I heard the 456 successor will have the F1 shifting option. Personally, I'd get the 456M in 6-speed. Waiting for the price to come down further.

i test drove one on monday. it is an odd sensation. if you compare it to my 512tr, it really seems pedestrian. you don't get the same feeling of involvement in the whole 'driving a ferrari' experience. it actually felt a lot like driving my mother's sl600, but better. they have dialled all the agression out of it, and with the windows closed you don't even hear the engine ! lots of power but its all smoothed out and luxuriated. i tried starting out in 2nd and notching it up thru the box as i accelerated, like a tiptronic, and that felt a little better and got better performance results. that being said, i was doing about 200kms/hr before i realised how fast i was going, and it was very silky smoothe. so i guess the net result is that if you are looking to buy a ferrari for the f car experience this is not it. this is a classy, less ubiquitous mercedes sl.
if you want to know more about the back seat, i actually was favorably impressed with that. i had expected far worse, but they have done a great job hollowing out a big enough space for an adult up to about 5'8". obviously this is for short hauls; also because the driver has to make room for the passenger's legs and you end up hugging the steering wheel. but anyway, better than the aston martin and jaguar.
