where do you live? Those prices are about $30K below what I am used to seeing here in the US.

this dealer was in rome italy, so prices are lower. plus he can't give away the automatic in that macho culture. the standard was like a very softened version of the regular f box. very easy to drive. but again, all the sound deadening material kept you slightly removed from the action. it is a gt, comfortable to cruise all day at high speeds with 2 people and some luggage. i would not take it to the track and expect much. it would b better than the db 7 or the xk8 for sure, but these cars are built for a different purpose.

Ross,

The prices seem fire sale for a car of that mileage compared to what I have seen in the Northeast. Have the belts been changed yet? I just had a quote for a 30K service at $7900.

Was driving the 6 speed any more Ferrari-like?

Can't help with lowering info. I did not think the adjustable suspension touched ride height.

price range was from about lower $60k's to the 99 gtm w/ low mileage at $110k. think he is reaching w/ the gtm. but also would not want the early gt's. heard too many of the bad experiences with the windows and suspension. plus mileages was a bit high on those - 40,000 to 60,000.
for driving experience see my comments in the other thread - somebody looking to buy one as well.

yes i agree on prices. i try to temper my appetite for these cars until i think the prices have come off considerably. i have bought from this dealer before so he did not really fool around too much and came to just about his last number right away, and it equates to about $72k, for a december delivery 1996 with a lot of the mods found in the gtm, dark blue/tan, 14,400 miles 456 gta. he has a couple of 94 and 95 cars as well, and think he will come down to around $65k on those already. on the other hand, i don't think that the good ones will lose that much value from this point on. (you have to be slightly careful with this model since it gets a higher mileage average than the more exotic ones). they only made 1936 of this run and only 402 automatics worldwide, so the numbers are with me at least.
as for the lowering, the one that was done already still seemed to have a higher chin than my 512tr, which would indicate that it should suffice for most speed bumps etc. (i know i will probably regret lowering it but it does wonders for the look). but wanted to know if anybody knew exactly what was entailed in doing it?

Ross,

What was the price range of the four you looked at and what did you think of driving the GTA?

still a great car for the $$$
They will suffer more. I predict you can get a 456 for $60K in a year.

Ross--I assume you know this as well, but 456 prices are really in the toilet. At my local dealer new ones have been offered at under dealer cost, with even recently used ones taking an even bigger hit.

Ross,
if your wife drives the car as well I would not touch the suspension. Especially going shiopping into and out of parking lots. You will regret that very soon!

The color combo sounds fantastic!

just back from the dealer who showed me 4 different used 456's he had. one of them is absolutely breathtaking - anthracite grey, w/ crema interior - not a common color combo but it works. and it was lowered, which really takes the 'big butt' look out of the rear end. the one i want (the only automatic, don't ask, the wife insists on it for ferrari number 2 so she can drive around town), is not lowered, and the rear wheel arch is about 9-10 cms from the top of the tire. as opposed to the lowered one, at about 3-4 cms. the dealer says he can lower mine as well, and its a simple adjustment of the suspension. frankly i thought it would be much more involved, or mean changing to some kind of 'sport' suspension. does anybody know any more about this?
