I think we need to confirm who is still planning on attending our get-together on October 7th. I haven't seen many responses, so if there is still interest please post whether youy plan on attending or not.

Old Westbury is this weekend, and Garden State is next weekend, so we could easily postpone the October 7th gathering to late October, which is a very pretty time of year on Long Island.

Please let me know ASAP. If there is not a lot of interest I plan on taking a Skip Barber course that weekend.

See you this weekend at OWG

We don't hang out with non-Ferrari owners, what do we look like? Seriously though, yeah come with us whenever you want, the more the merrier. This weekend we're going out to the Old Westbury Gardens for a concourse so you're welcome to come, I'll email you some info about it.
I'm starting to worry about Steve's thing, I'm getting the feeling that it's gonna be me and Steve alone...hmmm. Skip the Garden State Ferrari Festival, they have it twice a year anyway. FerrariChat rally is much more important.

Hello Folks, I'm not a Ferrari owner but I love the cars and have been dreaming of owning one since I was 12... I have been lurking this board since it used to be called expensivecar.com a few years back.. I live in NYC (Riverdale) if you guys don't mind a non Ferrari owner stopping by (I drive a BMW 525i) and sharing in the enthusiasm for Ferrari's I'd like to come...

BTW Kenny Herman, if you still need a ride and an official date is confirmed where I can attend; I'd be happy to give you a lift.. I live about 20 minutes from you.

Thanks.

Brett,

I havent received the FCA bulletin yet, and the info for the GSFF isnt listed on the FCA website. Can you either post the info or eMail it to me as well? Thanks.

When I go home this weekend I'll check it out. It's in the FCA bulletin under Penn-Jersey events, for October 7th if anyone else has it on hand.

It takes place in Mendham. You can call Jerry Molitor (I don't have his # with me as I'm not at home). The info is in the FCA news bulletin or you might be able to get a hold of his number at www.ferrariclubofamerica.org

Does everyone still feel like doing this on the 7th? I know I've been pretty bummed out last 2 weeks, but I'm still game if everyone else is. Please let me know if you are coming by posting your answers here.

I am also planning on going to Old Westbury this weekend; anyone else coming?

Just in case you guys didn't catch it in the other post, OWG was postponed to the 30th.

I just looked it up and the Fall Garden State Ferrari Festival (part of the FCA events) is October 7th as well. It seems that we can't seem to get a day here. I'll probably go to Steve's even if it is on the 7th, but the GSFF is one of the best shows. It's really close (like 40 min from me) so I'm hoping I could swing by there too. Very few places do you see so much rosso corsa in one place.

So what date are we gonna go to Steve's house?

Yeah Tom, I would definitely be game for caravanning out there, it would be a lot more enjoyable.

Yeah Pat, I think I'm gonna try and make my way out there this Sunday. It's only like 30 miles away, definitely worth it. I live in northern NJ and I guess me and Tom are gonna start a NJ rosso corsa caravan.

Please post your responses so we can vote on a day.

October 7 or October 14

Oct 7th is better for me too because I have Columbus Day off, but then again, everyday is good for me really. I wouldn't want anyone who was doing something with their family to have to decide between the Ferrari and their family (the Ferrari is the right choice for future reference). Whatever the decision is, is fine with me. We could do Oct 7 with Oct 14 as a rain date. The big thing is what is good for Steve. Let's come to a concensus soon about the date.

Tim,

Does this mean I can get a ride? Maybe we should meet eachother first before we go on a 2 hour trip together, make sure we get along :)... What kind of car does your friend have? Maybe you can come down to White Plains this coming weekend and I can take you to Competition Motors! That sounds like a good plan actually. What do you think?
Tim N (Timn88)
Posted on Sunday, September 02, 2001 - 11:26 am:

Kenny, i talked to my friend who is 18 and can drive on LI, he said he wants to go. His car is better suited for the occasoin anyway, it has t-tops. In response to what someone said a while back about the cider mill having the best doughnuts, i hear they do. I have yet to try them, but one water break at football practice was devoted entirely to how good their doughnuts are and how good that deli on rt. 22 is.

Steve,

It so happens that my car (Volvo S40) is schedualed for a servicing that weekend (the check engine light doesn't turn off). I really, really want to go, but my parents are going to be out of town at my brothers college- I choose to stay home so I can go to this rally, but now I have no ride :(. Hopefully I can find a ride, I live in White Plains, Westchester. Maybe Tim can give me a ride. Have a good one.

If you bring the wife don't bring the girlfriend, and vice-versa. We've had too many dishes broken here this summer.

Pindar winery is having their Harvest Festival that weekend, and is happy to have us. $10.00 cover includes wine tasting and tour, and we can bring our own food, or food is available there.

I can probably find another winery not having a festival that weekend if you don't want to be surrounded by 500 other attendees who may overdo the wine-tasting bit and back into one of our cars.

A good ride that will also avoid Harvest Festival traffic would be Westhampton to Sag Harbor, car ferry to Shelter Island (5 minute ferry ride), ride thru Shelter Island (beautiful place), ferry to North Fork (another 5 minutes), and then down the North Fork to the winery.

A great place to take your car for a good run is on Ocean Parkway down by the beaches. We could meet at the old Oak Beach Inn on Sunday mornings.
Or go to Captree. I notice alot of cars get together on Sundays out there, Corvettes, Porches, bikes. It's a great road to open up your car, especially off season.

There are a bunch of wineries on the North Fork. I drove over this weekend to scout out a likely place, but traffic on Saturday was heavy due to a fair. It lightens up a lot after Labor Day.

Pindar Winery is particularly beautiful. I will find out more information over the next week when I'm out there.

Looks like about 15 cars so far. Let's get a few more!!

Let's do lunch at a North Fork Winery. The drive to North Fork should be fun.
Steven J. Solomon (Solly)
Posted on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 4:32 pm:

Ok. Looks like Sunday, October 14, with rain date for Sunday October 21. Everyone welcome.

Time: Noon

Location: Steve's home. 552 Dune Road, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978.

Directions (avoid Yahoo Maps; they take the long way):

LIE to exit 70 (Manorville). Right at stop sign (by gas station), continue to end of road (4-5 miles). Bear left onto Rte. 27 (Sunrise Highway). Get off first exit (Exit 63/Westhampton Beach-exit bears right). Continue on this road (pass Gabreski Airport on left)until it brings you to a bridge (you will see signs on the way for "Beaches"). Cross bridge and make right onto Dune Road. We are a few miles down, on the right (bay) side.

Alternate routes: Southern State to Sunrise then follow directions above, or Northern State to Sagtikos Parkway to Southern State and follow directions above.

From NYC, no traffic: 1.5 hours
From NYC, traffic: Feels like days.

Options:

1) Drive to Southhampton for lunch
2) Drive to a North Fork winery for lunch
3) Make a TSD mini-rally out of it for the afternoon, and meet up for an early dinner at the finish.

Keep checking this thread for developments. Please post your own suggestions.

Ok, looks like the Hamptons wins out, and we can see Nick's collection later. October is beautiful and uncrowded, and works best because I'll be gone a lot in September on business.

We can meet at my house in Westhampton. I will publish the address as we get closer and I get a good handle on how many cars to expect. I can accomodate approx 20-25 cars, and there is no street parking. If we get more than that we can meet up in town-plenty of parking.

Any enthusiast is welcome, in whatever ride you need to get there, but it will be great if we can have a preponderance of Ferraris. We can do a drive to Southhampton along the beach for lunch, or go up to the North Fork-same distance.

To SML- there is safe, heated (40 F)storage in Poughkeepsie, it's where I will be wintering two of my cars. I'll get you the details as soon as I know them.

Any interested parties start posting by mid-Sept., along with type of car, so I get a good idea of the count. This should be FUN!!!

Too many problems with storage in NYC. Since the trip to Cape Cod is >250 miles, I'm currently looking for a trailer to transport...any ideas, or is there a "storage garage" in CT or upstate NY?

Cheers.

That's the guy. He's got 250s, 275s, Daytonas (including A NART car), a 166, a couple of 330s and 365s, a few Dinos and some other really exotic stuff (like a GT40, Nash-Healy, a few race cars etc.).

I stop off there at least once a week on my way home from work just to dream about the next Ferrari. Definitely a great place to kick off a rally.

Anyone know how to set up a TSD rally? Or maybe one of those rallies where you have to stop at different places and bring things back to show you were there. I've never done this stuff before. I'll be happy to do most of the legwork and print maps, etc. We could even end up at a local restaurant for early dinner; there are some great places in the area.

Have a good one,

Ok guys, I'm trying to think of a place convenient to everyone yet with some open stretches of road. I drive both the Long Island and Westchester areas, and Northern Westchester is far superior in terms of fairly empty roads and scenery. While I originally thought of the North Fork in the fall, the drive out there on the LIE or Northern/Southern State can be a nightmare on a weekend.

So I'm thinking maybe last weekend in September or first/second weekend in October, in Northern Westchester.

I'm going to contact a friend, Nick Soprano (who I bought my car from) and see if he will let us meet up at his shop in White Plains and look at his beautiful Ferrari collection, and then maybe a run up 22 to 684 to North Salem which is deserted weekends.

Let me know what you guys think.

Anyone interested in meeting on a periodic basis (monthly, quarterly etc.) for a mini-rally (or coffe & donuts) in the NY/NJ/Conn area? Seems like the West Coast guys do this fairly often.

Westchester County (where I live)is 15 mins. from Jersey, borders Conn. and has some beautiful deserted country roads, but we could do this anywhere.

If there is any interest in some track time I will check with Lime Rock to see if we can rent their track as a club. Too bad the Bridge closed, a lot of my buddies got a lot of club-based "drivers ed" track time there.
