If you have a gass leak fix it. The alternative is ugly! Check the lines from the pump to the filter and out of the filter. Thats a great leak point |

Um... now this might sound like a stupid question, but do you think there is any danger in having this leak? The mechanics told me no because there isn't anything electrical in that area. But still...... |

I also had a gasoline smell coming from the engine of my 328. It turned out to be the drain plug on the crossover pipe connecting the two fuel tanks. Someone (in the past) had tried to weld the aluminum; I just had the entire pipe replaced. |

"I love the smell of gasoline in the morning...You know that high performance racing smell? One time, we were at the track all day. The next morning we were home with our cars in the garage. They were not running. Not one body. But that smell...It smelled like...victory. Some day this race is going to end." Variation from Col. Kilgore, Army Air Cavalry - Apocalypse Now. Seriously, a common gas smell is a leak in the fitting just in front of your fuel pump. I just had mine fixed. If you look under, you may be able to see where the gas is wetting and stripping the cars undercoating. |

Norman -- Will let you know once info is received from the agent. Yes, the SARS virus (HK Special Administrative Regions-S -- What a joke to us!) is spreading in the public and I have to ask my brother-in-law to get the 3M N95 mask from Canada to me as it is out of stock over here. I did start a thread about the pneumonia in the Off-topic. You guys have to be careful as well cause 9 persons were confirmed being infected on the plane from Bejing to HK on the 12th! |

Thanks, Ming. Could you find out the part name please? BTW, are you worried about the SARS epidemic? I just Fed Ex'd a box of tuberculosis-resistant face masks to my brother in HK. He's a little worried. A buddy of mine just lost a friend to the epidemic there. Frightening. |

Hi Norman, Sorry to hear you have the same problem. The smell problem was fixed by the agent but I did not get the exact name of the part(s) they replaced as they mentioned in Chinese. I could check with the chief mechanic and get back to you on this. JRV might be able to give you some input!

Ming Cheng, Did you ever find out where the gasoline smell was coming from? I had the same issue a few weeks ago when for some odd reason the gas tank overfilled and overflowed. I could smell it on the inside right side of the trunk. The smell is gone now. The dealer attributes it to possible poor sealing of the overflow area allowing excess gasoline to flow where it normally would not. Hmmmm. Thoughts anybody? |
