars, because after all the shields are a part of the Ferrari lore, but for some weird reason they started offering them as an option on 355s and now they are offered on all models (I believe, although I have never seen them on a 456). Just another way for Ferrari to get just a little more money out of the buyer! I would not add shields to a car unless it was a factory racecar. To each his own, though. I do think it is funny that many of the owners of the new cars paid thousands to have them added at the factory, and I would bet they don't even know what they mean.

Shields are supposed to be stickers or painted on ... look at the Alfa Romeo P3's that first wore these. Thus why are we now using badges?

Look at all the old Ferraris that raced such as GTOs, Testarossas, F1 cars, etc., and rightly carried these shields and they are stickers ... look at the current F1 car, etc.

Thus in my opinion anything but a sticker, that is then clear coated over is NOT a real Scuderia shield, and the BADGES look like sh!t

Your call, but I would not drill holes and attach a ugly heavy badge to my car, when the original intention was it to be a sticker or painted on for the racing models ... not a model badge.

It is the same with the 4 leafed clover that racing Alfas wear ... supposed to be painted on or a sticker ... now you can buy models with this as a badge as the company is using it to sell cars, not for what it was originally all about.

Thus a genuine shield is not a badge it is just a sticker ... and when did this misconception start???

Keep something in mind about the metal shields.

The cars which come with them nowadays have the fenders indented so that they fit the shields and don't have them stick out too much. If you put the shields in a car which is not so equipped, I think you'll be disappointed with the results. Especially because you'll have to drill two holes, and therefore the process is hardly reversable.

Good afternoon.

Take a look at these. I hope you don't mind, but I thought you may have an interest in these. Let me know. The price is $200 per pair plus postage. The shields are metal and measure 4 inches high and 3 1/2 inches wide and the color is fired glass cloisonne. The horse is available in CHROME or BLACK.
They are approximately 1/8 inches thick and weigh about 8 ounces each. They can be installed two ways: double stick tape or with 2 posts on the back if you prefer to drill 2 holes in the fender. They are the same size as the OEM shields. Follow this link for a good picture and go to Emblems & Badges. This is NOT my site but it does provide a good picture. http://stores.andale.com/hgparts

Note his price! Mine are the same.
Feel free to call me with any questions.
