Additionally, it isn't the actual integrity of the wheel, but rather the proper sealing of the flanges between the rim sections that is important. A slow leak (typical of modulars) is difficult to find because air isn't bubbling out but rather seeping very slowly. |

Nah, when purchasing my 550, one of the first things the guys in service told me was "keep an eye on tire pressures, the modulars tend to leak.' Mine didn't (knocking on wooden desk), but lots of peoples' do. If the dealer is giving you a brand new one under warranty, well, why not! If they're charging you, you should instead insist that they fix the wheel, e.g., take apart, re-seal all flanges, and re-torque all bolts. |

I'm sure there is a simple way to test the integrity of the wheel. Another problem that comes to mind is that there might be a batch of that particular tire with a faulty bead. |

What do you guys think is going on. I have a 2001 550 with modular wheels and a few months ago i noticed that the right rear tire kept losing pressure..it would practically go flat, PSI about 9. So i took it to our local dealer...they promptly ordered new modular wheel for me but when the shop was changing the tire they said they found a screw in the tire and that was the cause of the leak...So, I bought a new tire...expensive as you know...and now a couple of months later the tire is flat again. I'm bringing it in to have the dealer look at it.. but don't you think I ought to just replace the wheel now? |
