"DES...James DES."
HAHA, I could just imagine it. EFWUN, that line had me cracking up.
DES, congrats bud. I'm sure it was an awsome time...and in a Maranello none the less, wow. Glad it was a good experience.

Another congrats DES! I know the feeling exactly. The guys from the Southern California section were gracious enough to take me along to the FCA Ortega Run a while ago and I will NEVER forget that day. It was on a Sunday and I had a major test the next day...Needless to say I didnt do as well as I could have! After that day though, Ive only gotten the bug worse than before and I wont stop until I get my own Ferrari one day.

Des!! Congratulations!!!

I had my first ride when I was 17. Went to Ferrari of Houston, as I did often, to drool. There was a Silver 512TR parked along the side of the shop. I asked Tony what it would take to get a ride. He just looked at me for a minute and said, "Nothing, I was about to put it up anyway." He showed me how to open the door, and off we went. What a ride!!!! We were about to exit the driveway onto the feeder road. We waited for a few cars to pass. Then out we went. He got the car pointed in the right direction and let it rip. My life changed in the very short moments that would pass in a flash. We not only cought up to the cars that had passed us, we flew past them and left them behind like they were sitting still. He readlined 1st and 2nd before we took a u-turn at what seemed like 100MPH. Then he showed me the new vented breaks they had just installed. What an impression. That little 3 minute trip turned my blood red. :-) I know exactly how you feel DES.

DES,

I could not be any happier for you! That is great that EFWUN gave you a ride! All I can say is wait until you get to drive one, you might want to get on an aspirin regimen before hand if you do. I had an opportunity to drive a white/camel F355 6 speed last September for about an hour and it was truly amazing, words cannot describe what and how you feel in an F-car. Each individual here feels something similar and different, it is all about the passion inside of you (and you have it big time!).

Congratulations!
Foza Ferrari

A little off topic, I had my first experience seeing an F-40 at FOD. I went to peek through the window there in Service last night and it was parked right by the door. The car is absolutely amazing in person-it's one of my all time favorites-Does any one here own it? Ride?

congrats DES... a day to remember eh?
kinda like the seeing the first man on the moon... the first shuttle launch... the Berlin Wall coming down...

cant quite put into words how a bunch of cylinders, wires and different metals can add up into sooooo much more than the sum of its parts...

la passione indeed...

congrats again...

Grant

PS. sounds like your quite a stand-up guy... & you more than deserve - oop - DEServe that Enzo ride as per that previous thread... Enjoy it. (Not that i need to TELL you to... (: )

DES has me beat, I've never had a ride in a 12cyl Ferrari. I'd only been in one other car when I bought mine, and mine was the first one I drove. I've now been for a ride in 4 Ferraris, but no 12's. A 308, 328, 348, and 355F1.

DES is a kind of special case, his enthusiasm and honesty made it fun to offer him a chance to take a cruise. Here's this dude trying to investigate Ferraris through the internet, why not let him get his feet wet the right way??

Efwun that was very nice of you to do. Seeing a Maranello is surely exciting, but maannn, riding it must be the real of the meaning of the word "fun."

I lived in Port Jefferson, NY 6 years ago. So, what top speed did you achieve at the L.I. Expressway...has traffic there gotten better? ;)

Geez DES, I don't know what you do for a living now but with the way you write you could moonlight writting steamy Ferrari novels. Very descriptive, great visuals,......HAHAHAHAHA. A woman could even be in one of the stories though it would be off topic it would still add to the Ferrari mistique.
Seriously though, my first ride wasn't a ride at all. My Ferrari friend wanted to take videos of the Ferrari club making laps around the track where I live so he asked me to drive his 308 around the track while he shot video from the passengers seat.
A. I had never even been in a Ferrari
b. I had never driven this track
c. It is something I will never forget.
I bought my GTS within 6 months of the drive.
More power to you DES. Your enthusiasm and love of the car is appreciated by everyone and will will hopefully get you places in Ferrariland.

We did 3 and 1/2 gears on a limited access highway nearby, and I treated him to the Maranello trademark, instant wheelspin when romping on the throttle in 1st or 2nd. ( a few kids in a Mercedes cheering at him!) I think about 135mph, but mostly just drove nicely. A little heel/toe, nothing too ridiculous. He'll probably post something later, (this is, after all, DES!!)

i'm really trying to get some work done before i post my feelings on how today was... But i can't... i can't even think about trying to focus, it's ridiculous... i just need some time... i need to relax... Today was very intense... You have to understand, i've never had a ride in a Ferrari before... My stomach hurts, i have a headache- today was the most incredible day of my life... With 23 years of anticipation, if the sheer emotion doesn't bring me to tears before the day is out, then nothing ever will... EFWUN, i can't thank you enough... i just need a little more time to relax and collect my thoughts before i post... Thank the car gods that Fridays aren't usually busy, or i'd probably have a nervous break down... i'm the only one in the office today and i've been sitting here for over an hour, staring blankly at paper work that needs to get done... i can't function... My knees hurt from being weak... there's this faint tremble that ripples through me like a whisper everytime i gather up enough energy to recall two hours ago... EFWUN, will the lump in my throat ever go away...? Is that my heart...? Will it slowly ease back down into my chest...? i need to relax... i'll post later... Right now, though, i'm still processing a very intense afternoon... , if my heart doesn't stop beating so fast, it just might jump clear out of my chest...

Ahhh... I think this is only a prelude of things to come for DES... with New Orleans around the way, he has even more rides to look forward to... in an ENZO!!

A very nice gesture indeed, EFWUN... and nice to know that he was so polite and appreciative. Were there any numbers exchanged between him and the young lady? ;)

DES - when you come out to So Cal, better keep your pen and paper ready. hahaah...lol

Nope, no cigarettes, no mess left on seat, he even got to answer a few of those "gawker" questions, including a rather attractive young lady about his own age, who asked "Wow, what kinda car is that??" DES calmly said, "A Ferrari . . . ." Fun.

Did you have to clean your seats when he got out. Congratulations DES!!! I figured nothing but good comments would be said about you. Now lets hear your side of the story. (I'm sure he'll be here shortly). Nice thing to do EFWUN.

A brilliant mid-day sun reflected from the casino porte-cochere. The door of a small, glittery-white sports car (well, okay, a Saturn) opened, the music swelled, a light breeze tousled his hair (well, okay, he has a buzz-cut), and a tuxedo-clad young man stepped forward and said "My name is DES, James DES." (Well, okay, he only said his name was Dan) Conversation in the neighboring sidewalk cafe abruptly ceased, the tinkle of cutlery dropping on plates was the only audible sound.
Well, okay, it didn't really happen this way, but I met DES today for the purpose of giving him his inaugural Ferrari ride. I must state for the record that DES is well-dressed, articulate and exceedingly polite. He really seemed to enjoy his ride, and even embarrassed me by giving me a gift bottle of wine for my wife. All-in-all, an impressive young man, and a GENTLEMAN. I hope his posts continue to meet with politeness from all.
I also met Billy Z, saw his collection, and heard his fabulous 355!! YOWZA!! A great Spring day to drive a Ferrari!!!
