Arlie,

Just because its "restored" doesn't mean its any less of an F40 then when it left the factory floor, in my opinion. What will you say in 25 or 50 years.. "Thats a beautiful F40" or, "Gah, its been repainted and rebuilt, its one of those replicas!"

I don't think anyone mentioned the word original until your post.

Drive it, love it, and repair it like these two people did. That gets a big thumbs up from me.

You don't own a car like this because your going for Concours Preservation class points.

For my first love (marque), there's a special class for original unmolested cars and then everything else falls into the normal categories. To each their own.

That Dutch F40 must have been a real labor of love, HOWEVER, in the end, it's like that P-38 fighter plane recovered from under the ice in Greenland and later "restored". If "restored" means that 90 percent of the plane/car was reproduced in order to have something to hang the original serial number tag upon, then yes, it is "restored". It was said even better by somebody else on another posting: If I build a piece of furniture out of 200 year old wood, will that make it an "original" piece of antique furniture"?

I'd like to see the rebuilt one. Looks like an impossible task from these shots.

yes,
both of them have been retored. You have to have faith and $$$ to see the end result. In Roland's case it took some 2 years in the other case it took 3 or 4 if i remember correctly.

MLEMUS are you saying the top picture car has been restored?

just begs the question how bad would one of these cars have to be for everyone to walk away from restoring it?

I'd take on a wreck like those, er, have to another a lot longer and better look at the top one as it looks to far gone ... but you never know, and it should be CHEAP :-)

That would be my only chance of ever getting an F40 and it is just a space framed chassis plastic car after all ... so can be fixed. The bottom one looks like the engine and important stuff survived so a good restoration project ... and what an end result, awesome!!!

What did that instructor tell me? Was it "lift when it starts to slide or don't lift when it starts to slide?" Or slide it when it starts to lift.... or... awe hell, let me hit the brakes"

I believe the bottom one is the F40 that the guy from http://www.ferrarif40.de/ totally took apart and rebuilt.... yes, I'm 99% positive its this car. Best project ever.

ps: Im not sure if he took al the photos of the restauration down from his site and is selling the story on cd now, but if he is.... its a shame. Was great to see the whole process online.

Anyway, good to see that atleast one of these two beauties has been reborn again.
