I also love my 1982 Mondial. I personally like the Mondial over the restricted space of the 308. The Mondial's power plant is more than enough for everyday driving, which as I recall what the car was designed for. The car is not as slow as some make it out to be. If you're into tracking or going fast get a 308. The Mondial is a very fun car to own and drive and is one of the best designs to come out of Pin. The extra space is a plus, making it more practical. I use my car as an almost daily driver. There is a difference in the power of the QV but in a four seater you must ask yourself, does it really matter. I wouldn't buy a QV for a Mondial, it's a waste of money. If you want more power just go for the T. If you like it, get it, but don't pay more than $16,000. A loyal Mondial 8 Owner/Operator. LOL |

My old 83QV should be up for sale soon. I traded it in on a Nissan Altima for my mom. Paid 19k for it a year ago an thats what they gave me on trade. Pic is in in my profile. |

I bought a Red/Tan '81 Mondial for $14K and traded it in for $12k. Spent about $2k in repairs in first year (fuse box, A/C). |

The Mondial 8 was introduced in 1981 as Howie said. A 1982 Euro version *could* be a QV as Europe got the QV models a year before they hit the states (1983). Check the VIN number or e-mail me and I can decipher it for you. |

Steve, I believe you are correct. The Mondial 8 actually came out in 1981. Howie |

Mfennell -- If you're not in the US, it could be a "1982 Mondial QV" (the "Mondial QV = 1983 model year" rule applies in the US, and probably a few other places, but not everywhere -- e.g., where date of registration defines "year"). PS A cyber-slap for you and all posters who don't indicate a location in your Profile -- would knowing your continent be too personal! |

Oops. I coulda sworn I saw '82 as the first year QV in "Original V8". My mistake. We'll go look at it anyway to see if she likes the bodystyle. |

50K miles is not too bad, assuming the services are up to date. The mileage shows the car has been driven, and that's a good thing. An 82 should not be a QV, but doublecheck the car to be sure. Mondials aren't popular and don't seem to sell quickly, so take your time in looking around and seeing what is available. Darker colors look better on the Mondial, IMHO There's several for sale here, just as a starting point :http://cars.desertworld.com/ Also, you can get the complete history of the Mondial at http://www.ferrariusa.com/Mondial/index.asp |

Mfennell. The 82 is not a Quattrovalve, that arrived in 83. An 82 is the Mondial 8. The least desireable, worth maybe mid-teens if in good shape like any other car buy the latest one. A Quattrovalve could be found for similiar money perhaps. Not sure where you are located but i do know an 82 yellow/tan here in Connecticut in mint condition that the owner poured 25k into the last yr. that he would sell for less. E-mail me if interested [email protected] |

My girlfriend and I are hoping to go check out an '82 Mondial coupe (the ugly duckling!). Red/black. 50k miles. She has been wanting to replace her old VW Cabriolet and was thinking mid-80s SL Mercedes or 911 Cab. Then this car popped up. We could replace her mint '91 BMW 318is as the occaisional driver instead. SO, are there any specific things I should worry about? '82s are first year QVs, right? Any issues with that? If she's really interested, we'll get a PPI, but there might be a few areas I can check out myself. What's market price for this car these days, assuming maintenance up to date? It still has TRXs, BTW. Thanks for any comments. Mike |
