Actually the storage space it was in was a vacant one. It did not have a lock on it or anything. Someone was going to rent it and that is how they found the car. The investigators think that it might be an inside job, and also think it is a solvable case, so they will continue to investigate. |

WOW!! Great they got it back.....definately sounds like an inside job....not to hard to trace either....Whoever rented the storage shed that it was in, had to pay for the space....i.e. check, credit card...show some credentials, any security cameras.....good luck, I hope they get whoever is responsible |

A note to all that expressed concern. We recovered the car last night. It had a very small amount of damage from a floor jack that was used to eventually move the car. It was also covered with wax, very sloppily I might add. The Police said it was probably used to cover fingerprints, but another source thought it may have been used to protect the paint from salt water, if they were going to ship it overseas. Amazingly it was only a few feet from the original storage unit, the thieves jacked it up and drug it out of the first storage unit into the unit directly across. |

Sometimes the dealer gets car that he does not know are stolen. Imagne an old gentleman driving in your lot handing over the title to the car for cash. You would never suspect that! |

The owner just called me and they have ruled out that car as being his. Thank you for keeping your eyes open. I have looked at almost every sales source I can think of and this was the only red/black 328 I found also. I would suspect that the car will not come up for sale for a week or so, but I could be wrong. Anyhow it seems red/black is rather rare compared to red/tan and that might help in finding his car. |

I just bought my 1991 Testarossa from Autosport, and had them sell my '82 308i. I doubt that they practice in the selling of stolen cars. I just don't get that shady feeling when dealing with them. When some oficial results come in on this, can someone please post? Thanks All!! Hutch |

William-- wire the pager independantly from your "standard" alarm system ( which probably includes a motion sensor). That way, the only thing that sets off the pager system is an unauthorized entry into the vehicle; not trucks, motorcycles, et. al. rumbling by your car. Jake |

I have a pager system on my car as well, it's becoming more of a pain in the arse due to too my false alarms. Harleys & mega-base stereo systems are constantly setting it off. Doody, I agree with you, if they want car bad enough, it will be towed on a flat bed. It has happened to a parts supplier I know in Houston. He even lived in a gated community with a guard shack. As for the LOJACK system, if the car is in a metal building or a underground parking garage, the signal will be blocked. The whole idea about the LOJACK is calling it in as soon as it happens.

The car was in a mini-storage facility. The owner did have insurance, but would of course like to find the people responsible. The car was disabled (ground disconnected at the frame) had a steering lock and was strapped to the storage facility with trailer straps. The thieves first looked through a hole in the lop of the storage unit and then cut the lock. they disabled the security cameras and drug the car out of the unit. from the look of the marks on the floor they did not know how to release the emergency brake and they broke the straps pulling the car out. For some reason the storage unit alarm did not sound and the police do think it was an inside job. |

I've always installed a PageAlert system on my current automobiles. It's a pager that alerts ME directly as soon as anyone disturbs the car ( the perp is unaware that he has been detected); that way, the owner of the car can take immediate action. i.e. - call the police or if you are large, you can stomp the MF. I've caught two slimeballs over the last 12 years--both went to the pokey !! |

you don't cancel ALL your insurance, just stuff that would cover you doing damage while driving it. i'll wager that 85% of stolen ferraris are not recovered :-( i had lojack on a car once. relatively pointless tool IMO. in order for the police to activate the tracker you have to show up at a police station with proof of ownership of the vehicle. it's not like you just call up and say "hey - my car was stolen! find it!". not worth the money, imo. and unfortunately kill switches and the like aren't that useful --- my understanding ist hat most nice cars get stolen with flatbeds, alarms blaring. very sad. doody. |

Since there is a major service due at 55k I would say you get a call in a few days and they tell you where the car is. At least nce they found out how much the service is sorry to hear that though! |

Sorry to hear, I know whats it like to have a car stolen. I hope justice is served. If it was stolen from a storage facility, a good chance it was a inside job. Maybe someone was tipped off about the car. The thieves knew were the car was kept, how long it was there, what time was good to get in & out, etc... After I recovered my project car, I have gone overboard with the alarm system, fuel cut off switches, ECU kill switch, etc.. If anything, I hope the 328 had a LOJACK system. Good Luck.

Having had a vehicle of mine stolen recently luckily just a service truck, I have done a little research 85% of all vehilcles stolen are recovered within a few weeks, typically its just a joyrider or drug addict whom has no intention of keeping the vehicle, they just want some transportation prosecutions are very few unless they actually catch them at the time of theft otherwise its simply posession of stolen property, here in Vegas their are over 2000 vehicles a month stolen alone The sad part is you really dont want your vehicle back after its been stolen, with some low life scum bag driving around messing up your car
