The brakes are an excellent place to look to improve performance of a 308. The brakes are differently a weak link in the performance package of the car. And will not survive more then a few (2-3) laps at a track pace before over heating and needing to be cooled off. I'll be making this improvement myself, but the truly larger brakes can require larger wheels.

Someone posted here recently and found them much cheaper if I remeber correctly. Look in the archives, it was not more than a few months ago.

Dr. T,

Alas, never had pure stock brakes, though the Kevlar composite EBC Green Stuff came with my 308 and i am truly impressed. Very linear and predictable and not much worries about overheating them with "normal" Ferrari use on the streets.

Enjoy the Drive,

What Ben is saying makes sense. I agree that they can't help but be "better". It's ok to go for wants instead of needs sometimes. Isn't that what a Ferrari is all about anyway?

Even light cars can benefit from better braking, especially with slicks/wider-than-stock rubber.

Generally, you will gain better control, rather than absolute clamping force, the better to ride the incep of lockup for max braking.

Best!
Ben.

I've never really had a big problem with my brakes so far but I just can't shake the urge to go with the Brembos. I have the Porterfields also and I felt like they, alone, made a big difference. I agree with you but, man, I would love those things on my car.

Tommy, are you sure you need the brake kit with a stock engine in your car? Have you had problems with braking or brake fade at the track? I think that's really overkill. Put on carbon kevlar pads (I use Porterfield R4-S) with fresh brake fluid and you'll be set. If you think you still have a problem with overheating or want to go one step further, you can go with drilled rotors (like I did). But unless you've already supercharged or turbo'd that QV engine, you really don't have any need for the big brakes, and I speak from experience. You can be likely going 80-100 mph and slam on your stock brakes and lock the wheels up.

Of course if you're interested in doing it more for looks than for function/need, that's a different matter...

I think I'm ready for the brake upgrade for my 308QV. The kit runs about $2500 +/- . I think I know about 3 vendors that carry them. Does anyone know of the best deal I can get? Any discounts for FChat members? Thanks, guys.
